An incomplete mini series ending
15 April 2024
An excellent watch and. Charlotte Hope was outstanding in her role of Micki Pretorius. The rest of the team was average, perhaps they performed their roles well because they were just like how the police were in the 90's in South Africa. The tint used in the filming befitted the 90's very well too.

With the personal problems which Micki developed because of the type of work as a profiler, the end of the mini series leaves a lot of gaps. But perhaps the producers did this on purpose to entice viewers to demand a continuation of this series. There are many more true stories which can be told, specifically about her life. But then again her role was probably fictitious in making this series.

Binge watched the lot
13 April 2024
Let's start with my end coments first. It's a lot of baloney! After all the hype we heard about this new show, it seemed to be just up my sleeve. Unfortunately, although the scenery is good and lots of fighting between different types of people, it is not clear initially what this show is about. Probably one has to be a gameplayer to know which characters are evil, good or indifferent. Even after viewing all 8 episodes, I still don't have that answer. I presume in the game the player decides who is good or bad. It reminded me a lot of Westworld, though it is very different and not Westworld. But the people behind this series also produced Westworld. I expected a better show . . .

it deserves a 10+
12 April 2024
The truth is here for all to see. The difficulties the soldiers endure and have to deal with it all. War is not for sissies It's hard and cold fact. People die for their country. Yet more enemies are sent to destroy and take over their land. Where will it end? When all defenders are dead? It's time for the free world to WAKE up ande provide the ammunition, the weapons and all they need to defend their country. Unkraine only ask for this and they will defend their own land. If they cannot continue through lack of weapons, more countries will be taken over by the evil that exists in the name of Putin. The EU and NATO are waking up to this fact, but what about the USA?

Way too slow
22 March 2024
Being totally unaware that the story comes from a trilogy of books, I liked the IMDb synopsis and went for it. First episode I accepted would be more of an introduction to get to know the players, which it was. But the second episode was just as slow and one didn't know what the story was really going to be about. As I like a good sci fi show, the bits that were uncovered were real quantum stuff and not a lot of nonsense. Alas the show was spoiled by too much talking and too much irrelevant other happenings to fill an episode. I started losing interest by episode five but continued binge watching. Eventually we learnt of the true nature of this story and I was keen to see what the threat looked like, but for that we have to wait for season 2. Pity, season 1 could have earned a higher star rating from me if it was faster paced and not full of conversation, which was often boring to watch. Never the less, I eagerly await season two, which can only be a vast improvement of this introductory season, being drawn-out disappointing.

Friday Night Sext Scandal (2024 TV Movie)

It happens everywhere
19 March 2024
This TV movie covers the happenings in senior schools to a certain extent, but it is much worse than this film projects. It is not a matter of hunting, but privately sharing pictures between boys and girls. If a boy likes a certain girl, he will send a nakied picture of himself and if the girl likes him too, she will send a picture of herself in return. It is a most harmful practise and is the result of social media that this sexting occurs. In the olden days people approached and chattted and chaffed each other and relationships arose in this more harmless manner. It is important that parents bring up their children to these current social media and dangerous happenings, because once a picture is on the internet it will stay there forever and may cause sorrow and worse, many years down the line.

A different problem
8 February 2024
I never bother about these types of science fiction movies. I like science fiction, but it should be enjoyable to watch. This film is very different. It plays with your concience. The storyline has been done before, but this movie tells the story from the paralell being's side. Is he human or artificial? That is the question. The story evolves slowly but retains your attention. It is a worthwhile movie for those viewers that like these types of films. I still found it okay and well played and produced, hence my star rating of four stars is below what other viewers of this genre will give. They will enjoy it more than I did..

Seen up to episode 4 and I won't see any more
5 January 2024
Percy Jackson i've always liked but this show is not for me. It seems to be written for small children and takes ages to get anywhere. In other words it's another dragging story.

It forces me to compare it with the two movies that were made about Percy Jackson in 2010 and 2013, called 'The Lightning Thief' and 'Sea of Monsters' respectively. They were enjoyable to watch and I rated both these movies 7 stars each.

