Mr Inbetween: I'm Not Leaving (2021)
Fitting ending
Ray was a bad guy you loved to watch. Flawed, yes. Throughout the series his flaws were laid out. Who isn't flawed in their life? Loving father, loving brother, and loving boyfriend. He screwed up with his girlfriend, once again, who hasn't? He DID make a mistake with Freddy. That actor has a great career with Characters like Freddy, such as the US show Justified! Ray gave Freddy too many second chances, I'm surprised he made it this far. The humor was, as usual, added appropriately. Serious scenes only had humor as needed. The humor was easily identifiable in everyday life. Having had a career with gallows humor daily, I loved how it was funny. He tied up many loose ends by the end, including his father. His smile at the end, to me, was a bit of foreshadowing and I enjoyed that touch!
Primal (2019)
Head slapper
The first thing I slapped my forehead for was Frank, the skilled hunter smoking a cigar in the tree, his dart gun is packed away and he's making all kinds of noise. Completely unaware and vulnerable I'm sure the smell of a cigar will not blend into the environment. Then, Lieutenant Taylor showed up in the tropics in blues. A Vietnam ribbon on the top rack, the complete opposite as to where it belong belongs, even In 2019 a Lieutenant with a Vietnam ribbon would be nonexistent. Also, her badges are questionable on said uniform, and a the medical emblem is for an Army uniform lapel, not a naval officer. She would have acorns on her sleeve above her gold stripes. That's just first glance. That's enough for
Me to tune it out. By the time Robert's seizure I was fumbling for the remote quicker than the guards access to his cage!
Wolf Hound (2022)
Just watched the trailer
The trailer told me everything I needed to know, except, who wrote this? 1944 sure looked like 2022. Did they Read a history book or two? Just because it's "based" on a true story, doesn't make the movie factual.
Soldiers of the Damned (2015)
Dad's Army or Dad's Wehrmacht?
Reminds me of the old Hammer Films, everyone has a British accent. The way they wear their caps, it's Dads Army. The sniper's stutter goes away after the blow to his head. A Thompson Submachine gun? Really? I won't even touch on the Wehrmacht Major's Aryan blonde hair. So blonde, he's The Boy with Green Hair...another classic sci-fi movie. The best character is the Wehrmacht Lieutenant, not over the top in his acting.
Never So Few (1959)
Rat Pack at war
I remember this as a kid in the early 60s. It did not age or travel well through the years. Richard Johnson was my favorite then, and still is after all these years.
Meteler (2019)
Who was in charge of this group?
I'm at a loss after watching this. The melodrama bordering on hysteria by these actors is mind numbing. No one seems to be in charge or takes command. They turn their backs on the enemy, lay down their weapons and share intense, longing stares into each other's eyes in the middle of a firefight! A Grenade launcher is on one rifle, yet they don't fire it prolonging the attack on them. The wall they take cover behind is like Swiss cheese, and you can see the "enemy" passing by through the holes. I do admire their skills while "running and gunning" with pistols and scoring "one shot, one kill"as they run through the rubble, dropping the enemy as they pass by. All this was after I woke up missing more than half of the film. I won't even touch on "the American General". I'll happily volunteer to advise them for their next film. 2/10 was quite generous. Oh, and I've seen much better Turkish military films.
