I was a member of a Baptists church for over 2 years. The Pastor's Wife portrays a fairly accurate account of the women in my church who firmly believe that the men in the family have the final say. The wedding vows too are fairly accurate in as much as the 'love, honour and obey' that were originally 'standard' vows. The pastor (or minister) in my church, although young was not (to my knowledge) violent, nor abusive. However he had little or no knowledge of domestic abuse as he had been raised in a non-violent atmosphere. His views were outdated though, because he constantly informed me that no matter how I was treated (or ill-treated), my role as wife was to be submissive, understanding and non-judgemental. My ex treated me okay (in public) behind closed doors, I too was subjected to verbal abuse both by him and his parents. The minister in my church did inform me that if I chose to 'abandon' the marriage, I too would be ostracized by the church. I chose to leave and (as promised) was ostracized.

Having viewed the movie, then the t.v series, all I can say is what was the producers of the movies thinking? Major Burns carted off in a strait-jacket, after being constantly ridiculed to the point of attacking Captain Pierce(Hawkeye) who deliberately set him up. Major Houlihan portrayed as a screaming shrew who is also constantly ridiculed. I have seen the t.v series and much prefer it. Major Burns (in the t.v series) appears to have mental health issues with bipolar/O.C.D. In reality he would never have been accepted into the M.A.S.H. The movie (to me) was not funny, it was sad and in extremely bad taste. In the movie Major Burns is ridiculed for reading his bible, this also shows also extremely bad taste.

Very thought provoking, without being overly sexually explicit. At 16, Amy is unusually overly innocent. She would be menstruating, therefore would have some knowledge of sex. However, the teacher (coach Nash) being a known paedophile should not have been allowed to teach. He had already had a 'run in' with the school over a previous relationship the year before with another female student. The school were aware of his preoccupation with female students and should have been keeping an eye on him, plus he should have been reported the previous year. His sentence was incredibly light. Amy's parents handled the situation well, the school failed them, the other students failed her. Amy gets my vote for her determination to see justice prevail.

Sad, extremely true to life, though. Teenage girl trying to find herself while being restrained by parents who believe it's their way or the highway. No room for discussion, zero tolerance on the parents part. I could find no evidence of Schizophrenic behavior with the girl. Perhaps slightly bipolar. I felt extremely hurt by the mother's decision to make the girl abort her baby with no thought for how the girl would feel. The parents constant insistence that 'they know best' was so apparent throughout. The elder sister arguing with the parents in front of the g'children very sad but so much part of the family's everyday life.