For the present production of Percy Jackson and the Olympians I stuck it out as long as I could, but found each episode seen a bore to watch. Definitely not for grown ups and I have given up, giving this show a rating of 3 stars. The youngster must like this show because their star rating is already higher than the average for the two movies, which currently stand at 5.9 and 5.7 respectively.

Dr. Death (2021–2023)

Only started watching when season two came out
23 December 2023
But first I watched season 1, which was interesting but too drawn out with most annoying time jumps. From episode 5 on I started watching at a much increased speed, returning to normal when I needed to update what was happening. I also skimmed through episode 6 and some parts of episode 7, but watched the whole of episode 8. I expected a good court case but alas it was mostly mediocre.

Season 2 was another case about a different doctor, thus different actors, made again with lousy time jumps and a more difficult case to follow. I stuck it out to episode 6, but saw very few operations being performed. It was more a love story and I called it a day. I will conclude this season tomorrow but won't change my star rating though it doesn't even deserve this 'high' level.

Incoherent and and this story doesn't flow
9 November 2023
The most disappointing movie I have seen in a long time. I was looking forward to this production and all the hype that came with it when released. This movie is no match to the BBC 7 part series made in 1980 which was smooth and could be followed easily by anyone. If it wasn't for the fact that I had seen the BBC production, I would not have known what really was going on in this movie. It is nothing but a dud and a waste of time watching it. But I watched all of the 3 hours and walked away extremely disgusted. The film doesn't even recognize the fact that the charges were exonerated after his death.

Why Emma Mackey was chosen to be Emily
15 October 2023
Frances O'Connor, the Writer and Director of Emily, wrote this version of Emily Brontë, specifically (in my opinion) for an actress she must have seen in the TV series called Sex Education which started in 1999 and ended in 2023. This actress was Emma MacKey who performed the role of Maeve for 4 long years.

I have watched Emily and some of the scenes immediately reminded me of Sex Education in which Emma Mackey's performance was excellent. Some viewers complain that Emily is not a true biography of Emily Brontë's life, but it is clearly stated in the movie that some fictitious people and scenes were added for dramatic purposes. Hence my observation.

I was very happy with Emily and the story. This version fitted perfectly to the style, expressions and dialogue used by Emma Mackey in Sex Education and worked well in this movie too.

So true to what real ife is about
7 October 2023
I first came across this series in about 2000 and saw part of episode one. The opening scene bothered me a bit but I didn't want to admit to myself that I liked what I saw. Is it just a sex story? And a comedy? That didn't sound right, so I put it aside.

Recently it appeared on Netflix again with a star rating of 8.3, which made me wonder how can this be and also still rated as the Third best series on IMDb in 2023. I then started to watch it in curiosity which after about three episodes became an obsession. Binge watching followed thereafter.

The series is very well researched and covers all fetish things happening in today's life. Furthermore it took me back to my own youth at high school, more than 60 years ago. It was happening then too but not openly. Still at my high school it was decided by the parent teachers association to split the co-educational school to a girls school only and the boys were moved to a brand new school.

The series covers virtually every aspect of life, albeit at an exaggerated pace to keep one's attention and not become boring. The series is made as a comedy but the facts exposed and experiences among people is accurate and true. This makes it a brilliant production. I do have one problem - for who is this series meant to be seen? The players are all about 16 years old in the series but kids seeing this series at that age and younger will start experimenting it too This series might actually have increased the permissiveness among the youth. For people over 18 I see no problem, they will mostly have crossed this barrier already.

I did not like everything in this series, but it was good to see how people experience life different from so-called normal people. I congratulate the makers and players of this production and give it a solid 9 stars . Quite a few viewers have felt that the series should have stopped after season three, but season 4 was just as important to get conclusion, but even I would have liked the end being more positive for the main cast, but that shows that I was living in this series too!

Hesitant
5 February 2023
Having seen the high rating for this series and not being a gamer nor like watching zombie movies, I took a chance and started watching this saga. To my surprise episode one was very good and if I had to rate that episode it would be an eight. The second episode was a little disappointing and shifted in time, having lost a liked character as well, leaving a rating of 6 in my books. The third episode was about other characters, which I disliked intensively and was most annoying to watch. This had absolutely nothing to do with the story and earns my disapproval rating of one. So for the 3 episodes so far seen, it boils down to an average series with a rating of five stars. I await episode 4 to make up my mind to continue watching or scrapping the lot.

