Star Trek: Strange New Worlds: Ad Astra Per Aspera (2023)
An attempt to rewrite history
It is easy to think that Star Trek always dealt with societal issues like the ones presented in this episode. That however etirely ignores the fact that it never preached AT its audience. Instead it showed us our own flaws by making us (the federation) the morally developed society, and put what we could be in contrast with other societies that were disproportionately hurt by specific issues of the day. Even then the federation rarely preached AT the other culture, but instead presented nuanced perspectives, and engaged in clever philosophical discussions of its flaws. None of these stories served to attack anyone's race, gender, culture, opinions or point of view, but instead simply sought to tell a good story, cleverly constructed to contemplate BOTH the advantages and disadvantages of our own way of life. It is just as easy to think that this is "holding a mirror" to certain people, but all this is doing is constructing an oversimplified and one-sided strawman of a conflict, and spewing hate at anyone who would dare to present exactly what Star Trek always has: A different perspective.
To summarize: Star Trek was created to ask questions, never to attack and insult. The problems faced by Star Fleet captains of Old Trek were cleverly constructed and filled with multifaceted dilemmas, while all this show presents is a hatefully motivated oversimplified strawman scenarios. It is tempting to think that this simply upholds the values od Old Trek, but for the reasons above, and many others, this in no way resembles any Star Trek produced prior to 2008....
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds: The Broken Circle (2023)
The writing took a nose dive with this one
Season 1 was for the most part a wholesome, well written and respectful collection of stories.
The writing in this episode however is all over the place. The crew faces no consequences for their actions, two characters who have no business fighting suddenly fight their way through a small army of klingon warriors, and the episode is littered with hateful sexist steriotypes. Hopefully the issues in this episode were due to some kind of internal conflict surrounding the season opening. If the rest of the show becomes like this from now on, SNW might just end up walking in Discovery's shoes, and like its predecessor end up loosing money.
Edit:
After watching the rest of the season i can confirm that this was not a one-time thing and the entire season has all the same problems. If you read this to consider if you should watch the rest, i suggest downloading a playback speed extension for your browser and speeding through the episodes for the absolutely FANTASTIC CGI the vfx team produced. The story is garbage and the characters are nothing like themselves. They simply have the same faces and voices but are written as empty stereotypes. One new stereotype for each episode. Do not waste your time on this. Go watch season 3 (skip 1 and 2) og Pickard instead. It is incredible!
Wednesday (2022)
Brilliant!
When you forgive the first 5 minutes of the show, which look absolutely horrendous as if produced by high school children, the show looks, sounds and unfolds perfectly. The characters are interesting, and the powerful moments are allowed to happen the way they should. It shows how much love went into Wednesday, and how well the actors settled into their roles.
This, like Andor, proves that there are still talented people working at these big companies like Netflix, Disney and HBO. Lets all hope that the political activism stops, and gives way for real writers, actors and directors.
In short, go watch it!
The Orville: Electric Sheep (2022)
Satisfyingly self indulgent
This episode was ckearly meant to be a show of new special effects, and taking a moment to have some fun. The new technology and budget shows.
As for the moral messages in the episode, it presents a good reality check for many in a time where personal responsibility is becoming taboo. The episode comes off a bit too preachy, something that The Orville generally had an issue with. The show could use some moral ambiguity, instead of so heavily pushing what ever moral standpoint the creator maintains. 4his is what pulls the episode down, and will be seen again in the episode "A Tale of two Topas".
All in all a good self indulgent episode, with a moral message that encourages people to seek help, and take responsibility for their own health and safety.
Prometheus (2012)
Stupid but entertaining
While the plot is rather shallow, and the movie clearly is mostly a rehash, it remains visually stunning and entertaining. I keep coming back to it every few years, if nothing else, because of the visuals. Would reccomend to someone who is looking to watch a movie with their dad who enjoys action flicks. Do not expect to be blown away. This is entertainment. Nothing more, nothing less.
The Orville: Twice in a Lifetime (2022)
Best episode in the season, possibly best in the show
The dilemmas, the payoffs for previous storylines, the harsh realities and the science. This episode has everything. Good save after the horrible previous episode, and perfect sci-fi!
The Orville: A Tale of Two Topas (2022)
Tries to be like Star Trek, falls short.
While Star Trek has always been commenting on societal issues, it always did so indorectly through the lens of an alien situation. Whiøe there were a very small number of outliers, Star Trek never devolved into completely mirroring society word for word. This episode does nothing to make people think. It tells you exactly what to think, and paints the side it disagrees with in a bad light. While i agree that Topas' surgery should have never been performed, that does not change the fact that it happened. The worst part about the first episode handling this issue, was how horrible it was for Bortus to be powerless as they butchered his child. In this episode, the same happens to Clyden. Where is the empathy for him? Why does this episode take no issue with the fact that a parents wishes were entirely neglected, and when he tried to stop it he wad voilently forced to the ground? Sure, this episode corrects a wrong. But it does so in such a one sided and non-reflective way. This episode is not what it is made out to be, nor what it claims to be. The double standard on display in this storyline is insane.
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds: The Serene Squall (2022)
Weird and preachy
As much as i love Anson Mount and Number One, the episode feels weird. The villan of the episode does not have a single scene without preaching about identity and self discovery. While the topics are relevant to Spock, this is not a way to explore them. This comes off as cheap and demeaning. Star Trek has always been progressive, but it has been more intellegent about it. These topics are usually explores through experiences and metaphors. Not litterally shuved in your face like a social studies lecture or a steict talking to by your parents. I love everything else about the show, and with very few exceptions the season has beem great so far. We do however need the writers to dial it down. Pushing political views is fine, but at least make an effort to make it seem like the entire show simply exists entirely to do so. Tell good stories first, and infuse them with the themes you are looking for. Not the other way around ...

