Bhoot Police (2021)
Watch it even if aren't a fan of Arjun
Jumping in to add this review because I feel the present rating (5.5) is an injustice. First let me explain why I liked it and then I'll talk about why I am surprised by many bad reviews posted here.
I was about to give this movie a pass simply because "Bhoot police" sounds like a desi rip-off of Ghostbusters. Fortunately, it's not. It's a lighthearted comedy movie with horror elements. The makers used a number of tricks to keep the story engaging so it doesn't bore you.
Performance wise, Saif is great, Arjun is average, Yami is average too because of her flat characterization, and. Jacqueline is somewhat irritating. It doesn't matter much though because Saif and Arjun carry most of the story. The writing is funny. I'll ignore all the plot holes because it is ridiculous to look for those in such a film.
Why many of the reviews surprised me:
1. Many are just adding bad ratings without even specifying why they don't like it.
2. Some are simply Arjun haters. It's fine if you don't like him as an actor, but, in this film, his character doesn't have so many colors like Saif's does. So it somewhat balances out his performance.
3. Some people are mentioning that they liked the movie yet gave it a bad rating and some are posing spoilers in the name of review!
I believe many watched the movie with wrong expectations. You can't blame the film for that.
Cinemawala (2016)
A good watch
Another nice film from Kaushik Ganguly; though whether you will like it or not is more subjective this time. Cinemawala tries to make a case against piracy. Since this is an era of rampant piracy, anyone who fails to see the unethical side of the same might not relate well to the main subject. Kaushik has found a sensible way to handle the topic and told it by keeping the troubled relationship between a father-son duo in center stage instead.
The cast managed to deliver really good performance and portrayed believable characters. Cinemawala successfully projects some relatable and touching moments. I found the ending to be somewhat predictable, but overall it's definitely a good watch.
