Terrible
18 April 2024
Warning: Spoilers
As other reviewers have said, this is a total waste of 6 hours of your life. It's set up as a quirky, small town mystery/sci fi American Netflix sort of series full of odd characters but it doesn't quite live up to this.

None of the characters are particularly interesting or likeable so you don't care what happens to them.

The series isn't sure what it wants to be, a comedy? Sci fi? Murder mystery?

It's not funny enough to be a comedy and certainly isn't thrilling or complex enough to be murder mystery or sci fi.

By the end of 6 episodes you still don't really have a clue as to what's actually going on. There's too many stories which don't actually come together to make any sort of coherent outcome.

There's a guy wrongly imprisoned for murder, there's there's some weird drug that makes people hallucinate, there's a random guy over seeing a fracking outfit, people wondering into woods and 'seeing' things, and then a side story for the main character where her ex turns up. I mean why? None of it is related and none of the stories reach any conclusion.

I was disappointed with this. By the end I was left confused and dissatisfied as there's too many loose ends that aren't tied up, not enough explanation for how things turned out. Too many unanswered questions. Apparently there have been hints at a second series. I won't be watching.

Really really bad
9 April 2024
This is just awful, I cannot understand the people who are giving it ratings of 10. It's just not funny, I love irreverent silly comedy stuff like Blackadder etc but this misses the mark altogether. I get it's meant to a daft bawdy romp type of programme but it's like a bad ammature production done by the local drama group. The script is poor. The acting is poor. I was actually cringing watching some of it. Even bringing in some top uk talent doesn't help. They look embarrassed to be there. Some of them must have been desperate for money, there's no other way they would agree to be in such a poor production. Avoid.

Tedious and silly
3 March 2024
Warning: Spoilers
So I only sat through the first episode of this series before I gave up. It follows the stories of vacuous attention hungry social media junkies who end up being stalked and harassed online. It just turns very silly very quickly, what with the silly graphics of phone lines incessantly shown and childish warped voices (which are supposed to be scary but had me in stitches) nobody seems to know how to use the block feature on their social media accounts or have the sense to contact police. This should be a cautionary tale of not sharing too much online and not being so trusting of others, but it just goes round in circles and becomes another sensationsalist Netflix ratings grabber.

Downton Abbey (2010–2015)

Throughly enjoyable watching
22 January 2024
Downton Abbey is a perfect example of British drama done correctly. The series follows the upper class Edwardian Crawley family and their exploits as well as those of their staff downstairs. I never watched it when it aired initially, I only started watching when it was repeated on Netflix. It's a show that you turn on and get in to and forget all your current troubles. Pure escapism. Most of it is on point.. the casting (except maybe Elizabeth McGovern who seems out of place) the costumes, the script, and of course there is the gorgeous Highclere castle which stands in as Downton. Some of the stories are pretty far fetched, some convoluted and many characters are one dimensional. However it is very enjoyable, it's a comforting little world you can escape into while you switch your brain off. A cosy little hug of a programme!

The Romans are coming... all 10 of them
14 January 2024
Oh dear. This was clearly shot on a very tight budget and it's obvious from the get go. It's like something your local theatre group would produce. Cheap costumes, cheap sets and awful z rate cgi all add to the poor quality of this. The story leaves a lot to be desired too, I mean is there even a story?! It just kind of meanders from one pointless scene to another. You're always waiting for something to happen (you know, because we all know the real story of the famous warrior queen) but it never really goes anywhere. The acting is pretty terrible too, again like they're picked people who's showed any interest in it. The casting just doesn't fit. Cheesy, hammy and just not worth it. Boudicca deserves better.

Awful
29 December 2023
I stumbled across this accidentally and since Brenda Blethyn is in it, I thought I'd give it try. It's really awful, the characters are so cringeworthy, the acting is bad, there's basically no real plot and the script is terribly cheesy and unfunny. I don't know how on earth this could called a comedy. As usual they are too interested in ticking certain boxes than making genuinely funny, relatable comedy. The saying the old ones are the best still rings true... stuff like the Carry Ons, The Two Ronnies, Rising Damp etc are sorely missed. At least in the old days they knew how to write good character driven shows that really make you laugh, this is just a poor imitation.

Sooooooo sloooooooowwwwwww
9 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I wasn't sure what to expect from this, from the title I thought it was going to be some cheesy hammer horror type story where young women are turned into waxwork dolls. Unfortunately it's not nearly that interesting. The story focuses on 2 young sisters who are employed in painting dolls faces. One of the sisters aspires to be an artist and gets entangled with a group of other young arty types looking to exhibit in THE great exhibition. Unfortunately it takes an age to get there, there's so much pointless dialogue it drags the story out needlessly. None of the characters are particularly interesting or inspiring and there is the usual tick box casting that we see in everything nowadays despite it being inaccurate. I gave up after episode 2, too much of a snooze fest for me.

