Dave Chappelle: Equanimity (2017)
Dave Chapelle at his best.
I could watch this 10 times! In fact I have!! Timely, cutting edge and needed.
Dave Chappelle: Sticks & Stones (2019)
Definitely not his best
Man I was so looking forward to this I love Dave Chappelle, but this special just wasn't him at his best. While I love that he challenges the social media outrage culture and is always pushing the boundaries the joke were slow in the way they were told and often the payoff missed. The banging of the mic on this leg to emphasize something he thinks as funny has always bothered me, but the walking up the stage and then right back down was so distracting. Hopefully he will take a few years off releasing a special and building up his material.
Free Solo (2018)
Don't Believe the Hate
If you don't get a chance to see this in a theater, watch it on the biggest tv you can possibly find. I'm shocked by some of the negative reviews on here, some written serious hate. Just because Alex's preparation was so meticulous that his solo climb looked easy doesn't make it any less impressive or nerve wrecking. The hate for his girlfriend is so mean and unnecessary. The relationship dynamic, along with Alex's uncompromising laser focus on his goal added to the drama of what he was attempting.
The movie is beautifully shot and the camera team did an excellent job of getting the footage they did, considering Alex didn't want them on the wall to begin with. See this movie and enjoy the grandeur of one of our most amazing national parks and witness one of the greatest athletic feats in modern history.
