Superman & Lois (2021)
Superman does not have a beard!
This is a good show...it carries on with the Superman story in a different way. Granted, I am biased when it comes to anything Supe. Never was a fan of the actress who plays Lois though, and don't like her in this show.. But everyone else is quite believable, enjoyable to watch, and not overplayed. But I have only one serious gripe about this show...I don't know why they went with this...but someone needs to get Superman a Super razor. This actors very dark hair and darker complexion make for a dark and dingy look that isn't very nice. Superman never needed a shave...he looks like a hobo all the time. And someone, PLEASE, wash the suit!! It literally looks like Supe has slept in that thing for the last 100 years and my gawd, it must stink!! Whats the reasoning behind the vagabond and unwashed look?
Invasion (2021)
I'm sorry...is it over?
Do you know what moves slower than this show?...absolutely nothing on planet Earth!
Eight and half episodes of slow moving silt until something finally happens.
And when it does happen, its literally done in 20 minutes, and the entire story is over.
Why didn't they just do that in the first episode?!
And I honestly don't know why there will be a tenth episode, unless the characters aren't done being severely depressed.
I'm not sure who is more anguished throughout this show, the characters, or the viewer.
Yes...I will watch the tenth episode, for the same reason I have watched all nine so far.
Don't ask me what that reason is? Maybe just a love for sci-fi shows in general.
Maybe an interest in another take on the War of the Worlds story?
Maybe I am just a glutton for depressing, painfully slow moving, weak adaptations of an already overdone storyline?
The aliens are interesting though...if only you could get a decent look at one.
Seriously...no spoilers...I couldn't spoil this trauma if i tried.
If theres nothing else on, watch it. If you feel like going to the Dentist...maybe...
The Horrific Evil Monsters (2021)
Plan 9 from Outer Space this ain't!
I forced myself to sit through the first half of this...I fast forwarded thru the second half...There should be a system of Penalties and Fines levied against anyone who puts out a film like this. Wait...I take it back...calling it a "film" is unfair. Lets just call it trash. Tommy Wiseau called and said "the acting is so really bad". I honestly tried to find one redeeming thing in this trash and couldn't. I have goldfish that come up with better screenplays daily.
Pogey Beach (2019)
Don't waste valuable pogey time...
Spoiler: This movie is embarrassment on so many levels. Especially if you're Canadian. Its truly not worth a Canadian's time. Letterkenny is entertaining. Trailer Park Boys is fun. This...is pathetic.
T2 Trainspotting (2017)
I liked this film, but only because it was more Trainspotting.
Jonny Lee Miller was lauded for his spot-on Scottish accent in T1 Trainspotting...hes English, not Scottish. But in T2 he struggles. Maybe all those years as an Americanized Sherlock Holmes has dulled his skills? This movie seemed more like an excuse to give Jonny Lee a starring comeback because of his TV notoriety. Robert Carlyle is always good...but too much is too much. His character(Frank) is so unlikable, that it overpowers the story. Once again, because of his success(?) on American TV, this seemed like another effort just to cash in on star-power. Unfortunately even Rumplestiltskin couldn't turn this one into gold. Ewan McGregor...the central character(?) is relegated to a supporting role, which I didn't mind, especially when he was supporting Spud. Danny (Spud) is the saving grace of this film...delivering an awesome and moving character from start to finish. Unfortunately, drug use isn't pretty, and it doesn't deliver enough strength to carry the movie. The entire story is simple, but weak...not enough twists and turns, relying too heavily on Frank's revenge again. The music is a big part of this...the soundtrack to the original Trainspotting is an all-time classic album...but this film lacks the power and excitement of the first. Even the flashback scenes don't invoke the proper nostalgia, leaving you really trying hard to remember why you liked the original. I'd say T2 is a must see for any Trainspotting fan. It answers the "where are they now?" question and partially completes the story. But only partially, since it doesn't satisfy. Don't watch this movie expecting to be satisfied. Watch it to see that alternate ending that was cut from the original film. That really long alternate ending that was cut because it didn't really add much to the story.
The Bijou: A One Way Crossing (2014)
The Bijou: A Nit-Pickers Nightmare.
I had high hopes...since I love anything time-travel-y.
But I only gave this short film a 3 ...for effort. Obviously someone spent the time and effort to make the film. Thats worth an extra point (over my initial choice of 2 out of 10).
But for me, it was just so chock full of nit-picking moments, I didn't enjoy it.
The acting is par...maybe worse. But no worse than many soap operas. The premise is intriguing. Keeping it a short film was very smart. It would be difficult to flesh this out to feature length.
However, from the very first ten seconds, when a so-called respected archaeologist is randomly sticking his hands in a loose pile of fresh dirt ...seemingly looking for something he already knows is there ...and unbelievably ''discovers'' this Bijou device ...I was already shaking my head and nattering to the screen.
I'm sorry, but I don't give this one a thumbs up.
