Open to It (2022)
Fantastic comedy!
Open To It has what we all want in a show - a lot of heart and a lot of laughs with a little steaminess thrown in for good measure!
The writing is slick and clever, the performances are all top notch, it looks fantastic, and the production values are extremely impressive.
What I particularly loved the most about Open To It was the way it tackled what can in some circumstances be an emotionally fraught issue -- the idea of, well, opening up one's relationship -- and treats it with the sincerity it deserved while at the same time never shying away from a good bit of slapstick or well-intentioned snarky comedy.
Watching this put such a smile on my face. Highly recommend.
Swallowed (2022)
Creepy as hell and beautifully executed!
I can't get this film out of my mind. With indie film (well, with any film but especially indie,) there is SO MUCH that can go wrong. But through the miracle of film, everything snapped into place with Swallowed. The writing, direction, performances, and cinematography were all top notch. With the short film Bugcrush and now Swallowed, I'm hoping to see more films set in this universe - it's exactly what I as a queer horror fan want!
Cooper Koch and Jose Colon have fantastic chemistry, Mark Patton makes an exquisite scenery-chewing villain, and Jena Malone is fabulous and magnetic as a gun-toting drug runner. Such a fabulous cast.
(I rented this movie twice, then just decided to buy it. It's that good.)
