The Ruins (2008)
Another pile of crap from cheap Hollywood
This is one of the all-around worst movies I have ever seen in the theater. All "The Ruins" proved to be was several re-hashed ideas from other bad horror movies over the last decade.
Without giving much of the story away, imagine a 90 minute play combining Cabin Fever, Touristas, and Hostel where there is only about 4 pages of scripted dialog, no opportunity for the audience to connect with the characters, and no good resolution in the end.
This kind of film has become a disturbing trend in the industry and has unfortunately led the horror genre into more of a "shock horror" line of crap designed to gross out the viewer. Little attention is paid to the story, characters, or even direction. The goal is strictly to use special effects to make the audience squirm in their seat. While one scene did accomplish this, it came well short of making the experience worth while.
I was warned about the quality of this film before I bought the ticket, but I didn't listen. Since I had two hours to kill and like horror movies, I thought "how bad can this be?" The answer: pretty damn bad.
Mansquito (2005)
fantastic for insanity
This is an awful film. There is very little that is at all appealing for this movie, but if you are willing to take a film and create a drinking game to it, this has fantastic possibilities. The most interesting part is that the back of the DVD suggests that there is a completely different plot than the film in fact creates. Not even close. There is some crazy killing and highly humorous activity that ends in a highly disappointing way. The only real complaint for a person that is ready for unintentional humor is how we are mislead. This movie is worth watching, but for only the rare few that are willing to take a punch to the mouth and accept the craziness. Watch it with absurd expectations.
The Weekend It Lives (1992)
Warrents an "F" at any film school
I don't know how this piece of crap ever got funding to begin with. Other posters have correctly noted the awful film quality; it is grainy and the cuts to other scenes are harsh. In addition, there is no real plot, at least not one that hasn't been recycled 47 times before. Killer on the loose; run away in the woods.
Over all, it looks to me like this was some poor kid's film school final project. The trouble is that he was attending a 5th rate film school and got an F and now works at a Burger King.
This movie is only worth your time if you enjoy watching absolute garbage like I do.
