Surprisingly awesome
20 April 2011
I think Zack Synder must suffer from ADHD judging by this film, and thats not a bad thing. I've been a fan of his since Dawn of the dead, not a fan boy but I like his style over substance filmmaking, he's certainly better and more consistent then a lot of other big budget directors out there.

Right from the start we are in the familiar Snyder-isms of CGI and slow motion. Complaints about the lack of story are valid but then that's not the point of this film. Its purely a visual experience and as such it delivers in spades.

Coupled with the sheer beauty of Emily Browning's eyes and game performances from all involved, this is great, not perfect, summer entertainment. I think that Synder continues to grow and develop as a filmmaker, and I look forward to his Superman film.

2nd season brings on darkness and rewards fans
25 October 2009
As with any show "Dollhouse" took a bit of getting into for me. The 1st season had some amazing episodes but nothing that really jumped out and grabbed you. As a fan of Whedon's I chose to stick with hoping that he had something up his creative sleeve. Thankfully we were rewarded with the Alpha episodes of season one and the 'unaired' episode which showed us what he had planned for the future and hope against hope this amazing second season.

4 episodes in and the darker style suits the show so much better, Whedon and his writers are allowing the characters to grow, within the conceit of the show, and you get the impression that a whole lot of trouble is going to descend on them.

My faith in Whedon has been restored and now I hope he has the chance to complete the show.

worst film I've seen this year
17 October 2009
I had high hopes for this based on the cast and the trailer, I don't think I've been this wrong since Ultraviolet. If you want to watch a good Gothic science fiction horror watch Event Horizon.

How did this get a wide cinema release, I love science fiction and horror films, so this film was probably aimed at me and my kind, but I found this slow, uneventful, and so dark I could hardly see what was going on.

Even Paul WS Anderson can turn out better then this rubbish. The annoying thing is I can't place what annoyed me more, the performances, or the direction, or even the complete lack of pace. Having not seen anything else from this director, I'm not inclined to search anything out, there will be an audience out there for this crap, hell the score on here proves that, but I can't think of anyone I personally know who will find this entertaining or interesting.

On the plus side it did cure my insomnia.

Uncomfortable, yet I never stopped laughing from start to finish

Warning: Spoilers
This is easily the funniest film of the year so far. Sasha Baron Cohen is without doubt one of the bravest comedians on film at the moment, and thankfully he doesn't so any sign of stopping.

In the UK we got introduced to him as Ali G, a character I personally never liked, mainly because he seemed to be tying to embarrass people, same with Borat. Bruno seems to move away from this slightly, in this case Cohen gives his interviewee's just enough rope to hang themselves, and in some scenes, the child model auditions spring to mind, even he seems surprised by their reactions.

This film is the perfect example of marmite film-making, your either going to hate it, or your going to get the joke and laugh your ass off. Thankfully the screening I saw everyone seemed to get the joke, even though I did hear one audience member comment, 'What the F**k, was that!'.

Only two scenes bugged me, the senator sequence felt out of place, and the final song was a bit, 'look who we got'.

Please don't go and see this if your easily offended, but if your not, go , laugh and see it again.

slow, boring, and just plain rubbish
3 March 2009
I've just finished watching this huge turd of a film; and I've been drawn into commenting for the first time. I love horror films, both old and new. i consider myself to be a fan of indie films and will hunt out the more unseen titles.

I'm sure there was a good film in here somewhere but it got lost under all the bland directing and acting that would make most soap opera 'stars' look like Oscar winners.

there is nothing redeeming about this film and please don't make my mistake and watch it out of morbid curiosity.

i only hope that none of the cast or crew ever work again.
