Where are films this thoughtful?
9 December 2023
I had seen this title show up as suggestions in my streaming services but never watched. Until today. After a trip to Melbourne I was intrigued. This is not an Australia only story. It is well acted and well scripted. There are a couple of bumpy transitions. They don't matter. The story moves ahead well and takes turns and twists. I do believe it resonates more with the queer audience. But the love, pain and kindness are so heartfelt it will resonate with anyone that has been involved in a deep and complicated relationship. Youth films shy away from depth. This movie does not. It is not about relationships, not sex. Tears ran as I watched on my plane. Bravo Qantas for having this gem in their IFE library. Get a tissue and watch. The lead actors connection is genuine. The themes are very serious. And brave to bring to film. Not fluffy and mindless.

Clever writing, wonderful actors, amazing sets and every emotion gets a run. Don't read the story outlines. I was enchanted at TIFF and thrilled this movie has done so well. Ensemble shine together.

Twists and turns

This ensemble cast created a fun film. The plot was simple but the execution perfect. I very well done English parlor mystery. Almost like a fun play. The actors were charming together. Get passed Daniel Craig's faux accent and enjoy the ride.

Get over subtitles and watch a well told story

I saw this movie as part of the PSIFF. There were 2 movie houses packed for this performance. The story is detailed in the preview. I felt that the writing, and the performances made it one of the best films in the festival. At the end of the screening the audience were clearly awestruck. The message about the real reason for believe, not in a religion, but the power of people was uplifting. I know that some might find the story anti-Catholic, but if I met someone that was a committed to being a good person as Daniel I would be at his services.

Let's get this out there!

Had the pleasure of seeing this gem at the PSIFF with many of the cast. It was a joy. Laugh out loud funny, touching and heartfelt without hitting the too sweet button. The cast were super together, great chemistry between all. It was fun to see Lucy Lu in this light hearted role. But the star was Jackie Weaver. The writing was sharp and her delivery flawless. We are going back again to memorize some of the dialog. There are comments that are priceless and wisdom we can all use. There are no car chases, gun battles or other cheap tricks. This movie has heart and a message.

Beautiful story-compelling acting and sadly a story that is too true
23 June 2018
I watched this series as part of the 2018 US PBS Pride series. It was shown in its entirety. The story of forbidden is not unusual for the gay world, but something about this was very genuine in it's writing and portrayal. The plot line moves along quickly as there was such a short time for the writers to tell two complicated and deep stories. The first section seemed to just be getting it's wind when we lept forward several decades to the modern world. We were just learning about the leads, the loves and their lives. The second section brought in many of today's challenges with instant sex, but not much love. Again, there were many question about what happened in between. However, the quality of the production and the talent of the cast made it a gem to watch. And yes there are tears. As many others have said, worth the watch and if we could have the years in the middle please as a 2019 BBC pride production, I am sure that the audience is there.
