Mum (2016–2019)
10/10
Funny, moving, beautifully written
6 January 2024
I've just finished watching Mum for the second time. The first being a few years ago and I'm so glad to went back for a second watch. This is such a subtle, gentle sitcom that is beautifully and very cleverly written and wonderfully acted. The characters communicate so much more beyond the dialogue - fantastic cast. Loved it even more the second time round.

As the main character Cathy/Mum is recently widowed the show deals with grief and how different people process grief but it also goes beyond that and puts other human characteristics such as lack of self-esteem under the microscope. It made me cry quite few times over the 3 series but made me laugh so much more. Something for everyone and definitely worth a watch. All series are on BBC iPlayer.

GameFace (2017–2019)

Loved it even more the second time around.

I've just finished watching this from the pilot through to the end of series 2, for a second time. I watched it originally when it first came out and was looking for some light relief recently and remembered Gameface.

I love it so much. So many laugh out loud moments and times where you find yourself giggling along.

It's relatable, heart warming, and most of all hilarious.

I am torn between wanting a 3rd series because it's so good, and I want so much to see what happens next for Marcella, and feeling like adding another series could risk spoiling it. And it's pretty perfect as it is.

I love Roisin's performance, I feel like I know Marcella so well. Damien Molony is perfect as Jon, but every character is so well cast. Even Orlando is the complete professional.