Disappointing
2 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
As a Scottish person born and bred and one who visits the loch frequently and a lover of all things Nessie, I was pretty underwhelmed by this. It's a short film about the Nessie hunters and media circus that have followed the quest for the monster for decades. All the usual suspects are here. There's nothing about the monster or the actual investigations, it's more about the people behind the searches. They had an actor playing Frank Serle, possibly the most notorious Nessie hunter of them all. He died years ago so I'm not sure why this was included, it didn't really add anything as there was interview footage of him while he was alive. There's nothing new in this film or anything that can't be found by searching on YouTube. Pretty lacklustre.

Dull and predictable
9 October 2023
This was listed as a thriller but honestly it's like a bad cheesy Hallmark tv movie with a lot of pointless sex thrown in. Whilst the acting is pretty good and the pace decent, the whole premise is just unbelievable. None of the characters or their situation is in anyway realistic. It's convoluted silly nonsense. I hated everyone in this film, they're all selfish, greedy, needy and narcissistic. They all behave like children. Is this really how high flying business types behave in the office?! And the relationship between the two leads, again unbelievable. All they do is work and have sex, there's no build up to understanding their characters or any back story. It all just feels pointless. I suspect this film is aimed at millennial women who all want to be b*tch boss girls who don't need a man. Can't see who else this would appeal to.

Someone was desperate for cash
8 June 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Oh my god this is terrible, it's really really bad. It's a blatant, unashamed rip off of Silence Of The Lambs... and a very poor one at that. 2 detectives team up to catch a copycat serial killer murdering women and leaving them posed in various ways, in homage to 'The Artist' played by John Malkovich. What on earth is he doing in this?! He's so much better than a low budget rip off. It pains me to watch him in nonsense like this. I mean the driving scenes are hilarious, it's green screen!!!! Martin Lawrence is a seriously bad actor, I never knew how bad until seeing him in this trying to play the mean tough cop. He's just not convincing. The script is awful too, as is the sound, I struggled to hear a lot of the dialogue. Just avoid it please!

Pure and utter tripe
6 June 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Strong proud black woman defends her kids on a move across the country after her husband dies, after falling foul of the local drugs boss... who also just happens to be the local sheriff (you'll work this out as soon as you see him) where do the purple and lights come from all the way out in the desert?! How does a middle aged woman manage to fight off a gang of skinheads?! Why is every white person portrayed as racist country bumpkin?! Who put money up to make this??! Absolutely awful, I can't believe I sat and watched this. Cliched story, awful acting, predictable.. I mean it has every component of a bad film.. and more. Shockingly bad.

The Craigslist Killer (2011 TV Movie)

B rate doesn't cover it
16 May 2023
I thought this might be interesting as it's based on the crimes of a real life serial killer. I was disappointed. This is such a low rate movie, it's like one of those awful Channel 5 made for tv afternoon movies. I get that he would be charming and smooth... that's how these guys operate, but in this film he's like some cheesy boy next door slime ball. The actor in this part is just not believable at all. How would a supposed intelligent med student be so taken in with him? And her family, and her friends. There no chemistry between the leads, the acting is terrible and it's just not believable. No tension, no suspense, it's like it was made in 1995. Just an awful waste of time and an insult to the people he killed.

Could have been better
12 April 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Ex drug addict mother of two is moving out of her old family home as she can't afford to stay there. Gets locked in the pantry by her abusive ex and his pedophile friend. She then makes one stupid decision after another in a bid to escape, like trying to dig out of the floor instead of seriously trying to break the door down. She also sets fire to aforementioned pedo's arm just outside of the pantry she's locked in?! Utter stupidity. All the while her kid runs about whining about apples. It's just a bit silly and far fetched. There's no real suspense or threat and with a better script and story it could have been a decent film.

More films like this please
21 March 2023
I'm not a Tom Cruise fan, nor was I fan of the first Top Gun movie, but I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed this. It's a great flick, with a simple story, it's good fun with plenty of action. There's no silly gender ideology, pushing agendas or cringy woke nonsense. There are characters you actually care about and who make you FEEL things, which is what movies are supposed to do. Modern filmmakers please take note! This is the sort of good old fashioned blockbuster that people are missing nowadays, we don't go to see movies to be lectured to. We just want simple escapism and a bit of entertainment for a few hours.

After Life (2019–2022)

Quite while your ahead
26 October 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I like Ricky Gervais, I enjoy his brand of humour. Me and my hubby recently binge watched all 3 series. It starts out in series one being highly entertaining, intelligent, moving and thought provoking. Half way through series 2 however it runs out of steam. It does begin to get very repetitive, samey and even irritating, while we watch Gervais character Tony grieve and slowly (painstakingly so) come to terms with the death of his wife.

