Masterful Storytelling
4 January 2021
In a span of 8 episodes, this film talked about issues regarding LGBTQIA+ community. This is commendable because it didn't compromise the flow of the story. It really shows how masterful Juan Miguel Severro is!

Some of the issues talked here are:
  • Performative Allyship
  • Internal homophobia
  • A role of a single mother (Feminism, as it is also intertwined with LGBTQIA+ struggles)
  • Artist's compensation (Galing nito HAHA)
  • Coming Out

Also I love how there are easter eggs surrounding this series sobrang cute! HAHAHA.

Breath of fresh air
3 May 2020
I know netflix films has a reputation but this film was good and a breath of fresh air. I love the friendship of Paul and Ellie, comedic and fun. A coming of age romantic comedy film that stayed true to its purpose--discovering one's sexuality, purpose and self in that stage of life. All of this combined and not just on heteronormative way of looking at things.

For the most part, I don't need a second film for this because we all know they'll meet in a couple of years. Plus, if they do make a second film, they're just going to milk this and spoil what the film was rooting for. They'll meet in a couple of years. She's an ARTIST. There's no artists that's 100% straight.

Proper credit and heartfelt tribute.
3 April 2020
This film reminded me of 'Ekstra' (Jadaone is one of the writers of this film) which tells the harsh realities of being a bit-player. (A great film too!)

In this mockumentary, it shows that Lilia Cuntapay is so underappreciated as an actress. She's been typecasted to play ghosts for horror movies, only playing bit-player roles. Despite this, she managed to be an icon, gathering the name "Queen of philippine horror movies".

The film sends a compelling message about privilege. Nonetheless, this film cemented her name and will surely be there forever, like a ghost (hahaha).

Thank you for the director for at least, once, the spotlight is focused on her, she genuinely deserved it.

Ending.
28 March 2020
Warning: Spoilers
The actresses were okay. The visuals of the scene is nicely done. However, it felt like the film was trying so hard to sell a plot twist but at the expense of having a good story. Explicit and just screams WLW through male gaze.

Instead of having an arc or any development, it regressed and even stooping itself to nothing.

"Why did you kill your father?" "There's nothing to do in the mountains"

The movie is like the ending, it takes you nowhere.

The only thing that shocked me is how they're both psychopaths!? Then with me rolling my eyes because c'mon, it's tiring to see lesbian-psychopaths storylines, don't you think? It shocked me, cause just as I thought it was bad, it only got worse.

Overall, it's good. But story is KING and the story here is nothing.

So many problems but hey I guess eating non-nutritional objects will make up for it.

Unresolved feelings will only manifest later in life and this movie portrayed that. All her life, she have been objectified and dictated by this patriarchal society. Eating things is her way to compensate for all these feelings and frustration. Didn't expect that much but man, this movie ATE.

Bar Boys

Warning: Spoilers
Upon watching it, I thought this was just going to be a typical story about privileged kids going to law school (which it is BUT not all). It explored four different people with different backgrounds finding their purpose in life. It shows how rigorous law school is and how sacrifice play a big role in it. Relationships, friendships, time and family are highlighted in this film. Would rate more stars but I still find it somewhat lacking. Perhaps a focus on their other friend who didn't go to law school? Him implying that they have no principles and criticizing (maybe joking) na "kinain na sila ng sistema" which would have spark a discussion.

Animation saved it.
14 March 2020
It tries so hard to have a laughable humor but the theme of the movie is good. The redo of sonic's animation surely is good. Credit to all the animators who worked on it despite the initial response. Tells something about friendship and belongingness. Overall, it's not much but it's honest work.

Watch Me Kill (2019)

A lot to see
14 March 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Watch me kill seems influenced by the west. Nevertheless, it didn't fail to associate itself with the Filipino context.

Moments I took note was Lourdes was the real name of the child yet she was named aurora. The two names have different meanings. Lourdes is a name referring to the virgin Mary. While Aurora is of Latin origin which means "dawn". Consequently, ever since Luciana met Aurora the color yellow was subtly present in-frame. Additionally, it is noteworthy that prior to their meeting, the color red is more present in the film. Perhaps, this signifies a transition in the character of Jean Garcia.

Overall, the cinematography of this film is well-thought. Furthermore, she sees herself in Aurora which I think foreshadows that she's the little girl. I thoroughly enjoyed this film. Although it may give all the reasons for its twist and may seem predictable, I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Not Bad!
13 March 2020
The graphics is top-notch. Acting is good. Some loopholes can be found. Overall, not bad for a DC film. Removed two stars because there's an abuser in the cast

So much potential yet failed to deliver
13 March 2020
I'm all for some lgbt romance but this isn't it. I'm sorry, As much as I want to root for them, it's romanticizing cheating. While it is good to discover your sexuality, you can do it by not hurting others. Plus, I don't like how there are so many sex scenes which I'm sure is catering to the male gaze. The only time I've seen them have a genuine conversation was one time! I don't know I used to like this film but after realizing this. It just left me disappointed.

My cup of tea

It is so much better to dive into this knowing nothing. I only watched the trailer prior to the movie and it shocked me after. Everything is stitched to perfection. Great commentary on society.

Gaze that captures you
12 March 2020
I cannot put into words how this film made me feel. The film is like a slow ride during a road trip. Everything is so gentle yet intense. Because you know, once you arrived at your destination, you're travel time is as short as your stay.

Binge-watch worthy
12 March 2020
This series has a lot of potential. With only 7 episodes, it's enough to fall in love with the characters and ask more from them. Some scenes are predictable but the scene itself is worthy to make a point. Quirky and enjoyable.
