Berlin Express (1948)
maybe it was because i came in at the end
Caught the last half hour on TV, looked at most of the other reviews and didn't see anyone else mentioned the non-intentional humor of poor Paul Lucas being garroted by the Nazi spy. Back up a little, Robert Ryan was about to make out with Merle Oberon, which I can understand, when the audience sees a reflection in the rail car window of the Nazi spy creeping up on Lucas. Don't recall a particular one, but there are a dozen or so comedies that have the same work up. Anyway, Ryan finally glances at poor Paul and saves the day. What a great actor Ryan was. Some might say his range was limited, but watch "God's Little Acre."
Crossroads (1942)
How did I miss this one?
William Powell was a treasure, Claire Treavor, Basil Rathbone and Heddy Lamarr. I remember when I was 12 or so I would watch her movies on our first black and white TV. I ended up marrying a girl who could be her sister. Anyway, this is a movie that works on so many levels, great script, the mystery keeps you guessing until the final 5 minutes. Having had amnesia myself, I can relate to Talbot's frustration. And an added treat, "Ma York" as I had never seen her.
