Better than Ambien...a lullaby for adults!
4 January 2017
If watched in the afternoon or early evening this is a fun hour of entertaining TV.

But here is a little secret, if you have trouble sleeping, try watching this late at night in bed. It is miraculous, it sends both myself and my wife to sleep, 100% guaranteed. It isn't because it is a bad show, or boring, or not entertaining, but something about the pace of this show when watched in bed is guaranteed to put you to sleep. It is an adult lullaby! We have watched this entire series 3 times now, neither of us have seen all episodes yet, we keep going to sleep during them! If we have trouble sleeping, we put it on, 10-15 minutes later we are fast asleep.

I usually rate shows based upon quality, and there is nothing wrong with the quality of this show, on pure quality it gets 7/10. But as a sleep aid it is exceptional, better than any available drug and without any side affects.

This is a show you should store on a DVR and to be used for both entertainment and as a sleep aid.

The Missing (2014–2016)

It starts at half pace, slows down and ends up in reverse.

The acting is decent, for which this series gets the one star awarded.

The story telling starts out slow, but bearable, then it gets slower and slower, until it becomes stationary and the viewer decides that because of the four to five hours already invested they just have to push though the pain barrier to find out what happens in the end! I'm a viewer who has been there, suffered the pain and by the end of episode 8 wished he had just amputated his legs at episode two to get away from this dreadful piece of story telling.

Best thing to do with this drama is stay away from it, don't let it suck you in via episode one, you will hate that you wasted 8 hours of your life by the end of this total garbage story telling.

I'm not going anywhere near season 2 of this junk out of fear I will fall into the same trap again.

Father Brown (2013– )

Very enjoyable way to pass 45 minutes
4 January 2017
Set in the 1950's picturesque fictional Cotswold village of Kembleford this series encompasses the gardens of "Rosemary & Thyme", the quaint village settings of "Grantchester", the clue dropping slower pace of "Death in Paradise", and the ridiculously high murder rate of "Midsomer Murders".

Most of the stories have some type of ethical "Larkrise to Candleford" element associated with them, others touch on "George Gently" type events of the era, and a couple throw in some "Lovejoy" type fun, and the typical manner houses and stately homes all British people apparently reside in :) If you liked any of those "shows", this will be worth your time.

This is not a procedural drama where realism or accuracy is important.

The not so young busy-body Catholic Priest uses his charm, and sometimes his faith, to sleuth his way to solving murders whilst the totally incompetent police arrest the red herrings to help out those viewers that are having difficulty following the clues.

You don't need to watch this show with intense concentration, in fact if you drop off to sleep for a few minutes it won't much matter. It is 45 minutes of fun, entertaining television that leaves you thinking you would liked to have lived in that slower paced, higher quality of life era.

Law & Order: Jeopardy (1995)
Season 6, Episode 4

Interesting story, and a few minutes of superb drama
4 January 2017
Fans of Adam Schiff (Steven Hill) will appreciate this episode. He gets to shine in 2 relatively short scenes, but they are two of my favorite scenes out of the entire 20 years of this superb show.

Whilst in the police interrogation room, Schiff gets to crack open, and close, the prosecution with his powerful, confident, yet typically laid back approach to being D.A.

At the end of the episode we learn the repercussions of his successful interrogation, and again feel the sadness associated with the results from doing the right thing.

Overall this is an above average episode of L&O, but Hill knocks it out of the park to make it a great one.

Exceptionally Entertaining

This is a show about a group of crooks who the viewer chooses to like because they out-smart the crooks we all love to hate, which includes the banksters, the elitists, and some members of the police and secret service that have forgotten who they are supposed to serve.

In a large number of episodes two sets of people are getting conned. One is explained to the viewer as "The Mark", the one that isn't explained to the viewer, until the end, is you! The stories are well written so that the viewer can't see exactly what is happening until the last few minutes when all is revealed and you often end up thinking "damn, I should have seen that coming". After watching a few episodes you will know the con is on the viewer as well, but it is still a challenge to work out what is really happening.

If you enjoy a puzzling type of show you will love Hustle.

Should have been a 2 hour movie
26 December 2016
The theme of the story is interesting and well acted. Episode 1 draws you into the concept and characters and leaves you wanting more.

Unfortunately episodes 2-7 are slow moving with drawn out padding that has little to offer other than we get to see the two main characters fall in love. We didn't need 6 hours of that! Episode 8, if anything is a little rushed, but still a superb hour of television. It leaves you feeling good about having watched the show, and makes you temporarily forget how boring it was in the previous 6 episodes.

Like many recent TV mini-series it would have been much better made as a two hour movie. Take 20 minutes out of episode one, condense the following 6 episodes into 20 minutes, and then the last hour for the final episode. For those that have read the book, include a decent explanation of those guys with colored cards in their hats, which is pretty important to the story and skimmed over in the TV adaptation.

My recommendation is watch episode one and eight in their entirety, as for episodes 2-7, the 2 minute catch-ups that appear before the opening credits should be enough.

A show to make you think!
28 November 2016
Black Mirror is not a show for the weak of heart, those fragile in our society, those easily disturbed.

Black Mirror is for those of us who can take on the darker side of life without suffering a nervous breakdown.

The very first episode of this show is possibly the most disturbing piece of television I have ever watched. For many I would suggest skipping the first episode and re-visiting it later when you have become a little more hardened to this type of show.

Most of the one star reviews of this show are from folks totally repulsed by the first episode. It hits them so hard they couldn't cope!

Every episode of this show sends you a message from the writer. Sometimes that message is not welcomed....but it should always make you think!

The overall concept of the show is that technology is not a positive improvement in our lives.....the writer occasionally admits that it could be, if used properly (season 3, ep 4), but for the most part we are better off without technology, because it will be abused!

This is a show for the thinking person, who has a strong heart! If you don't like to be shocked, don't go anywhere near this show.

If you love to have you brain massaged....this is for you!
