El Gringo (2012)
6/10
Kind of a Spaghetti Western
18 May 2012
Warning: Spoilers
This movie is a five, maybe a six. I have seen a lot worse movies on IMDb with higher ratings. It was well directed and the actors all did a good job, the dialogue isn't even that bad.

It could have been a 7 or 8 but the over-the-top action sequences ruined it.

A New Mexico cop with Jason Bourne fighting and gun skills? I am tired of all the movies where ordinary cops who are able to fight and shoot like they had special forces training.

Spaghetti Westerns worked because Clint Eastwood was intelligent, resourceful and a great gunfighter and his performances were subtle. El Gringo would have been a lot better movie If the director had slowed down and done a better job telling the story instead of making it an incredibly unrealistic action movie.

The fight scenes are well shot, but the over-abundance of blood shed ruins the movie. I wouldn't say this movie is a complete waste of time, there are worse movies with higher ratings. However, it could have been a lot better.

Stalingrad (2003– )
10/10
This documentary is great!!
16 December 2006
Someone once said, "may you live in interesting times." I have to say I enjoy learning about World War II history because it was such an interesting time in our civilization. For someone born 35 years ago it is hard to imagine such a brutal world existed just 65 years ago. This documentary gives the viewer so much insight into the experiences of those caught in such a historic moment.

Stalingrad was a turning point in the tide of World War II. The director, producers and writers went to great lengths to find people to tell their stories of war. This documentary is sad and wonderful. Wonderful? Because everyone can and should learn something about this moment in history. It says so much about humanity.

If the producers read this... someone should do a documentary on Paulus. I want to know what became of him after the war.

Clerks II (2006)
Some of the acting just sucked
5 December 2006
Warning: Spoilers
I guess I didn't notice so much in the original movie. The "low-budgetness" of Clerks made it charming and a person was able to overlook the a lack of acting talent.

"Spoiler"

It's too bad Brian O'Halloran can't act... it kind of ruined the entire Clerks II for me. I am sure Brian is a nice guy, he definitely has screen charisma... but Kevin Smith should have tried harder to get more out of this actor. Isn't it the director's job to make sure the performances are believable? It was like watching someone try to lie.

The Jeffersons (1975–1985)
Isn't it weird.... ?
17 September 2006
Isn't it weird that George Jefferson is supposed to be a wealthy man who owns 13 dry-cleaning stores.... however his apartment is no where near as nice or large as "Frasiers" (a radio talk-show host) or the "Friends" apartment. In fact, the Jefferson's apartment is really small and cheap looking. A burlap couch... the dining room is connected to the living room (of course so is Frasier's)... aluminum sliding glass doors.

But someone who is "Moving on up" and owns 13 stores would have something nicer than this wouldn't they? All I am saying is, the Jefferson's apartment looks kind of "working class" to me.

Firewall (2006)

Ransom?.... no it's "Firewall"
9 August 2006
Oh my God. The movie was everything bad I expected. To begin with there is this over-dramatic music through out the entire movie. Even when Harrison Ford is just walking down a hallway. This genre has been hacked and hacked to death. Technological thrillers are nothing new and "Firewall" offers nothing new. This is "Swordfish" meets "Ransom". It is a pathetic movie. Harrison Ford is starting to look like a man in his sixties. In the movie he is married to a woman who looks to be in her early thirties. The woman looks half his age.

I remember when I was in the 10th grade and I first learned about fore-shadowing. Now we call it a "plot device". This movie is full of plot devices (remote-control car). So to predict the ending... one simply has to watch the first 1/3 of the movie. There is nothing clever or interesting about the end. Get this... cop cars even pull up in the last seconds. I bet you haven't seen a movie where a police arrive just at the end?

So I guess Harrison Ford is done. We are all just waiting for "Indiana Jones IV".
