The Harder They Fall (2021)
Excellent
I found this moving very intriguing. It has all the action of classic shoot ' 'em up westerns but mixed in modern eclectic music. I typically don't watch westerns much these days but thought I would give it a try and I wasn't disappointed for sure.
Some reviews were about keeping it a classic western like the music didn't fit the era. This is a movie not a historical documentary.
I liked the humor like when the town was an all white town and it literally was all white.
It's funny and sad which works for me.
Revolutionary Road (2008)
This movie shows the plight of women looking for their voice
I had watched this movie years ago and it really moved me at that time. I watched it again last night and realized that this movie isn't about a man and wife who hate each other it is about a man and wife who are struggling to fight for themselves.
Kate Winslett plays a wife who had dreams of being an actress and meets Leonardo DeCaprio. He woos her when he is poor and doesn't know what he wants to do. The next time we see them she is a failing actress and a mother of two living in a suburban house far from her husbands work. They argue about her performance but it fades to him and his being in a job he hates.
She realizes that they both need a change and comes up with the idea that they can move to Paris and she can work while he finds himself and what moves him. He goes for it, of course after he has a fling seducing a young secretary in his soulful tale about being his birthday and he is working where his dad worked many years before. She of course feels sad for him but not for herself that he used her for sex and then leaves her saying she is a nice person etc etc.
He is ready to leave until he gets a promotion and the realizes he is now important and decides they don't need to move after all. She (Kate Winslett) realizes he is not going to go to Paris since he is now getting accolades leaving her back at the house as a mom of two and one now on the way. She is of course upset and is fighting mad since she wants the freedom to explore a new life where she was going to work and he was going to explore a new life.
It goes on as she is now pregnant and wants an abortion so they can leave and have a new unfettered life but he being now on the road to success doesn't see thing the same way.
She proceeds to give herself an abortion that they both were were going ti do together but as he now is successful he sees no reason why she shouldn't be happy to just stay home and be a wife and mother.
This says a lot about how women are punished for thinking of being free to experience more about life than just being home and raising a family. She doesn't say she hates her kids she doesn't say she hates her husband at least until he says no to moving now that he has his new life. Where does that leave her?
Of course she uses the abortion device and dies as a result (which movies tend to do to women who decide their own independence). This is such a sad moving story about women who love and still don't want to lose themselves in the process. Why are they always punished for thinking of themselves but men are applauded when they pick themselves over family?
The Tender Bar (2021)
Ben Affleck shined in this movie.
This story is one of deep love, deep commitment, and deep disappointment. The commitment of the mother and uncle to keep this deeply lonely boy on a track for personal success.
The mothers dream that he would be somebody and an uncle who loves him as a son and commits to helping educate and encourage his nephew. His father is incapable of any love or commitment except to himself and a drink.
Yes, I was bothered by the lack of aging of the mother and grandparents they basically looked the same from when he was 8 to when he was 20. That being said I loved the slow pace of his maturation.
I am not a Ben Affleck or George Clooney fan and almost didn't watch this movie but the trailer got me here. This is the best Affleck performance ever! He and his friends are so real. He could actually be up for an award for this performance in my opinion for what it's worth.
Them (2021)
Oh A Hard Watch but it Makes a You Think
I have watched this with horror but keeping in mind of what it must have felt like to be an unwelcome guest in a place that didn't want me. The scenes are horrific, brutality of a child.
Anyone that has birthed a child can relate. A well done testament to Trans Generational Trauma.
A job well done!
Don't Look Up (2021)
A good movie
I thought is was a really good movie but didn't care that they used a woman President to be so self motivated. The one time we have a woman and she is cold to her son and dismissive to science. The other satire I got the woman (Jennifer Lawrence) and then a black man they dismiss and of course the man( Decaprio) gets the media attention.
It says a lot about our current times social media and ratings are everything along with believing hacks on television telling us we can make money or like and subscribe. Too funny.
Moving Art (2014)
Beautiful Images
I love the images but the music is distracting. Why can't nature be nature in all its glory. Why do we need some distracting music! I want to hear nature be nature.
Please let nature be left alone it is it's own symphony.
