What's not to like?
1 May 2024
If you saw this movie and didn't care for it, you're watching the wrong type of movie to begin with. What did you expect? It's unapologetically a "good-guy-kicks-a-lot-of-ass" flick, not Shakespeare!

If, however, you love movies like Rambo and John Wick, to name a couple, you will enjoy this. Lots of action with some humor tossed in. Not to mention sexy Jason Statham. Sorry ladies, no shirtless scenes in this one, lol. And as usual, when needed, he cleans up real good.

And there's enough character development to care about the protagonist, and really hate the bad guys. Btw, imo, Josh Hutcherson was pretty good at portraying a bad guy.

Enjoyable action movie. But then, Jason can do no wrong in my book. I love even his low-rated movies.

Btw, contrary to some reviewers comments, the ending was perfect. What kind of ending did you haters want?

Worth a watch.

I really liked this movie. Sam Neil was great as an old curmudgeon. It was nice to see Jullian Dennison pre-Spider Man in only his 3rd movie role. Kid has some acting chops for sure! I find myself wondering how long he can plan the loveable plus-sized sidekick. He could be a great actor one day. Just hope he doesn't get typecast forever.

This movie premise has, of course, been done before. It's about the two forming a relationship in spite of Neil's character being very old school and never expresses any emotions. The kid is great, and never stops trying to get his approval and love.

They are also life lessons and generational differences addressed.

This may not be a 10, but it's definitely worth a watch.

Amazing acting by Sam! Not nominated for an Oscar? RUFKM?
15 September 2023
I've always loved Samuel L. Jackson. He's amazing in so many different types of roles. This show, however, has given me even more respect for his acting chops.

I'd never even heard of this show before, and happened upon it looking for something new to watch on Apple TV+ before my free trial ran out. I gotta say, this may be his best acting performance ever! His mannerisms almost make you forget that he is not really a decrepit old man. He is bad-ass the way Clint Eastwood is in Gran Tarino. Similarly, he befriends a young person, and their relationship grows over the first few episodes. Both find themselves changed for the better because of it.

The actress playing Robyn is also excellent. You start off hating her, then grow to love her. The kid who plays young Ptolemy is also really good, and so adorable!

This series is perfect for a one-day binge. I absolutely loved it. Sam needs to get an Oscar for his amazing performance... Seriously! Update November 2023... Not nominated... His acting was WAY BETTER than Colin Farrell. Sam was robbed!

P. S. While he does use the "F-word", it is not gratuitous, and the count is a fraction of what is normal for Samuel L. Jackson.

A Must See!
13 September 2023
This is the best animal document I have ever seen. I don't really watch animal documentaries any more. As I get older, I find that I cannot take the attacks by predators, and the inevitable scenes of animals dying. Makes me cry like a baby. This one has only one scene that will make you cry. Otherwise, it is pretty tame and uplifting.

It's not only about the elephants. It shows how other animals (birds, reptiles, insect and other mammals) interact and live alongside them in harmony in the harsh environment, and the changes from a paradise to a baron dryland.

There are some hilarious scenes too. The dung beetle scenes are embellished with sound effects. Like when three of them get into a skirmish over a dung ball. Or when they smell some newly "placed" elephant poop, and hundreds of them flock towards it, accompanied by the soundtrack from the helicopter scene in Apocalypse Now, including the music from Ride of the Valkyries. Or Steven, the alway late, always last baby goose. Even frogs and turtles get some humorous on-screen time. Really makes you wonder how they capture all this amazing footage!

This is definitely a show to be shared by the family. I absolutely loved it!

Not my favorite Fast movie.
28 June 2021
I am a HUGE FAN of these movies. While there is no shortage of action, car wrecks, special effects and laughs, this was not my favorite Fast movie. Maybe all the hype had me anticipating that it would be. Can't really put my finger on it, but something was lacking. I loved 7 and 8. F9 was just OK. Just my opinion. I'm not saying it was awful, and those nut-jobs ranting about don't waste your time are wrong. See it. Just don't expect too much.

Be sure to stay for the mid-credit scene with Jason Statham.

Be prepared for non-linear timeline. No spoilers.
21 May 2021
Because of one review I read before I saw this excellent Statham movie, I was ready for the multiple timeline jumps. It prepared me so I was not confused, which you might be if you go in blind. It jumps back and forth between multiple timelines, so if you anticipate this, you'll enjoy and understand this movie much more. I absolutely loved it. Stathom at his best. Saw it in Dolby. So glad I did.

A complete waste of time.
15 May 2021
Nothing is explained. Important parts have people speaking French, but no subtitles. Kept hoping it would get better, but it never did. It's supposed to be a romantic thriller, but is neither. 2 hours of my life I'll never get back. How it got a 69 rating is beyond me. Yes, it's cinematically beautiful, but the story is ridiculous and unbelievable. Seriously, Don't waste your time.

Love love LOVED this movie!

I agree. If you love Stallone and revenge flicks you'll love this one. Lots of blowing up and traps and hand-to-hand stuff too. Of course, I think John Wick movies rock, so ............

Subtitle alert
11 April 2020
Some of this is in French with subtitles which really sucks, as the subtitles are very tiny and flash by too fast. You have to pause and get up close to read them. Much of it is impossible to read, so a lot of the dialogue is missed. Larger, slower subtitles would have made this much more enjoyable to watch.

Great old fashioned suspence flick!
14 November 2019
We care about the characters and what happens to them. The gators are realistic, and not not exaggerated. The heroine is not helpless and kicks butt. The family dog is reminiscent of Lassie, and we are concerned about her the entire time, baking incessantly in the background. It's scary the way Jurassic Park and Jaws are. I saw this in the theater and was on the edge of my the entire time. People cheered out loud! I loved it so much that I watched it again on DVD! If you are a fan of suspense thrillers, this is a must see!
