Life on Mars (2006)
Great series, disappointing ending
Life on Mars has been a brilliant quality series which has kept me and my family watching every episode. The individual episode's stories have been interesting but the main thing that really keeps me hooked is the underlying tale. Will he or won't he return to 2006?
Disappointingly, we are still asking this question after the last episode. It does not come to a real conclusion. It instead opens up for the next series. I am frustrated but looking forward to next year.
There is some mixed acting, Philip Glenister as Gene is superb but John Simm is lacklustre. You begin to get sick of his voice after a while.
It is nice to see some quality TV once in a while, especially on a Monday and this series hits the spot.
8/10
San Francisco Rush: Extreme Racing (1996)
It's dangerous! Don't play it!
Okay, there's not a single comment on this game but I'll do it any way just to display my hilarity at this awful thing.
You can't expect anything by Midway to be much good with its corny sound effects and unrealistic physics. San Francisco Rush is a prime example of this rubbishness.
Right from the word "Rush" you can tell that this game was not made properly. The cars are incredibly hard to drive and a slight scrape of the side will make you explode in an impossibly large fireball. The cars are all the same apart from the looks. Watch out for the EXTREME car, its dangerous!Waa! At the end of your frustrating race and after blowing up 11 times you move on to the next track. Ah, more sharp turns and invisible walls, lovely. Don't worry though, there's only 6 tracks.
The only thing extreme about this game is the sound. You might as well play this game in mute, or even better not at all.
Perfect Dark Zero (2005)
A very good FPS but has a few annoying features
You can tell that they really tried hard with this game. Its a fun, frantic and detailed game that will keep me playing for some time. The graphics are amazing and still keeps this up on Xbox Live. It has an impressive arsenal of weapons of course and it shouldn't be hard to find your favourite.
It is not without flaws however. The physics may be good but the movement of your character is not realistic and sometimes you might find yourself struggling with the controls to turn quicker. It is surprisingly difficult to aim too which is irritating, especially when you've seen the enemy first.
As a complete game, 1 player mode is worth completing and has a decent story. Just try to ignore the terrible voice-overs! Xbox Live is fun too but challenging.
The Master of Disguise (2002)
Just embarrassing to watch
It is a mystery to why I bothered even watching this film because I knew perfectly well that any film shown at 3 o'clock is not going to be remotely entertaining. For a lack of anything better to do (this has to be the only reason for anyone watching it), I sat down and tried to take in this tripe.
First of all, it is obvious that it is trying too hard to be funny and is blatantly copying features of respectable films e.g. SHREK and THE EXORCIST. Punchlines are too obvious, these half-baked jokes are unbearable and you wonder if the producers even bothered thinking about how the plot works. Also, someone in the production is totally obsessed with slapping people.
I feel pity on the main character for being so embarrassing. He deserves better! Even though I have been only exposed to mostly decent films, this has to be one of the worst movies of all time.
Corpse Bride (2005)
Good quality kids film
This is a moody, atmospheric film which is very similar to other Tim Burton films but this has obviously been lightened up a little bit for children. The musical element was nice but unnecessary. It has some sparkles of humour but I felt it was not quite enough to keep me entertained. It was a very original story full of little surprises. However, it probably required more depth to the plot.
It is full of top quality animation, visually comparable to Pixar and the unique characters in the town and also in the underworld are extremely lovable.
The only other similar films like this are again from the imagination of Burton so you are sure to like others by him if you liked Corpse Bride.
Overall, it is a good quality kids film that could keep them occupied for an hour or two.
