The Perfect Find (2023)
A mess
I really enjoy Tia Williams as an author, but this film was a terrible expression of her talents.
The leads didn't have chemistry and there were many underdeveloped themes. My biggest disappointment with this movie is that the editing was awful. I rewound the movie about 10 minutes in because I thought I missed the opening scene where they actually provide context to the the main story line. The movie is disjointed. It's 30 or so random scenes that don't flow together rather than a movie.
Beautiful actors, great wardrobe, and a good soundtrack don't overcome the glaring faults with this film.
Harlem (2021)
Unfulfilled Potential
I really wanted to like this show, but I didn't. There is potential, but it doesn't feel genuine. In the battle for the Harlem-based knock off version of Insecure, I prefer Run the World on Starz.
Save Yourself (2018)
Solid indie romance
This film is not a traditional romance, but it definitely fills a special niche within the genre. If you enjoy witty banter and simple yet effective character development within a realistic plot, you'll enjoy this film.
I'd like to see what Allen Gardner can do with a bigger budget.
A Brother's Honor (2019)
If you like Brenda Jackson novels, you'll love this movie!
Truthfully, I had low expectations for this movie; but it was good! It may not receive the notoriety of the 50 Shades franchise, but Brenda books and now movies are equally as entertaining. I hope they make some of the Westmoreland books into movies next!
The Ballad of Buster Scruggs (2018)
Dark, funny, and interesting
The first vignette in this film was hilarious; the timing was spot and the musicality really offset the death and gore. I thought the rest of the film would follow suit, but that wasn't the case.
The film got very dark, very quickly. When watching this film you'll notice a theme emerge very quickly.
One would hope the film would have picked up the pace and utilized some of the same comedic relief during that final segment that was used during the first. This could have easily been done with the James Franco bank segment wrapping up the film! Had it come full circle, I feel that the ending would have been more satisfying.
Bareilly Ki Barfi (2017)
Great Bollywood Rom Com
This was a sweet film with a fun twist! There was great chemistry amongst the actors and the story line was very entertaining. I genuinely enjoyed this movie!
A December Bride (2016)
Almost... but not quite there.
I am a sucker for the Hallmark formula, but this film was lacking in emotion. Unfortunately, the decorations had more soul than the leading lady.
Though this film could have been better; it really wasn't that bad.
