The Pepsi-Cola Playhouse: Too Gloomy for Private Puskin (1954)
Episode 18, Season 1
A strong cast and a great story
25 December 2006
I first saw "Too gloomy for Private Pushkin" when it was aired on BBC TV in the UK during the mid fifties. The story, from a series which pr-dated The Twilight Zone, dealt with a patrol of WW2 American infantrymen reconnoitring a ruined château occupied by Nazi troops, and, as I recall, had a superb, chilling twist in the tail. The storyline was very much 'of it's time' attempting to give some solace to a generation that had suffered loss during WW2. As a fan of one of the lead actors, Steve Brodie, I have always believed him to be one of the first rate performers, generally given little or no credit, employed purely to make the 'stars' look good.