I mean there's only so many times we can watch Tony gazing wistfully at laptop vids of his wife as he falls asleep, wakes up, dozes on the sofa etc etc. I mean it becomes excruciatingly tedious and I found myself wanting to learn more about the other characters in the story, especially the postie and his sex worker girlfriend.

Tony is obnoxious, selfish, dull and I would even say nasty (he gives a drug addict money to get money for an overdose) He's not the angel the programme is desperate to portray him as. At times it becomes really cheesy and schmaltzy, I mean when his wife was alive he must have spent 24/7 filming her! Nobody does that.

Nobody films their partner THAT much. It's just not realistic.

In short it's funny and well written and well acted but they should have stopped after series 1, or at least used the further series to develop some of the other characters more.

Don't understand the hype!!!
12 September 2022
My hubby loved this but I think I must have been watching another show. I think the other reviews of 9 and 10's must be fake, they all say pretty much the same thing!

The premise is actually quite interesting and original, but the delivery is poor. The acting is really cheesy, Timothy Olyphant looks awkward and embarrassed a lot of the time. The script is nonsense. There's no chemistry with him and Barrymore, so they're just not believable as a couple. I mean, I know it's supposed to be an offbeat comedy but something just doesn't quite work with it. I didn't laugh at stuff that others describe as hilarious! It's just doesn't work. It could have been really good. It's a shame.

Unbelievably stupid
21 August 2022
This is a truly awful series. I only got about 15 mins into episode 2 and that was enough. The storyline is just so stupid and completely unbelievable. It's worse than those channel 5 afternoon movies! The acting is terrible and the script is downright cheesy. There are far better things to do with your time.

The delusion is strong in this one
15 July 2022
What on earth is this meant to be about? Supposedly her half time superbowl appearance.. but then it descends into 'let's all feel sorry for Jen cos she's Latina and has such a hard life.' Who convinced her she could win an Oscar?! She's not a great singer, can't really act and her dancing is mediocre. All we hear is cliched nonsense, about how life was rough, she grew up in the bronx, she's Latina (that's apparently why she doesn't get jobs or why she didn't win an Oscar. She's so desperate to paint herself as a hard done to minority. I mean it's so tedious, fake and superficial. And did I mention she's Latina?

Beyond cheesy
10 April 2022
Oh dear. Who is this aimed at? Kids? Young adults? I doubt it would appeal to any of them. It's just pretty bad, cliched sets, awful wigs, the obligatory dirt smudged unconvincingly on faces. The acting is poor and storylines non existent. It's like a parody of period dramas. Dickens must be turning in his grave.

Please stop making this trash
22 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
C'mon seriously who is still making movies like this?! It's terrible, and don't believe all the fake reviews either. Cliched b rate sci-fi/horror trash. This has nothing going for it. There's dead a guy who stands and moans the same word over and over again and then some stuff floats off into space. That's it's really, laughable and tedious.

Takes a while to get going but worth it
16 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Decent films, especially horror films are very few and far between nowadays, this is actually a very decent film. It does take a while to really get going but once it does it hooks you in. It follows a family recently bereaved and mourning the death of a grandmother, from there it escalates into a pretty horrific tale of disrobing cults, devil worshipping and demons. There are some really unnerving and truly creepy moments in this, there are one or two of the usual horror cliches but generally it's an original story with decent acting. Well worth a look.

Tedious to the point of irritating
5 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Can't understand all the great reviews on this, it's awful. The lead character is basically a dickhead who seems to be able to behave in any way he seems fit in a police call centre. Being rude to callers and picking and choosing what he fills his time with. The calls he answers are so ridiculous it's laughable, and the whining kids and bleating abducted woman are so bad it's painful to listen to. I wanted her to be killed she's so annoying. Tedious script that drags on and on you don't care what happens to any of the characters.what a waste of time and money.

Drab and severely lacking
19 December 2021
Pretty awful telling of the Kray brothers rise to notoriety. Nothing in it is particular convincing, from the poor acting of the leads (at one point it looks like one of them is going to launch into a Lee Evans impression) phoney cockney accents, poor costume and set design. If it weren't for the fact it's about the Krays I would have struggled to recognise the time period this is meant to be set in. It doesn't reveal anything new about the twins, rather just over the same old hackneyed ground we've seen done so much better in other Kray films.

Dear oh dear
7 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Embarrassingly bad even by B movie standards. 6 annoying ex high school kids go out on a lake to party and end being 'stalked' by a big monster fish. There's the usual cliched characters, sensitive guy, geek, meathead etc etc. It's so bad, they scream things at it like 'what do you want?!' Because it's not obvious enough that it wants to eat you all?! Steals from all the usual suspects too... i.e. Jaws, piranha etc. They all deserve to die, especially the one who films it all.
