Schitt$ Creek (2015)
HIGHLY LEVYTATING
This is a sweet, brilliant show. It has evolved now through four seasons with a depth and humore unmatched on other shows. It is written by Eugene Levy's son who was a TV star in Canada for many years before this show on MUCH MUSIC. It is cast with the funniest people alive--- CHRIS FREAKIN' ELLIOT. The actress who plays Alexis doesn't have to speak, just watch her face and you will laugh and she deserves an Emmy. The last scene in the first season also deserves and Emmy for Johnathan Rose's speech---wow.
House of Anubis (2011)
house
my 5 and 8 year old loved it. How many episodes are there? IMDb seems confused about that. I have never seen better hair on any show in history and the fashion is easy and cheap to duplicated. The story is easy to follow and it made the kids laugh a lot. Nick should do more shows like this. It taps the appeal of Harry Potter---all things British---without scaring them. A nice fun show. The mystery it's based on is a good one, hard to figure out and intriguing.
Actually Nick should do a live weekly variety show staring Jeannette McConnell. Imagine, all the Nick stars and hot tween acts performing in a one hour live format hosted by Jeannette and produced by Schneider.
A Small Circle of Friends (1980)
brilliant
I was in school then. This is the only movie ever made that got it right. 30 feet a part would be kids who were fighting the war and kids who wanted no part of it. Transformations from innocence to dissident happened overnight. Karen Allen is the best actress ever and why the hell isn't she working every day? This came out in 1980 and I thought there would be many more like this but nope---just this one.
It was a sweet time and every time I visit campus today, it's like a graveyard. Dull, calm, sane. I miss the charge that was in the air the 4 years I was in college, it's not there. Neither is the ambient sound track. Now everyone has speakers in their ears, not their dorm windows!
Mad Men (2007)
Robert Morse
Easily the most brilliant casting in the history of television was casting "pierpoint fitch' as the Chairman of this agency. true genius. The show is a pleasure, everything is right and tone is also right. Little things like the right mics are in the recording studios (no ever gets that right) It's the right version of the Selectrics.
I take it that his secretary is going to go on to be Mary Wells? And how come not one wife said....wait a minute they do their work in air conditioned offices, why can't we buy an air conditioner? wow.
Interestingly each media company selling ads in NYC had some of "these guys" around until almost 1980, you needed them to talk to the other guys like them at the ad agencies. And who all knew who they were--old dru ks who screwed around on their wives. Now, if they exist, it is well hidden not celebrated. Walter
Next (2005)
Dating perfection
NEXT is the most addictive show ever produced. I've watched it for hours and hours. It is produced perfectly. The editing, music, writing results in a perfect package of confection. Wisely Kallissa Miller's company logo loop at the end features a cat that winks---it's a pretty good laugh.
I admire the production team that makes this work, it can't be easy. Every transition is written in rhyme and to get those contestants to say those word convincingly must be a challenge.
What I don't understand is why, considering that the show takes up a majority of MTV's broadcast day, they don't promote it off the air at all? Where's the press? Where's the push? They should be proud of this, it's a riot. Thanks
