The OA (2016)
a young blind woman comes back to her town able to see!!
I love this show it's unlike anything I have ever seen before. The OA is such a passionate woman, and although she is weird, her intentions are good. This show has so much energy, The OA is such an interesting, spiritual woman. Her story is rather weird, perhaps even fabricated but it's an amazing story nonetheless. Even if it isn't true, how was she once blind and now able to see again?? This show is just so unique. The OA was able to get people from different backgrounds all together and form a family no one would ever think of. She loved them, and they loved her. I'm still not sure that her story was fake and was hurt when everyone else gave up on her too. The OA may have stopped a huge massacre with the help of the kids and the movements
Master of None (2015)
Aziz Ansari's comedy that follows the life of a young Indian-American male
An amazing show! I've loved Aziz Ansari since I first saw him on Parks and Rec. I'm so glad he was able to get his very own show because he is hilarious! I love shows with this kind of humor... It doesn't try too hard to be funny, it just is. The characters are like my own funny, silly friends! It's also so refreshing to see a show with a main character being a POC! It's not often that shows in America show life through the perspective of an Indian-American. The show points out problems and issues in America, like the struggles of LGBTQ community, in a more light-hearted, relatable way. I just finished the second season and I just love the show!! The Italian was beautiful to hear :) This show is so funny and so real. Amazing. Allora!!
Skins (2007)
British drama following the lives of typical teens
When I first tried to watch this show, I could not get past the first ten minutes honestly. I thought it was just another dirty teen show. I am so glad I gave it another shot, because now I'm watching it all over again for the second time - it is so good!!
After I finished vol. 1 and 2, I was so sad!! Starting generation 2 with a whole new set of characters was so difficult for me, but after an episode or two I think most people just get used to it. I have fell in love with each generation separately. All of the characters all so unique. This show touches on so many teen issues, it's amazing. I think adolescence is a really rough time for most people filled with confusion, and shame due to conflicting ideas and new feelings. This show touches on many taboo topics, and makes many people understand that others have gone through what these kids have gone through. This show touches on so many things including mental illness, jealousy, eating disorders, death of friends, death of parents, alcohol and drug abuse, teen pregnancy, neglectful parents, strict parents, teen love, sexuality, gender identity, severe trauma, sibling relationships, school, etc. It's so fun to see how you relate to different characters for different reasons, and people you know everyday who remind you of skins characters.
This show is an emotional roller coaster that will make you laugh, cry, and everything in between. I'm so sad there aren't more generations.
Dope Sick Love (2005)
This documentary chronicles the lives of 2 heroin addicted couples living on the streets of New York City
This documentary was so intense, unfiltered and raw. I feel as though many people know that drug addiction is bad, but this documentary shows what people really go through under the control of drugs.
Hearing/seeing the sexual acts they all performed regularly for drug money was really shocking and a hard reality of what many people on the street feel they must submit to, especially hard seeing that they wanted to be loyal to each other but felt they had to do this to survive. I remember at one point one of the men saying he just tries to dissociate himself from his physical body, so he can do what he has to do.
They also scammed people a lot. Picking locks and trying to be buzzed in to buildings they don't live in to shoot up,stealing receipts from the trash, finding the item in the store, then "returning" it for money, and Michelle even pretending to be an undercover cop willing to break a deal to men who have picked her up
They also have rough family dynamics. Two had children they hadn't seen in months. Matt had a falling out with his brother in the middle of the street when he was given a hard truth.
This documentary showed a lot, what I wish it did show was an update at the end.