I did finish this series many months later and was ashamed to have rated the earlier episodes so low. It becomes very good viewing and the roles of the two main characters are performed excellently. Now I am looking forward to season 2, for which we will have to wait until 2024 if not 2025. My rating for the whole first season is a well-earned 7 stars.

Why so slow?
3 February 2023
I wonder what this story is going to be about. I usually don't read any reviews before watching at least one episode but in this saga I have seen two. I, however, don't know what to think about what I've seen so far and quickly looked at the rating, which is way above I think it is worth right now. Scenes take so long to get moving, but we get some eerie music to accompany someone walking through creepy passages for no reason as nothing happens. Perhaps I am impatient and must watch some more episodes. I don't know what other viewers think, but I will read these after I have submitted this review.

Pity, but still hopeful
3 February 2023
After watching 1 episode of this saga I am disappointed. It looked fine on paper and I always have liked space stories. Yet I wonder for which audience this series is meant to be. Disaster caused us not seeing any older crew and juveniles must now vent for themselves. So I assume it is meant for kids, but why? In my world it's still the other way round and preferable. Then a story can be based on known science and perhaps even be educational. Knowledge about space is coming out fast and furious and interesting sagas can easily be cooked up with that in mind. But who knows, I'm not giving up yet and hope for the best.

A pleasant adventure
20 January 2023
I seem to be the first reviewer of this movie, though I have read both external reviews, I do not intend to criticize the film itself. My aim is to give an opinion of a viewer and I do that with eagerness. The last few years many American film were most disappointing and this Dutch movie was a nice attempt to be different. The plot is easily understandable and in my view the main characters were the horse, Silverstar and the girl, Esmee, who made a compassionate impression. Though the film is meant to be for teens, it is nice enough for older viewers as well. Who doesn't like to watch 'good' triumph over 'evil'? There are other subplots as well to satisfy other genres, but if you like horse adventures and a thriller, this film fits the bill nicely.

Okay, but my mind keeps wandering off
31 December 2022
A likeable story, something that I have never seen before. But boy oh boy the scenes keep you very busy watching and also having to keep up what is being said in Spanish, as sub text, is very tiring. Have finished watching 8 episodes to date, with I believe 2 more to come, my mind often wanders off before the end of the episode or I fall asleep. This has happened to many episodes, but not all. I don't know why this happens, but perhaps it is the endless talking and the story taking too long to get to the point. The many sub plots also confuse from time to time. Stories are written to be enjoyed, so a more straight forward approach would have been preferred. I do, however, like the music.

Touchy presentation
23 November 2022
The story of the rovers, Spirit and Opportunity, sent to Mars many years ago. Many people alive today have forgotten those days when these robots blasted off into space to explore a different planet to try and discover whether it ever had life and more important to support life as we know it, water. The year was 2004. Many interesting discoveries were made and eventually probably proof of past flowing water, which could have supported life. Spirit lasted 6 years before it failed but Opportunity carried on for many more years, 15 in all. Not bad for a life span of 90 days for which these crafts were made to last.

What was disappointing is that one wasn't sure whether the scenes on screen were of real Mars photography or simulations, or both. It probably comprised both mixed together, which unfortunately makes many conspiracy theorists believe that we never have been to Mars.

A poor production
31 October 2022
If one doesn't know anything of this happening in 2017, this production is just a compilation of discussions of no real interest. It is inconsequentially put together, thus the viewer is seeing scenes before and after the fact, all jumbled up. It would have been of better use with a proper beginning and what happened and how it ends. If I didn't know this event really happened, I would have stopped watching it almost immediately. What the viewer gets is what he or she deserves for watching yet another Netflix documentary of no value at all. It is not even worth having to type at least 600 characters to say so.

The Fog (1980)

Too long for this tale
19 October 2022
Having seen John Carpenter's movie "The Thing" made in 1982, was a real revelation of what I consider, a decent horror story, which I saw way back in the early 80's. This movie, however, did not give all the answers and someone else made a sort of prequel also called 'The Thing' in 2011, which was also thoroughly enjoyable and gave more details to unravel the saga.

