The Crown (2016–2023)
2/10
Synopsis of Tabloid Headlines
21 November 2022
I've watched this series since the beginning, always hoping it will get better. It never does. It's really insipid and has very little, "well, that was interesting" content. I just finished season/series 5 and will watch season/series 6 because I want to see how they handle Diana's death. I bet, though, it will show the crash, go to Diana laying in the car saying, "my god, what happened?" (because I think that's what she said as she was dying) and then they'll move to some other BS. Seriously, if you've seen the headlines from the news or tabloids, there's nothing really to see in this series.

No Chemistry Between Bullock and Tatum
15 May 2022
I was so looking forward to this film and disappointed to find it a snooze-fest. One reviewer is correct: it's a really bad remake of Romancing the Stone. I thought it had a King Solomon's Mines (1985) vibe to it, as well.

Bullock and Tatum have absolutely no chemistry and even though Sandra shines in some of her films, for the most part her talent is nowhere to be seen in this one.

I'm not sure why Tatum was cast.

Pitt was the only redeeming quality in this film. I know he was only supposed to have a cameo and he truly shined in his role.

Bottom line: what a bore.

I Didn't Expect the Camp
6 September 2021
I've never seen Days of Our Lives but thought I'd check this one out because I like the silly guilty pleasures of soap operas.

I admire the writers for soaps. The fact they can keep the storylines going for ages when most issues can be resolved by asking the correct question 2 seconds later intrigues me. As someone who knows nothing about these characters going in, the writers have done a good job in bringing viewers up to speed in the character vignettes of the first episode.

My 7-star rating is for the acting being pretty bad; I expected a little better. This is a soap opera so if you don't have ability to get past watching a soap, you probably won't enjoy this.

If you're a soap opera fan this will be a silly pleasure to watch with your favorite snack and tune out of life for about 50 minutes.

The storyline of season 1 is fun and I'll keep watching it for the campy-ness, hoping the acting improves.

Miss Christmas (2017 TV Movie)

A Pleasant Diversision
26 November 2017
I enjoyed watching this and I recommend it for anyone looking for a typical feel-good Hallmark movie. The leads have chemistry together and the supporting characters were enjoyable to watch. Some thought went into writing the script and there wasn't a lot of "stuff" that didn't make sense or was a ridiculous stretch. Granted, the choosing of a Christmas tree for a large city tree lighting starts 6-9 months, in advance, but who cares ... it's Hallmark. Most of us know what to expect in a Hallmark Christmas movie and the viewers get that ending. The towns that Hallmark uses to film in are usually super cute. I was a little disappointed with this filming location: it could have used more decorations. The snow falling scenes appear to be digitally added and there didn't seem to be a blue sky anywhere, which is a good thing. I did find it interesting that people were running around wearing sweaters, only, in December Wisconsin weather, though.

Don't Bother; A Real Snooze Fest
25 November 2017
Warning: Spoilers
This is the typical Hallmark movie that had a lot of potential but goes down hill from the start. The two leads, Laurel and Alex, have little chemistry and the story is ridiculous: **Spoiler Alert** The Mayor suddenly tells the head of Parks & Rec that she has 2 weeks to plan a full-on Christmas Parade (including floats.) She spends very little time planning the parade but miraculously pulls it off with seemingly very little help from anyone and very little focus.**End Spoiler** The lead, Laurel, is also really crabby and boring, making you not care at all about her. The movie was clearly filmed in milder weather so it snows a lot with a bright blue sky. The snow that's falling from the sky never lands on the ground. (C'mon, if you're going to digitally add falling snow, can't you turn the skies just a little gray?) In the end I didn't care about either of these characters and I imagine the director and crew fell asleep during the ten (?) days of slapping this film together.
