Mushishi (2005)
A serious contender for the status of best anime of all time
What can I say about a show like Mushishi? All you really need to know is if you want a calm/serene experience with some of the most beautiful pieces of music anime has to offer then this show is made for you. If, like me, you are tired of the character tropes most anime use these days, then Mushishi will be a breath of fresh air because every character here acts like a normal human being. The best compliment I can give Mushishi is that it is like a nature documentary that you will never forget.
Steins;Gate (2011)
Almost a decade later still the greatest
The directing, the voice acting, the tonal shift from slice of life to psychological thriller, the script... All of that is what makes this show so god damn amazing. It's my favourite anime of all time and a no brainer for most people as the best anime this decade. Don't stop watching even if you find the first few episodes boring. I've seen so many people drop it and pick it up a few years later only to discover that there's a reason why most people consider it a masterpiece which inludes themselves after actually watching it all the way through. You'll be thinking about it long after you've finished it and if you're anything like me you'll still be thinking about it years later.
BoJack Horseman: The View from Halfway Down (2020)
One of the most important episodes in television
The amount of lives this episode probably saved is trully something else. It's an amazing episode that hooks you in from the start and it just builds and builds and doesn't stop until the credits finally roll. It's said before but I'll be the one to say it again - the poem "The View From Halfway Down" is one of the most powerful anti-suicide messages ever. At the end of the episode I was left looking at my screen in disbelief at what I had just witnessed and that was probably my favourite episode in all of television.
Steins;Gate: Turning Point (2011)
The beginning of the best time travel story ever written
One of the best first episodes in anime history but I'd be a fool to think that it's everyone's cup of tea. Some might even call it boring but I digress. What makes this episode a masterpiece in my eyes are 2 key things: the directing in this episode has some of the most iconic shots in anime history and just like the title of the episode says, that it shows you the ending without you even realizing it.
Steins;Gate: Dogma in Ergosphere (2011)
Game Changer
Just thinking about the last few minutes of this episode gives me goosebumps. From the beginning of the episode one may assume that Okabe might cause the end of the world with his time machine, but what actually happens is much less extreme, but somehow shocks you even more. Saying anymore will spoil the ending so I'll leave my review at that. Once you finish episode 12 you are finally ready for the thrill ride that is Steins;Gate.
Koe no katachi (2016)
This movie changed my life
It taught me about how people that bullied me only did that because I never spoke up and that infuriated them even more. They thought that I thought that I was the only victim in those situations. I wasn't the only one that was bullied in my class. There was a guy that had hearing problems which most of the kids in my class treated the same way the characters did Nishimiya at the beginning of the movie (they were kind to him and helped him out whenever they could) but a few days pass and that routine becomes annoying to everyone because he "doesn't contribute" to anything and he gets all the special treatment so everyone started to turn on him besides me and a couple of other people. What I would like to say next is that I was like grown up Mashiba in the movie and made them stop doing that, but no, I was like the most despicable character in the movie, Kawai. I thought of myself as someone that was good just because I thought what they were doing was bad. I also thought it was brave of me to say they should quit doing that, but as soon as I sensed they might turn on me even more, I just stopped saying that to them. Now that I've watched this movie I am disgusted by my younger self and that I ever thought I was a good person for just thinking what the others were doing to him was bad instead of taking action. I now know, because of this movie, why almost nobody liked me when I was younger. I am a changed man now, bsacuse of this movie.
Thank you for reading my review of the most important movie of my life.
