Not Sci Fi - Just A Military Advertisement
2 April 2011
Skyline was far better than this and that's saying something. There were so many "oorah" and "save the civilians" lines it was obvious this movie has been written with an agenda.

From the idea that advanced aliens land on Earth and use bullets and artillery, to entire armies being wiped out but a handful can still save the planet, it was scene after scene of predictable plot.

If I were the actors in this movie I would be embarrassed to have anything to do with it. Sure, most of them did their job well, but what for? To push/sell the idea that the military is our saving grace full of virtues that go beyond almost every other person and without them we are all doomed?

As decent directing, acting and casting as this movie has, it could not save any movie that has a script and plot this amateur, and appears to be little more than a recruitment advertisement. Some movies should be deleted and aside from an anthropological study of who signed off on this movie and why, this is one of them.

Great Sci Fi Movie
24 March 2011
This is a great Sci Fi movie.

One reviewer mentioned Independence Day; that movie was made in 1996. For some reason, there has been a distinct lack of Sci Fi movies made in the recent years. One of the reasons certainly not being they fail to make money. Somehow the movie making industry has just chosen to avoid these movies.

Skyline may not be the greatest Sci Fi movie of all time but it will provide relief to those seeking such a movie. It's got some clichés, some unique parts, acting ranging from great to OK, a script ranging from great to OK and a plot that ends with a cliffhanger.

Some say it's been made on a virtual shoestring budget which is laughable at $10M imo, and it has obvious alien influences from the game Crysis, but overall it is certainly not boring and very entertaining.

Those reviewers bashing this movie with 5/10 or less, seem to have access to endless better Sci Fi movies that the rest of the world doesn't have. For those of us in the real world, while we wait for masterpieces like Aliens, Matrix, Dreamcatcher, Star Trek, Star Wars (4-6), to be made - this is a good movie to put a stop to the lack of Sci Fi coming out.

Great Fun Version Of A Classic
6 February 2011
Warning: Spoilers
collipal-1 wrote: "However, that was not enough to compensate the boredom this generic and insipid movie provoked on me, so in conclusion, I do not feel like I can recommend it."

The ending of this movie revolves around the song "War" as sung by Bruce Springsteen. With an entertaining build up to this scene leading to the final ending with a heavy tone of romance and happiness, it seems collipal-1 finds this insipid.

While some may find enjoyable endings like this insipid, I ask them to consider a world without romance and full of war. What is insipid then?

Back to the movie - overall a very entertaining version of this classic story; many funny moments and a reasonable script with great acting and direction.

8/10.

Waste Of Time
3 April 2010
This movie is a complete waste of time. Poor acting, poor directing, amazingly poor script and 1990's looking CGI, the budget for this movie should have gone to a project that was worthwhile. While the first few scenes of this movie fool anyone into thinking this is going to be a gripping Sci-Fi Western, it is far from it. Almost every scene is predictable. Being a paid actor, it shouldn't be that hard to play a bad as gun slinging shooter. Clint Eastwood, Charles Bronson, Yule Brenner and John Wayne and so many more have left behind a massive library to learn from. Somehow the crew behind this movie seemed to have missed the basics that are taught from so many movies. The actors may have had a better shot if the scripting and directing had some talent behind them, but even a poorly scripted and directed movie with someone like Clint Eastwood still is enjoyable to watch.

Unfortunate Drama-Comedy About Divorce
3 April 2010
Warning: Spoilers
While this movie had many good moments from drama to romance to comedy, it was unfortunately a missed opportunity to reveal the truth of family. Two people meeting with a relationship that evolves into a family with food and shelter above and beyond those who are poor, have a role to play as parents. Should they separate it is their duty to reunite should that be possible. To find Streep's character throw away this chance was extremely disappointing and shows how some people are so selfish they refuse to live out their role even in the best of circumstances. With acting, directing and scripting skills obviously abundant; this movie had the unique opportunity to show the benefits to an entire family of reuniting. Instead it just showed the dismal reality that is played out all too often in movies, TV and real life. There simply are not enough references available today to show these lessons and this movie shows just how distant we are as humankind from learning the lessons of love. Dysfunctionalism is not OK.

Excellent Movie Based On True Story
3 April 2010
This movie is an excellent account of events related to a subject most people find hard to digest let alone comprehend. A suspense-thriller with an actual real-life edge, it is directed, scripted and acted out so well I am sure it has had an impact on those involved in making it. It will be a great day when more and more of these types of movies are made using such a high standard. While there are many stories of this nature available; this one has the merit of using actual footage and having reputable scientific information to support it. While the combination of the real footage takes a little getting used to initially; it's not long before the intensity of this movie takes over and the actors perform a fine job in portraying this amazing story. This movie deserves a recommendation as a must-see if you enjoy thinking outside the box as they say or, more to the point, do not believe what you are told by others who are obviously covering up the truth.

Rape detailed scene left out by many
21 October 2009
Interesting to note how many advocate this movie as a thriller or horror great movie. Then they leave out the fact that the whole movie is fueled by the raping of an underage girl. What a sad time it is when the typical suspense techniques are so overused and a rape is so used to create emotions in the viewer of this movie. It is as though the producers and director are specifically targeting people to feel hate and justified revenge from the hate that comes from the rape scene. Not only that but the viewer has to sit through multiple, as mentioned, cliché suspense scenes that are since Friday 13th, utterly not worth any money or time. Do not see this if you are looking for an original movie; do watch this if you are looking for yet another way to justify feeling scared and killing those who make you feel that way.

The Kingdom (2007)
Great movie about both sides
3 December 2007
Previous reviewer said "I went into this movie hoping it wouldn't be a cheap shot at either the US Government or the people in the Middle East"...

This is a shame that such ignorance exists. The only reason the Middle East is in turmoil is because of all of our acceptance of the international bankers and royal families bullying everyone into submission. They have funded almost every war we've had and fuelled anger in both sides with information campaigns.

This movie is an attempt to reveal some of these truths to those who are still holding the wool over their own eyes. Thanks to Redford and Streep we can see how the business side of the middle east lays a heavy toll on the personal side.

Great movie.

Great movie portraying the corrupt oil industry.
2 October 2005
-edit- davemed says "Stay away from this one." As mentioned below for all those interested in the truth of how the world works this is a great movie. For those who prefer to deny it and stick their heads in the sand like a south park character "stay away from this one...".

*It is interesting to see how IMDb has many members exist now who bring down a film with important information for the growth of ourselves and our planet. They do it with interesting techniques too. If you study their grammar you often find an arrogant tone and adjectives such as "muddled" or "slow" which can leave the reader feeling negative in a very effective way. The telling symptom displayed by these people which proves their ill-minded intentions in my opinion, is the opposite of what they are saying is true. This is pure shilling and these people are writing this stuff for a particular reason - they don't want people to watch movies that provide information about the truth.

After reading the negative comments on this movie I was apprehensive to see it. While there are some valid points per say with regards to the direction of the movie, the script and actors do very well. The result is a movie that does a very good job at raising the awareness of the ins and outs of big business, wall street, corruption and the energy industry.

Christian Slater and Salma Hayek and the other actors all do a good job to portray their characters. The environment-caring industry is also revealed in an effective way; showing how it has to compete with ignorance and greed. Also showing how this ignorance and greed is paid off with extremely lucrative sums of money; quoting from the movie, "...so this is how the other 0.5% live".

An entertaining movie that is worth watching for anyone who enjoys learning about the truths of big business and how it attempts to control the energy industry.