Gone but never forgotten. Rest in peace old friend.
Foundation (2021)
4 Episodes in
So far the character development could need a bit more attention, however given we are only 4 episodes in i don't think that will be an issue for long. It clearly is attempting to create vast story compared to shows like The Expanse and Star Trek, that usually feel like they have more of a modest reach. I say this as a 10/10 fan of The Expanse. There is nothing wrong with localized storytelling. I just enjoy the attempt to make something bigger. The beginning of the show is somewhat slow, even though the first episode has some fairly extreme events in it. What truly hooked me was a scene in the 4th episode, in an interaction between the emperor and his mathematicians. The acting and dialogue was breathtaking, and the scenery absolutely stunning. Complaints about the vfx are entirely false, and likely made by people who did not even finish the first episode. The visuals in this show are every bit as impressive as the trailers made them out to be, and i have seen no reason to think they will stop being exactly that. There is an issue of a potential "Diverse female space Jesus" akin to what happened in star trek discovery, but after seeing what they did with Empire i am inclined to give them the benefit of the doubt. Give this show a chance. It's different and expensive. The expensive part really shows! Even if the story pans out to be awful, you will likely still enjoy it as a work of visual art in every scene ...
DARLING in the FRANXX (2018)
Sticks its landing
There is no reason to hide it. This is a square remake of Neon Genesis Evangelion without the iconic designs and art style. That being said, it does provide an above average story and an interesting dynamic between its characters. What stood out to me however is the ending. It ends the story. That's it. It just ends the story. The characters get a future they like, and the show ends up feeling complete. Many today underestimate the value of telling A story from beginning to end, and actually finishing it. When writing this i watched the last episode for the first time just a few minutes ago, and i feel like i can close the book. It was an experience i enjoyed, and the end made me remember it better than it probably was. One of the most difficult things to do in modern storytelling is sticking the landing, and DARLING in the FRANXX did this gracefully. Don't watch this show because it revolutionized something. Don't watch it because it poses critical questions about existence that haven't been asked a million times before. Watch it, so you for once can feel like something you started truly ended in the best way that it could. It will leave you with a joyful feeling of completeness and finality.
For All Mankind: The Grey (2021)
Amazing show, terrible episode
The visuals are amazing and i love this show, however this episode made no sense. Its like a 5 year old wrote a summary of a script. The conflict ended too abruptly and they just threw away something that was suposed to be a big deal.
Zack Snyder's Justice League (2021)
Snyder vs Whedon rise of justice
One of few movies i will place along sides the gients such as Infinity War and Endgame. If given autonomy and future movies, Snyder will save the DCEU
Sky Sharks (2020)
Only for the cgi
Title says it all. Come back with a good script and litterally any non greenscreen footage and i will watch the sequel

Stargirl: Pilot (2020)
Good start
The show both looks, sounds and feels good. Just please stop doing slow-motion scenes. They don't look good. They are the only thing reminding me that this is a tv show and not a big budget movie. If this is how fast it was filmed, speed those sequences up. Just please keep it non slow motion.
Inhumans (2017)
Seriously?
You gave up the movie, inhumans plot in agents of shield was barely passable and you made an entire show based on it? ...
Star Trek: Short Treks: Q&A (2019)
Star Trek spirit returns!
Great episode! Just please, don't overdo the musical thing its cringe
13 Reasons Why (2017)
A leap in the wrong direction
The show is doable sure i wasnt bored or anything but i wasnt exactly taken away with the story.
My reasoning for rating the show so low is not with the show itself but rather with what the show does to society. It has made mental illmess and suicide less taboo and as a result these subjects are everywhere in social media now. Yes this was alredy happening but this show is part of a movement that i personally find to be bad for everyone. I fear for my own children should they ever be born that they will have to grow up constantly hearing about how depressed people are. Its unhealthy. There are so many outlets for people with these peoblems. Please choose one that wont drag millions of people with you
Devs (2020)
Good pitch, confusing execution
The story and storytelling is good, the atmosphere is mysterious and the lead character needs to disappear.
I have watched all available episodes and i still cant cope with her presence. Litterally every other character in this story would make for a more interresting main, including the homeless guy.
I also have a problem with the dialog in this show. Its too authentic. Too ... realistic. Yes they are all programmers, so am i. I recognise the speach patterns. I recognise the monologue. Its realistic, its consistent, and its too much. It feels awkward. This is not a reality show it is a scifi mystery with a deep meaning to explore. The exposition allthough justifiable considering the topic is formatted in a way that in some way bores me and in some way keeps me watching.
This is a good show, thus the rating. I am excited about seing how it continues, i am happy to see that someone spent their time creating this and i wish it not only continues, but inspires more shows like it. Good work!
Another Life (2019)
Amazing!
Like, the people hating on this are not wrong at all the characters are relatively shallow and the plot as well as the physics are both very stupid but when you turn off your brain Michael Bay style, simply accept and ignore the stupidity and enjoy the show for what it is it gets so funny and gripping after the first couple of episodes. This is clearly not ment to make sense or be realistic in any way. It is just a story set in space. Dont come for the realism, come for the story and cgi!
The Big Bang Theory: The Stockholm Syndrome (2019)
Thank you
This show changed my life. Thank you for everything ❤
