Urban Justice (2007)
a step up on the ladder, but still a way to go yet...
this film gets a seven, but thats on the segal stage....i would have to say this film is similar in quality to into the sun.good points, all the fights are seagal(and yes on the hard to believe moves i paused and slow mowed and it was seagal) all the voice acting is him,the story is quite good and its good to see seagal back in the us instead of these dodgy third world countries... its is also quite violent lots of neck breaks etc...bad points seagal still seems like he's not having much fun and his voice seems to stay the same tone all the way through even when he's talking about his dead son...and steve stop wearing the goth leather coats its not cool.... overall i did enjoy this movie and might even watch it again....lets hope the next is just as good or better.
Until Death (2007)
van damme takes another step closer to being back on form
well I was a bit dubious watching this after watching the hard corps which was not that great really..... But from the minute this film kicked off I could tell it was going to be a good one....The film is pretty much split into two halves first sees jean claude as a violent, dirty cop think vic mackey off the shield on drugs and your almost there...second half sees him as a reformed character desperate to make amends...I wont go into the story as plot wise it isn't really ground breaking, but what films are these days...
Now I grew up with van damme after randomly watching kickboxer when I was young and I loved the whole van damme package the fights the van damme noises and the fact that he seemed to use the same moves all the time...CLASSIC...
But if that is what your looking for this film will not be it...don't get me wrong the fight scenes are excellent but not martial arts and to be honest martial arts would of looked silly...I would say the fights are more like the style of van dammes character from double impact you know the one who headbutts everyone....
But overall this is a very good movie, acting wise van damme is up there with likes of matt damon etc...Hopefully we will see van damme in a big budget movie soon, although I would say do more bad guys van damme as he really pulls it off brilliantly...
Second in Command (2006)
a great improvement on wake of death!!!!
well i finally got to see this movie yesterday and i have to say it was well worth the watch..... Anyone looking for a martial arts film look elsewhere as this in nothing like his traditional films.....its a full on action film.... GOOD POINTS.....fast paced action film, a good plot good believable acting,a nice end fight with the boss....
BAD POINTS...the camera work will drive you crazy at points...someone obviously decided to try and copy things like black hawk down,24 etc...and failed. the film does look like a expensive film that is until we get to the CGI helecopters at the end which look about as realistic as house made out of jelly....
SUMMARY.... overall this is a good film....although this is a straight to DVD release....don't let that put you off as there have been a lot of films on the cinema recently with big name stars that this film easily outclasses... there arn't a lot of fight scenes but the for realism martial arts would not really have a place in a violent gun battle...but the few scenes there are are very realistic including a nice knife fight at the end. but be warned those looking for films like bloodsport or kickboxer don't look here...but if your looking for a nice fast paced action movie, then this is for you.
Submerged (2005)
oh Steve give it up!!!!
well i thought Steven Segal was getting back on form after the not so bad INTO THE SUN,how wrong i was, this is a terrible film no sorry it would be quite a good film without Segal...it seems as if he's on morphine when doing the few fight scenes, and must have been asleep when the other actors were doing their lines,as most of his dialogue is someone else's....why???? the plot is a bad as well,as for the title, why SUBMERGED when he's only submerged on a sub for about 10 minutes.... now don't get me wrong i am or was a great Segal fan but these b movies have pretty much killed off his box office credibility, but not cause their cheap films cause Nico(above the law) was a cheap film, its because of Segal's performances...he still seems to think he's at the top.perhaps if he was paid by percentage of film profit,he may actually put some effort in......
if you are Segal fan AVOID it will only lessen you wanting to see any more of his films..... you may want to watch it for Vinnie Jones's performance not too bad...
