The Best of Me (2014)
This story was AWFUL!!
I love a good romance movie but this was ridiculous. The whole thing was predictable and a mess. I fast forwarded through most of it hoping it would get better. Nope! The book was even worse. Sometimes I wonder why anyone would choose a story like this to make a movie from a famous author? Some authors can't write good stories and it would be a good idea to screen these ideas first. The Notebook movie boosted sales of the book. The book was wordy and confusing but I read it through and it was ok. If anyone decides The Best of Me was a good movie, I won't judge you. Everyone's taste is different. For me, I didn't like it.
The Longest Ride (2015)
Beautiful romance!
There was nothing wrong with this story/movie. The actors were great and the back story of the older man was so touching. Love, going through adversity, growing old together, heartbreak, and closeness. This movie had it all!
I love a good Sparks movie with a blanket and my cat near by. Many people have opinions about his books and movies but they're just stories, pure fiction. I love a decent romance story and that may be because I am a romance novelist. I pay attention to the details and touching moments. Accuracy and emotion are crucial to get you hooked to the story. Some people can't see the fiction and expect things to be too real. This movie had it all for me!
The Choice (2016)
What's with the bad reviews? It's fiction!
I loved this movie. I read the book and it was hard to follow. Yes, it's not consistent with the novel but you can only squeeze so much dialogue into a movie. The book was wordy and it was okay. I think the movie was better. There were some unrealistic moments but it's just a story. I agree that accuracy does count. I'm a romance novelist and research is key. They could have worked on that. But oh well, it's entertainment. I enjoy movies like this. Since I write clean romances, (not a sappy hallmark novelist) I love sweet romance movies. I am a Sparks fan on some of his books. I've read a lot of them. I love his movies for sure!
Safe Haven (2013)
My kind of suspense. I loved it
I loved this movie. The book was very intense and graphic. I love the romance and chemistry. Katie learned to trust and she adapted to the lifestyle she just dreamed about. It seems as though Katie is slowly healing from the abuse she's been through by getting to know Alex. The kids are missing someone they love but accept Katie in their life.
I write fiction so I understand there may be a few unrealistic expectations. That's okay. As a writer I have focused more on the plot than those details. The story is good. If you read the book, Kevin is a total psychotic abuser who is controlling. The movie is a spoiler for the book. A great date night movie!
Spinning Out (2020)
This has bad acting! Simply awful!!
I thought I would give this a chance but this was horrible to watch. Bad acting, triggering for anyone who deals with eating disorders, self-abuse, and bi polar disorder. The mother in this story was so abusive and it was heartbreaking seeing how she treated her daughters. This story tries to portray the negative side of ice skating. There is nothing positive about this series. Why does Netflix think this was worth giving a try? Disturbing subjects like this are a waste of time. Why would anyone give this a high rating?
This kind of entertainment should not be allowed. I can see why Netflix canceled the show after 1 season.
Virgin River: Fire and Rain (2022)
I love Virgin River, but accuracy helps the story
Legally grandparents do not have rights unless it is issued by the courts to accept the grandparents as guardians to take away custody to any parent that is unfit or abusive. This is obviously just a fictional plot to the drama.
Virgin River: The Long Goodbye (2022)
Be more realistic!
So many questions. If Mel became pregnant with her dead husband's baby, wouldn't the IVF procedure see she was already pregnant with Jack's baby? Wouldn't they tell her, 'you're already pregnant?' Charmaine is in a possible abusive relationship and she confesses that the babies aren't Jack's? Who does that? That was an inappropriate time to confess something like that, almost traumatic. There is so much unrealistic drama.
