Get high on gore in Dreaming Purple Neon
21 March 2017
Plenty of blood flowing, slime spewing and arterial spraying keep the levels of horror high throughout with the occasional moment for character development makes Dreaming Purple Neon tick all of the boxes in a "What makes a good horror movie?" survey. This film is an experience like no other. Featuring a pulsating and incredibly catchy score that drives the action and suspense, Dreaming Purple Neon end up being a surprising, intense and original movie experience. A script filled with quirky characters and snappy dialogue, a truly over the top amount of offensive gross out moments and it is a fun, gory rattlesnake of a film that contains just as much charm as it does slimy, grimy set pieces. Because while it has often darkly funny moments, it is also often crude, violent, and even disturbing.

One promise: you will see things in this crazy movie that you might not be able to forget. No budget, no problem. It's a Punk Rock finger in the face of traditional cinema and it dares you to guess what may be around the next corner. It is truly like a out of control dark ride at some seriously twisted carnival during much of it's running time. The exploitation, action and horror genres mix perfectly together here. The underlying romance, while well done and earnestly acted, gets lost amidst the chaos of the overall movie, but that is my only small nitpick. And if that is all I can say negative, you know this is a gem of a low budget epic. Well done everyone!

These clowns left out the fun
21 March 2017
I really wanted to enjoy this movie. There have been some good reviews and I can understand how people had a good time, but I guess I just felt like it didn't go far enough in many ways. Violence for the sake of just making the film disgusting just doesn't work for me, and given how barren of humor this film is, I just felt nasty and bored. Many deaths seem similar and for a film like this, didn't really shine. Bill Oberst Jr. is very good here and he really carries the film. Otherwise, the clowns can be creepy, but they lose their scary steam and there seems to be no consequences and no connection to reality. The film is polished and it looks like they spent some money. It has some nice camera and lighting work and I think this director can do well in the future. Maybe come up with a more compelling story with less torture and more suspense.

Haunted mansion full of surprises
20 March 2017
This is a good old-fashioned good versus evil story, when our worst nightmares become reality and you're waiting until the very end to see who survives and who doesn't. I really enjoyed this movie. It is dedicated to Lucio Fulci, the famous Italian director. From the occasional creative camera angle and the ever apparent colorful lighting this film is a true homage to Italian Horror but with a more conventional horror style where you can easily follow the flow of the story and the exciting action paced horror, relying on shocks, suspense and scares along with gory setups. The music is very much a part of the film, filling nearly every frame. There are actual characters in the movie too! A solid story and some serious plot turns in the that make it all the better for fans of Italian Horror and splatter who wish movies were still made like the classics. It truly shows us a modern twist on a familiar Haunted House type of movie. Lew Temple is downright detestable (but very sexy) as Father Elias, George Hardy is funny and natural as the building owner. Allan Kayser who played the hunky Bubba on Mama's Family is pretty great here too as Bradster, but my favorites are Cassy played by Nicole Santorella, a girl with Psychic ability, and the classy and powerful Dyanne Thorn as Greta the madame with a heart of gold. She made the whole movie perfect for me. It's like what would happen if ILSA had a heart. Overall, a gross, fun and entertaining experience.
