Straw Dogs (2011)
superb acting, good plot, better than the book.
Unlike many, I found this movie to be very entertaining. James Marsden (David) and Alexander Skarsgård (Charlie) particularly excel in their roles.
The film's basic plot revolves around a married couple, David and Amy (Kate Bosworth) moving back to her childhood home and community, and hiring her ex-boyfriend Charlie, and his friends, to fix the roof of their barn. But of course, trouble ensues.
There are many different "dark" themes present explored throughout, from the stiff Southern American culture, one's place in nature, violence, desire.Masculinity is a another theme present. This film's dark moments have been known to give many people the chills.
Having the story set in Mississippi, Southern America instead of England I think was a better move and made it more interesting.
You could go and watch the more highly acclaimed Straw Dogs 1971 movie if you wish, but I think this modern remake is perfectly fine on its own.
Suite Française (2014)
Love and War depicted beautifully in 1940's France
I loved everything about Suite Francaise. A feel of Romeo and Juliet, having two lovers being torn part from outside circumstances, although i will not give away the ending. The scenery and visuals were stunning. It reflected the history of the time so well with the vile behavior of the Nazis and the attitudes of the small-town folk. I just loved the whole story of it and it is something different from your other average romantic movie nowadays. Great casting for Suite Francaise, particularly Matthias Schoenaerts as the German soldier Bruno Van Falk. The sub-plot (if of one) of Celine and Benoit was thrilling and astounding, played by Margot Robbie and Sam Riley. I was really following the character's journeys throughout and rooting for them, hoping everything would work out okay for them. despite them being caught up in one of the world's most deadly of wars ever. I commend this movie and recommend it to everyone, especially history buffs, hoping you will enjoy it as much as I truly did.
The Mummy (2017)
Decent enough
The Mummy was pretty good. There were good bits and bad bits. It didn't really stand a chance when competing against Wonder Woman in terms of box office. It is a Tom Cruise movie, he's shown the most out of anyone.I thought he was good at acting in this and it showed. It has a great supporting cast and Sofia Boutella as The Mummy was amazing, glad she was cast as it. Jake Johnson's character in it was funny which added to the enjoyment. You could've taken Russel Crowe's character straight outta there and it wouldn't have made much of a difference. What he was saying just confused me, didn't serve anything to the plot and he was barely shown. It had awesome visuals and was really well made. That scene in the plane was really something to look at,epic. They really shouldn't have shown as much of the fight and action scenes beforehand in the trailers etc. as it gave too much away and had viewers knowing what to expect. While many would say it was a floppy start-off to The Dark Universe, it thought it was a pretty good summer action block good enough for cinema viewing.Having Johnny Depp being a part of the Dark Universe certainly isn't going to help though he's not likable anymore.
Autumn Dreams (2015)
bland and empty
God it was awful!!! I watched this because I was bored out of my wits and had some hope thinking it would be better than the other cheap hallmark movies these days. The main couple just didn't feel like they had a real connection, that they were truly in love?! The guy is so stiff and moves like a robot. It just felt so CHEAP and CHEESY and it was soooo PREDICTABLE. You could easily guess where it was all ending to and ughhh no, it just wasn't for me. The script sounded like something someone just threw together in 5 minutes. No personality or uniqueness to it. The godawful music certainly didn't help and altogether the movie was just FORGETTABLE.
Office Christmas Party (2016)
Bad bad bad
The Office Christmas Party was boring asf, it wasn't funny and it felt really empty and shallow. Jennifer Aniston was the only one doing any real acting in this.Jason Bateman's character in it was the least amusing.
I can't fathom how this is a comedy movie??! All in all I think I chuckled twice at some bits and that was it. If this is the direction that comedy movies in Hollywood are heading then i'm staying well away. There's nothing in it I haven't seen a million times before somewhere else. It was just thrown together in the hope to make a few bucks by taking advantage of the Christmas box-office and it's easily forgettable and not something that would make you want to come back wanting more. The trailer makes it look better than it actually is. Boring boring boring.
Table 19 (2017)
Nice, simple, enjoyable romance movie
I thought Table 19 was a good movie. It's definitely not the funniest but what it definitely lacks in comedic value it can make up for other things such as; Anna Kendrick putting on a good performance and it having 'somewhat' identifiable characters, in seeing as a lot of people could emphasize with the feeling of being a social reject at least once before, hence the main theme of the movie. If you're looking for a funny movie, this one isn't for you. I just didn't find it funny, sorry. It's a solid, at times quirky, sappy movie.I felt the beginning of the movie to be quite bland. The offbeat ending was in parts unexpected from what the viewer would have guessed by reaching half way through it's length, but it one of the best parts and really tied up the story- lines in a cool way. I gave the movie a 5 because it really isn't for everyone's taste.
Beyond (2016)
it started off good but then it became terrible.
utter crap. It is so cheap. The characters have no development.I know its a sci-fi show, but it is so unrealistic in terms of the characters behaviors and it really doesn't make much sense. It has no suspense and a really poor pace. BLAND BLAND BLAND. It copies shows like stranger things and the x files. It's SO cheap. The pilot starts off good but after halfway it just gets really bad and the pace is just terrible for someone who's just woke up from a coma of 12 years. I felt generous in giving it a 4/10 for the acting which for most of the actor's was pretty good, especially considering how bad the show is. It really disappointed me, I had such good expectations for Beyond, but it fell through and has let me down. Anyone who actually enjoys this show has really poor taste. I feel bad for most of the actor's who have to go around and try to promote this crap. I doubt it will even get renewed for a 2nd season.
