It (2017)
Average and Disappointing
I was expecting an engrossing story, what I got was ineffective jump scares and seemingly random scenes. The whole storyline is here and there, I did not care much for the characters and did not find the story at all easy to follow. I have given 4 stars as the acting and production quality are good, but the actual experience is an ordinary one. The original is MUCH better.
The Good Place (2016)
Rubbish
A good concept, ruined. No redeeming characters, all stereotypes and the central character your typical loud mouthed, selfish American. This is one project Netflix is likely ashamed of creatively, but hey, if people are watching it then who cares about artistic integrity? Truly awful.
Ant-Man (2015)
Nothing New
No surprises and and almost no originality, otherwise it's OK.
Each and every 'super hero' film is the same now. Villain wants to conquer the world but Americans come to the rescue. This is exactly that, along with the obligatory family/down on his luck/rescue formula.
Some good action sequences but that is all that makes this 'different' from all of the other films in this genre. Good fun to watch but nothing original nor worthwhile.
Hall Pass (2011)
Shockingly Poor
Depressing how useless, low movies like this still get made. The Farrelly Bros and entire cast are clearly just milking the Hollywood cash cow. Pathetic attempt at comedy with no redeeming characters. The best line in the whole film is where one of the wives says 'this is why the terrorists hate us'.
A truly poor poor fim.
Moonlight (2016)
Painfully Overrated
I am baffled as to why this has received so many high reviews. Yes it was pleasant but frankly it is hyped because it is about a black person. Yes I am all for equality but wow this film is truly over rated. I can only imagine how bad the other nominated films were if this won the award. Also, it is disappointing that a black actor wins the Best Supporting Actor Oscar when playing a drug dealer. Equality? Please......
Hindi Medium (2017)
Truly Great
AT LAST! A rare, truly emotive gem which shines a light on the social conditions many in India face each day. It takes heavy subjects but approaches them light heartedly at times (plenty of running jokes) and brilliantly, which allows you to understand the important messages clearly. The story is beautifully told from different aspects whilst seamlessly dealing with the heavy themes. Each character has great chemistry and I was fully engaged throughout. I laughed, swore, got angry, emotional, worried and those are just the reactions I remember. We need more films like this which tell a real, relatable story. Such a shame it has taken so long for India to realise how important these stories are, let's have more!
