Pieces of Her (2022)
8/10
4th episode in.
23 August 2022
I still can't help but see Brie Larson in that role. I've tried very hard but after watching The United States of Tara annnd I've come up short. Not only in height but, also in believing that this roll could be filled by someone else. Please forgive me for my failures. I'm only typing now because it says I need 150 characters and I assumed it would tell me the same way Twitter does. But I know better, now.

In terms of reality
1 March 2019
This show captures nostalgia in a tighter bottle than any other sitcom like The Goldbergs, That 70's Show, etc. One feature I appreciate most is that the casting ages are seemingly 100% accurate (aside from the main characters, obviously). This alone makes the story feel more relatable than other obvious fictions casted with 30 year olds in HS. And their precise exploration of media at the time is perfect, I guess the only thing they left out was singingfish and Napster.

I think of it as statement
13 September 2018
Warning: Spoilers
This movie should make you think twice about the people you date.

The point she makes about how he knew her the way no one else ever did--from her perspective is terrifyingly accurate. Because, no one could ever know her that well, without his creepy technology (that she never found out about). I think the film got a great message out there. The ending sets you at ridiculous unease... because they're trying to show the damage a controlling person can have, even after the control subject is gone, after it's all over--the difficulties of trust and love later. Because the victim connected with the false love, whether they knew it was fake or not. It's deeply damaging, and I respect this film for that.

Could have used cops, I guess, but I think that would have distracted from the exaggerated point they're making and effectively ruined the plot rather quickly. (I mean, spongebob drinks water under water, so...)

Positive societal influence and good acting are 10/10. Lack of reality brought it down to 7.

Unrealistic
31 August 2018
Warning: Spoilers
A boat doesn't burn up at the slip in a yacht club and not gain police attention. You can't simply not report that. Especially when neighboring boats were damaged as well as the docks the boat was tied to. And it's not the first unrealistic bit in the series. It's premise seems only to be stress inducing. Let alone a 50 foot sailboat with a maybe 60 hp engine towing a boat that size...

It's a road trip
18 August 2018
This turned out like an extended version of a Boy Meets World episode with more content related to my actual life. And it's significantly less corny. But the character development is nothing compared to the original SLC which may have to do a lot to do with it being told in 3rd person. It's also a road trip film and if you read Chuck Klosterman's take on road trip films, this is spot on and the film isn't about the anything other than an interpersonal character growth/reflection. I think the punk aspect is mostly an aesthetic and not very necessary to to the overall story, unfortunately. A lot seemed forced to make this happen, and as a fan of SLC Punk, I appreciate the attempt.
