This movie is not an Adam Sandler movie, neither was it a comedy in my experience. For me, it was experiencing the disturbing mental reality for Barry, a claustrophobic, paranoid and uncomfortable story that I was able to experience with a shimmer of love and hope that keeps your head just above water. A story that felt just as intense as uncut gems.
The editing is quirky but helps scenes in the movie feel more overwhelming and does it's purpose. The movie made me feel in touch with guilt, self hatred and shame. The uncontrollable character of Barry with the surrounding circumstances constantly made me feel like something was going to go wrong any moment.
Overall very strong acting, good characters and a story that kept me engaged all the way through.
Don't expect a comedy, nor expect a cute romance movie. In my experience it was a thrilling movie with a few moments where you can breathe and feel the love develop. 8/10.