But recognizing John Carpenter as a master in creating good horror stories, I only came across his earlier horror story "The Fog" released in 1980, which has been remastered and I attended to watch. A simple story, perhaps over-acted and apparently made as a private movie, so not much money could be spent on making it. It's a shortish movie, barely an hour and a half, but takes a longish time to get to the point, so the whole movie would be much better viewing to cut out a so-called, non existing, built-up. With stricter editing it could have have been a one hour movie and qualify for a higher star rating. The latter half of the movie was quite enjoyable viewing.

Actually a well made dramatic movie
14 October 2022
This battle's title says it all - The Forgotten Battle, an unheard of event in 1944, where the Germans were securely anchored on an island in the south of Holland and Dutch resistance fighters helped Canadian allies just a few hundred meters away in Belgium to wade across the swallow waters to attack the fortified defenses to start their liberation of Holland. Gruesome fighting ensues. The sub plot comprises a father as a surgeon, working for the Germans, his son of 17 being a resistance fighter, and his daughter working in a city council controlled by the Germans. This film is based on a true story and well worth seeing.

For youngsters and young at heart
12 October 2022
Warning: Spoilers
A nice title makes one think immediately about a sci fi superhero movie of which there are plenty around. But no, this one is about four ordinary children who in the absence of adults play around in their uncle's study, the youngest of whom discovers a book with directions to a door in the mansion, taken them all to other worlds. This is the beginning of an adventure, where each one of them receives a gift to fight evil and ultimately manage to get back to their own real world. It's a pleasant story and a fantasy above all, reasonably well acted. Who will enjoy seeing this? Perhaps the whole family at a matinee show but this film is mainly for children.

A dud and insignificant movie
12 October 2022
Knowing nothing about Czech history, I was eagerly awaiting to view this saga about Jan Zizka, a hero of the 15th century, fighting for freedom. Expecting a brilliant show is not what I got. Starring some well-known actors, but most others completely unknown to me, did not help. The spoken English by non English speaking actors was difficult to understand what they were saying and the story was most confusing. It concerns a numbers of bands of badies and goodies running around in the forest bashing each other whenever they met, but the viewer has no idea who is who. The impression I got was the film being a symbolic presentation of what had been endured in this century with gospel type of music throughout the show. Apparently the movie makes sense if you know this history.

Tedious and so drawn out!
10 October 2022
The Lord of the Rings, comprising three long films, were sometimes slow and tedious in its story telling, but were a joy to watch. The characters were interesting and grew in statue as the stories progressed. Thus a prequel about the rings' power and where it came from was an eagerly awaited saga. But the producers for some reason, decided to make this tale into a TV series, which in my mind was not a good idea for the following reason. Getting to know the characters takes time, especially where they are spread over different 'continents'. Watching the first episode was already a problem and having to wait another week for the next installment needed a photographic mind to know who is who and what each of these groupings were trying to do. Now having seen all seven episodes to date, I am none the wiser and have difficulty in staying awake in between action scenes. Maybe this series will make some sense further in the story, but thus far a great disappointment of their own making.

Two is enough
10 October 2022
A police series is always pleasant to watch with interesting stories, so I was eager to experience this new tale. The first episode was okay and introduced some of the characters. But not knowing East New York I did not expect it to be a racial show across the spectrum with bickering, antagonism, etc. We have enough of this in real life, so we don't need to be reminded of racial tension in mock up stories. Rather give us positive stories about crime, whoever commit them, and have experienced policemen and women and detectives investigate such happenings without bothering to be political correct. I am now satisfied that this show is not meant for me.

A Tense Thriller
11 September 2022
It's not easy to make a movie comprising mainly two persons and keep the audience engrossed in viewing the story. But this film is one of those that succeeds in this task. It is not a perfect movie, actually far fetched, with some stunts that even circus acrobats would not be able to do. So over-the-top it is, but fits the plot, taking place on top of a TV mast some 2000 feet tall. Gripping throughout to hold your attention and maybe generate some sweat. For lovers of a good thriller, not being claustrophobic nor afraid of heights, an excellent way to spend and hour and forty five minutes of your time. You won't regret it.
