The Zone of Interest (2023)
Boring and a huge waste of time
I'd rather watch a movie about all the Nazis being rounded up, the way they treated all their prisoners. I like watching criminals getting their just due.
I've seen several mainstream movies about the holocaust. Schindlers List, Sophie's Choice, the Holocaust mini series and others. I read the Diary of Anne Frank. It's a horrific stain in human history. Its
disconcerting to see the re-rise of Nazism in America. It's scares me that we could repeat something similar in the United States. That a dictator could be elected and could be allowed to prosecute his political detractors. We're already witnessing an annihilation and genocide of the Palestinian people by the far right Netanyahu and his henchmen. What's worse, is the US is funding this atrocity.
Babylon (2022)
Self indulgent chaos
I may be one of the few people here who didn't like this film. I loved La La Land. I watched it several times. So I was excited to see Damian Chazelles new production.
It was loud, obnoxious, debauched, chaotic and egocentric. I'm finding it hard to believe that Hollywood was that pornographically excessive. The LA underworld was even worse. I think Sodom and Gomorrah would have been a more appropriate title.
The saving graces were Diego Calvo and Jean Smart. Characters I could relate to. Brad Pitt was decent and likeable. Margot Robbies character was one extreme to another with full blast crazy being her MO...she wasn't likeable but her performance was exceptional.
Wish I could have liked it more. It had its moments. So much was unnecessary. So many other better films this year. I do see a great future for Diego Calva. A star is born.
Selling the OC (2022)
More real estate, less drama, please!
I didn't see much connection between the Oppenheim twins and the cast, like there is in Selling Sunset. Right away the show opens with an overt display of narcissism from Gio. Lots of petty drama happens during the first episode...we have no background or any connection to any of the cast. It's not relatable or inviting like Selling Sunset. We've come to know the characters over time. We know their stories and vulnerabilities, their strengths and weaknesses. With OC, we're in the dark. Maybe it'll change and get better over time but it's definitely not off to a good start.
