Devi (2002)
Great Indian Serial
Devi is one of the best Indian serials you will ever watch. The serial is about Gayatri (Sakshi Tanwar) who is a staunch devotee of Mataji. She is an orphan and lives with her Mama and Mami. Her Mami is not fond of Gayatri at all and uses her to gain status for her business. She gets her married to Vikram(Mohnish Behl) who is the son of a great business man. Vikram is a spoiled individual who thinks of Gayatri's faith in Mataji as joke. The situation becomes worst as Vikram's dad gives ownership of the business to Gayatri instead of him. Vikram plots to take revenge on Gayatri and lies to her by taking her on a pilgrimage to Vaishno Devi and getting rid of her there. Innocent Gayatri falls for Vikram's lies and during their pilgrimage Gayatri is pushed of the hill and Vikram returns home to find that Gayatri as already returned before him. However Vikram knows this women claiming to be Gayatri is an impostor but is not able to reveal who she really is. If you want to know the rest you will have to watch the repeats on Sony. I think Sakshi Tanwar is a great actress and she portrayed the role Gayatri really well. I also want to mention like the majority of the television serials this one to becomes pro longed and Sakshi Tanwar ends up leaving the show with Juhi Parmar replacing her. Since this change, the show does go downhill and eventually is concluded but before these changes this show was amazing.
Haisiyat (1984)
Jaya at her best
Entertaining film with Jayaprada at her best. Jayaprada portrays a strong business woman character who is managing her family business. She meets Jeetendra and falls for him and later discovers that he is one of the employees who works for her. They get married and Jaya has to portray 2 lives, one of the housewife and when she is at work she has to be Jeetendra's boss. Eventually this catches up to her and she is no longer to play the dedicated housewife because of work issues. If you are Jaya fan I highly recommend you watch this film. Jaya looks amazing throughout the movie. Jeetendra also plays a very strong role and makes a good pair with Jayaprada on screen.
Sargam (1979)
Jayaprada's Debut
I fell in love with Jayaprada after seeing this film.... I can honestly say that I have probably seen Sargam over 100 times... The songs are amazing and Jaya was just remarkable... Throughout the whole film she portrayed a mute character and she expressed her acting skills through her body language... This was also her first debut into Hindi Cinema and after this film she made her entry into Bollywood... Rishi Kapoor's role in the film was great as well...
The Dafli Wale song has become so popular that even today its heard over and over again.. I am sure you will enjoy this movie as well and I Highly recommend you check it out...
Mawaali (1983)
Jeetu in Double Role
This is another great 80's movies that I recommend everyone check out. We have Jeetendra in a double role where he is playing the professional engineer and the drunk mawali. The movie starts off with Ramesh (Jeetu) falling in love with his boss's daughter Nisha (Jayapradha) and Gangu (Jeetu as well) falling in love with Julie (Sridevi). Both Gangu and Ramesh face great obstacles throughout the movie and after realizing that they are twin brothers they work as a team to defeat the bad guys. The movie is jammed back with great songs and dances and of course great comedy coming from Kader Khan, Aruna Irani and Shakti Kapoor. Some of the songs you have to check out are Ui Amma, Ramma Ramma Re, Ek Ek Do Do Teen Teen.
Pataal Bhairavi (1985)
The Ramayan Retold -
This mythological/fantasy film is based on the great story of the Ramayam. The story begins with Ramu who falls in love with the Rajkumari from Ujjain Indumati. Furthermore, the both of them want to get married but of course we have the peasant marrying the princess issue arising and Ramu seeks the help of Mantrik to grant him luxuries. Ramu eventually discovers that Mantriks intentions are not well so Ramu pleases the Pataal Bhairavi goddess and she grants him his luxuries. The story takes another turn and we have the Evil mantrik kidnapping the rajkumari and off course Ramu and Hamuman team up to rescue her. The main reason I am giving this movie 8/10 is for the fact that Jayaprada looks great in all dance sequences.
Gaai Aur Gori (1973)
Excellent Movie
This is one of the greatest performances Jaya Bhaduri has done. She is the fun loving village girl who is devoted to her cow (Lakshmi,)whom is more then just an ordinary cow but her best friend. Eventually, what ends up happening is that Jaya Bhaduri ends up marrying Satrughan Sinha and is forced to give up Lakshmi. The story continues on and Jaya is faced with numerous obstacles in her life brought on by her husband. Furthermore, like any typical Indian movie after so much drama Jaya and Lakshmi finally reunite again. This is one of Jaya Bhaduri's greatest performances and if you enjoyed Mili, Uphaar, Shor and Guddi you will certainly like this movie.
Woh Phir Aayegi (1988)
Definite Hindi film to check out!!!
This is one of the few Hindi horror movies with an alright story line. We have the main character Aarti( Farha) who is possessed by a spirit Asha (Moon Moon Sen) to take revenge on those who have taken part in ruining her life. Furthermore, the story goes on and Aarti faces dilemmas because she is living double lifestyles and her family and friends notice that she is no longer the simple village girl Aarti but she is behaving like someone else. I am giving this movie an 8/10 because I have seen past Hindi horror films and the majority of them are truly cheesy but this one I recommend. It's not a scary horror film where you get petrified but a film that is interesting to watch. I think they ruined the end of the movie with the Jadu Tona stuff but Farha has given her best performance to date and proves that she is one of the few actresses that can act.
Sindoor (1987)
Great cast and great film!!!
This is an excellent movie from the 80's with a great multi cast. I recommend everyone watch this film even though its been outdated. Jayaprada's performance is absolutely great and she does an excellent job playing her role both has the mother and dedicated wife. The story line is not your typical bad guy vs good guy but about the sacrifices a women makes and how she is misunderstood just to keep a promise.
The film also has excellent soundtracks and great dance performances from Govinda and Neelam whom were a trendy pair during that era. This is also the first time you will see Shashi Kappoor and Jayaprada both paired together.
Sanjog (1985)
A Magnificent Film!!!!!
This is one of the best films I have seen from the 80's. Jayaprada does a remarkable job in the film playing both the mother and daughter. This film proves her talent and what a great actress she really is. Of course with Jayaprada her lead supporting actor is one and only Jeetendra. His performance in the movie was also great. He plays the role of the husband and later on the father. The movie starts off showing how Asha (Jayaprada) is leaving with her son from India to move to the states with her husband. However before she leaves her guardians make her visit her uncle (Jeetendra) to get his blessings. When Asha reaches her uncle's house she realizes that her guardians are not her real parents but her uncle (Jeetendra) is her real dad. She also discovers that her real mother Yashoda (Jayaprada)is mentally ill and is currently residing in a mental institution. To find out the rest of the story you have to watch the film. The story line is different from the ordinary and you will definitely enjoy it.
