Endless Loop (2018)
Worth the strange ride
This was a thought-provoking Chinese thriller. I wanted something that wasn't the same old and I got it. It felt like a small cult classic.
The movie has a solid plot and I felt myself thinking about it carefully after it was done. Very well scripted and acted. It did a lot with a little.
It could easily have been a 9/10 or 10/10 if the budget was just a little bigger in order to add some more elaborate scenes or characters.
Saying anything more will spoil the story.
Have fun!
Ghosts (2019)
Refreshing and Brilliant!
The casting was spot on for this show. I'm sad to see that it was so short. I had a very good time getting to know each of the characters and every single one of them is memorable. The leads are fantastic. Please give us more!
Aterrados (2017)
Pretty Darn Good Movie!
I'd almost forgot to review this movie which would've been a shame. It's a good little horror flick. It feels authentic and its scenes are certainly memorable.
Miseuteo Shunshain (2018)
Possibly the Best Series of the Year
I can't speak highly enough of this drama. It's one of the most incredible things I've ever watched, anywhere, period. A real masterpiece with jaw-dropping cinematography, outstanding acting, especially from Yeon-Seok Yoo and Min-Jung Kim who should win every award possible for their roles.
Nae Dwie Teriuseu (2018)
Funny Thriller with Class
This series maintained its quality the whole way through. Great cliffhangers, fantastic acting from everyone, and Ji-seob So like always brings something special to the show.
Great drama with a strong plot. Highly recommended. You'll binge it and not regret a thing.
FBI (2018)
Pretty Darn Good Pilot
It honestly feels like IMDB is getting hijacked these days by trolls. The pilot for this show was pretty solid. It had a strong moving plot with elements relevant to our current sociopolitical landscape.
It didn't pull any punches when it came to violence, so be warned. And it works to remove that veneer hiding America's "uncomfortable truths" as the first episode so aptly put it.
It's got a talented, diverse cast of characters, with two leading women. Give it a chance, ya'll! I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them (2016)
What this movie is NOT
It's NOT a grand view of the wizarding world of New York. It barely exists. There is no Diagon Alley, no clever and mesmerizing magical stores, no trains, no one flying in brooms, no use of magical places unless you consider Macy's magical - okay, there's a single magical location which I won't spoil but it's not particular to the city; it's not a magical location of New York and it's "okay".
Worst of all, there is no sense that wizards do anything in particular other than all go to work in the same BIG wizarding office.
It's very disappointing in that regard, especially when you consider the budget: $180,000,000 (where's all this money going these days?)
BUT, the movie is worth it. The story might be subpar and derivative but the quality of the acting and delivery is first rate.
Our Newt Scamander is an AMAZING character in the HP universe and Eddie Redmayne nails his role so perfectly, you could see this movie once and never forget him.
It's worth it for the noble tale and the incredible cast.
Dark Matter (2015)
Underrated and quite good!!
I'm hard to please and sci-fi is a hard genre to pull off but this show is ticking all the boxes for me! If you're a fan of interstellar drama then this show deserves your attention.
You have a crew with a story across a collection of star systems brewing with intrigue and human struggle. Sets that harken to the lived-in grittiness of Farscape and a core mystery.
It's true that it starts with a heavy handed trope of memory loss and borrows a character idea almost completely from Firefly but there is nothing wrong with emulation as long as it brings invention to the table. And that it quickly does, characters here are each flawed and self-conscious of ruining a chance at a fresh start.
We haven't had a series with so much potential in this genre in a LONG time. That's not an accident, it's hard to make people. Can't wait to see what happens next!
Grave Encounters (2011)
Blew Me Away!! Stop Reading This and Watch It!
Let me start out by letting you know I'm a horror movie addict. I probably watch 3-4 horror movies a week. I've watched nearly everything from the 1970s to now. I watch foreign horror movies. I listen to old radio dramas. You get the picture.
This movie stood out. Don't watch a trailer for it, I feel even that will spoil it. Make some popcorn, turn the lights off, put the volume high and hold on for the thrill ride.
I'm surprised this movie hasn't gotten more attention. It easily puts the rest of the found-footage flicks like Rec and Paranormal Activity in its pocket. It's not without its faults but I believe all the great scares and plot will more than make up for it.
The cast does a decent job, most of them are pretty believable especially the lead, the psychic, and the camera man. It's the perfect length and the atmosphere is great.
Autopsy (2008)
Gross, Boring, String of clichés
This movie is getting a 2/10 just because the lead is nice looking.
What to say about this movie... -It's not a real serious, or truly terrifying movie -It's not a funny, enjoyable B-movie either.
-It is a string of innocuous, retarded, and text-book cliché scenes we've all seen a thousand times. The characters are so stupid you don't even care about them.
-The lead walks around with vomit on her chest and tank-top for the latter quarter of the movie.
-This was the first time I felt bad for the actors who had to stand and participate in these scenes, they were actually pretty good.
Fear Itself: Eater (2008)
Let me guess... another serial killer?
I had high hopes for Fear Itself but it seems the show has been crippled by unimaginative and repetitive story lines. I don't mind if you're going to beat the Hannibal/Cajun Bad guy genre to death but at least do it with style and in a way that's worth watching all 40 minutes.
It seems the writers have a recipe, get a psycho and manage to kill EVERYONE (or at least suggest it) by the final minute in every episode. Suspense and fear only works if the outcome is unpredictable, it is the struggle to survive that's meaningful.
These guys should take a look at a little gem of a series called "Are You Afraid of the Dark", I think they would be blown away at its creativeness and eventually work a little harder.
