Bad Match (2017)

Terrible, don't waste your time
11 March 2018
Watched on Netflix, thought it might be interesting but it was a waste of time. Don't waste your time. I'm surprised by the good reviews. The main character is despicable, there is no character background as with all the other characters in this movie. The ending is supposed to be a twist but they the time I got there, I just didn't care.

Ignore critics and watch this movie
10 March 2018
The critics are once again wrong. This is a good yakuza movie although there are better movies but I enjoyed this movie. It is slow going, building up characters. The climax and ending are good. Jared Leto is great in this movie, playing the silent but dangerous American who gets involved with the Yakuza. Leto's character is mysterious, maybe too mysterious. It would have been nice to understand his motivation and background. There is a small caveat to his former life but it is so small that it does not answer any questions except that's Leto's character is brutal. I didn't think this was the white savior type of movie like The Last Samurai. Please watch and support movies like this, movies that take a chance.

Engaging thriller more than horror
26 February 2018
Excellent acting from the leads and a story that doesn't go in a straight line. The main character has dementia and his memory of events can't be relied upon or can it? That's the premise of this movie. Engaging from the first scene with interesting characters. I definitely recommend this is a Netflix movie.

Good psychological thriller and mystery
25 February 2018
I enjoyed this movie better than expected. You never know with Netflix movies if a movie will be good or bad. But this movie is worth watching for the performances and characters. The ending is emotionally gripping. I'll spoil it by saying anything more. It's best going into this movie not knowing anything.

Watch it for Cage and Johnson
18 February 2018
Warning: Spoilers
The only good thing about this movie is Cage and Johnson. The movie is desperately trying to convey sexual assault and the emotional/mental aftermath but it is poorly executed in this movie. Also the "love story" is between the daughter and mother, the daughter who all of a sudden has to be an adult is egregiously missing from this movie. So the viewer is left wondering "what is the love story angle?". I really liked Cage's silent cowboy character. His eyes conveyed much of his emotion on his emotionless face. Its as if he's seen so much human depravity and loss that he has built a bulletproof mental fence around him in order to keep his sanity. You can see in his eyes he's on the brink of insanity. And Johnson was charismatic as an attorney who knows he defends scum and actually tries to get the rapists to do time, kind of reminds me of The Lincoln Lawyer. I would love to watch a movie about Johnson and Cage's characters in another movie. The final scene between Johnson and Cage is an actors master class.

Netflix, why? Don't waste your time
19 January 2018
I've watched some really bad movies on Netflix like No Mercy but The Open House is the worst movie I've watched. At least No Mercy had a beginning middle and end but The Open House has a beginning and middle but no end. It just leads you to nothing and you are left feeling "What the F?!"

The movie starts like out any C movie on Netflix, some tragedy and then the main characters have to make a decision they don't really want to but being financially strapped have to. Then creepy things start to happen and there is violence but then it just abruptly stops there. It makes no sense and is very frustrating. The viewer becomes invested in the characters. The actors actually do the best the can and the acting is not bad. But the characters are one dimensional. We don't ever really get to the know the wife and son.

The movie feels like it was edited with a guillotine. There are scenes put together that don't make sense. For instance the son complains they moved away from his friends and he didn't want to go but there are no scenes prior to that of him feeling this way. We straight up have a conversation between the wife and her sister about moving to the mountain home and then voila they are driving to the mountain home.

Does Netflix think because it is spending loads of money on several movies like Bright that it can just have really bad movies to fill the line up of movies? Don't waste your time.

Don't waste your time

Warning: Spoilers

It's really too bad James Caan's talent was totally wasted in this movie. The main characters are so absolutely annoying. I watched this movie on Netflix, the caption was the kids spying on Caan would get a comeuppance but it never happened. I kept waiting and waiting and wanted to give up on this movie but was waiting for Caan to show these kids up but nothing. The ending was totally dissatisfying. This movie reminded me of the tragedy at Rutgers University where the gay college student killed himself and the kids responsible got a slap on the wrist. Perhaps this was what the writer(s) wanted but it was just very dissatisfying. These kids were murderers and got away with it.

Mercy (IV) (2016)
Bad editing
11 December 2016
Warning: Spoilers
*** Spoilers

This movie appears like it was written as better then what was on screen. Watched this on Netflix. I wonder how much was cut in the editing process because it feels like there is another 30 minutes missing from this move. There are conversations in this move that make no sense and the ending makes absolutely no sense. There are a few hints to the ending but it still makes no sense.

I found this movie interesting to watch and did not hate it as much as The Good Neighbor but again it feels as if this movie is missing 30 minutes that was left on the editing room floor.
