Days Like These (2022– )

Could have been so much better.
2 September 2023
I stumbled upon this recently when channel skipping and saw the rest (except for ep 1 which was no longer available) on ABC iview.

The concept is sound, each ep discusses a concert by a band or artist. Of course some bands are more interesting than others.

The ep I caught on TV was Rose Tattoo which turned out to be the most interesting band interviewed. The Eurogliders despite being great musically were the most boring.

A lot of the time it is just the same people in the eps talking about other bands and it becomes a bit of a love fest.

What made me cringe is the host Diesel has an ep of his own concert and also 2 eps are devoted to his brother in law Jimmy Barnes, one for Jimmy's solo career and one for the band Cold Chisel.

It would have been great to have an ep on the Divinyls but I guess Chrissie being sadly RIP that may have been difficult or not considered a good idea for whatever reason.

Although the eps are mostly enjoyable they are also shallow and nothing much is really gained from the experience. Still a great idea though and would love to see more attempts at this kind of thing.

Bad pacing, poor casting of Claire and zero chemistry between the leads.
3 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I love the film version and would like to read the book one day.

They waste a lot of time with the story in this series. It starts off promising but gets lost around episode 3. Did they decide they might try for an ongoing series?

The character Gomez is annoying and rather unlikely in how he turns up to save the day.

Rose Leslie as a romantic lead doesn't work too well. She is harsh looking and seems more sexually aggressive than soft and romantic. The actress who plays Claire's sister would have been far better suited.

Having so many Henry's running around in time seems rather extreme even for what is a sci fi fantasy plot and if he has no control over where and when he appears than how is it he appears so often in the woods behind Claire's parents house?

A lot more planning should have gone into this. It would have worked better as a self contained mini series and the finale was terrible.

News just in, show has been cancelled now anyway.

The Djinn (2021)

A really dumb film.
18 July 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The films starts off with some potential. A kid who is mute is left alone by his father, his mother committed suicide for reasons never explained. Kid finds a magic book and decides to evoke a spell only to summon a Djinn of the film's title.

But wait, there were warnings that the Djinn is not nice! Luckily the Djinn stirs up memories of the alien in "Signs" who can be trapped in a kitchen pantry! The Djinn appears to be easily beaten by the kid time after time even when he has the kid pinned to the floor!

And then the film just kind of ends. The moral being "Be careful what you wish for" or perhaps just don't summon Djinn's?

The Good Sulk.
30 September 2020
Given the Good Wife had some fun and likeable characters I was expecting similar from this show. But there just isn't. Not one character is likeable, even characters that were in the Good Wife are now either boring or just one dimensional.

And the politics! Yes, Trump won, get over it people! The way they go on and on, the Diane character behaving like a sulking college student, hoping her boyfriend didn't vote for Trump!

The stories around Trump are just ludicrous and so infantile. Not to mention the SJW politics in general. So boring.

Meh, boring rather than scary or interesting.

Maybe these types of shows were never that great to begin with. I liked the little comic book flourishes but overall the stories were dull and obvious. Won't be continuing.

Carol's Second Act (2019–2020)

Cheap and nasty old school style sitcom.
27 September 2019
Warning: Spoilers
From the first second there is just a cheap feel to it all. The cast look awkward and the writing is shocking. Patricia Heaton exits the elevator and the canned applause starts Happy Days style. She hasn't done or said anything yet, obviously we are meant to be excited that she has arrived! I lost what was left of my interest at that point.

I'm out.

Watched this due to the positive reviews. They are all liars!
30 April 2019
Or maybe are the film crew and their relatives or just have plain bad taste.

As mentioned, when I first decided to watch this film it was rated at 7.5 it is now a more realistic 4.9 but it still deserves much lower.

The film starts off promising but it declines early on. The acting is atrocious and the quality of the cinematography is more akin to a group of friends making their own film in their spare time.

The ending is absolute nonsense and given this mess of a movie is dedicated to service personnel is disgraceful rather than a tribute.

Just don't bother with this nonsense.

The Twilight Zone (2019–2020)

Dumbed down for today's PC mind.
21 April 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I was a little excited when I saw that the Twilight Zone was coming back. I was also worried because I feared they might make it very PC and dumb it all down. Not to mention missing the whole point of the show.

I have made it to episode 4 so far and won't bother going further. Just because theme of "The Twilight Zone" is supposed to be some kind of twist or irony it doesn't mean the story can just be plain stupid.

That is the other problem at play here. In these stories there aren't any twists or ironies. In Ep 3 creativity is sacrificed for the sake of a Black Lives Matter rant. There is so much that could have been done with that story line, the fact that the main female actor was behaving more and more suspicious thus alerting the cop when there may have been no cause for alert at all.

The 4th ep where nothing happens.

The first 2 eps where nothing happens.

Perhaps the irony is we are really living in the Twilight Zone where creativity is dead yet there are more films and shows than ever.

What a mess.
5 January 2019
So I finally watched this film which I had heard so many bad things about. Lets see..

1/ Setting it in the modern world was a big mistake and robbed a lot of the mystery and romance from it.

2/ At times the movie looks more like The Walking Dead than a Mummy film.

3/ What is with throwing Dr Jekkyl and Mr Hyde in it, and played the by ever pompous and dull Russell Crowe?

4/ Some of the stunts are silly, would a C-130 really induce a zero gravity effect even if it were diving?

No thanks it is just all too boring and senesless.

Doesn't live up to it's own ambition.
15 December 2018
You get the sense that we are meant to walk away from this film thinking it was something really special. Lange even won an Oscar for playing the bi polar slutty housewife.

I can't help but feel that it all falls apart, especially in the second half. Things get wrapped up far too quickly and easily, nothing though is really resolved, especially in a realistic manner.

In the end it's another film that leaves you wanting to watch something good.

Idiocracy (2006)

President Comacho = Obama.
15 December 2018
I am not sure if they could make this film anymore. There are too many Red Pill truths being dropped here. You have a society that has been dumbed down to the point where an averagely intelligent person from the past pops up and manages to lead the way.

The most interesting character for me is President Comacho, he is a loud mouthed, flash, nonsense talking black guy who is President. He never says anything of any real value but people applaud all the same. They love him because he says he is great.

Reminds me so much of Obama and his silly speeches where people would applaud because you can't possibly criticize the black man, right?

Maybe Idiocracy is already here?

Victoria (2016–2019)

Classic example of modern feminism playing both sides of the coin.
15 December 2018
Victoria is, well Queen of England. Like any young person she is out of her depth and does not have a very supportive family.

Politicians try and support her and to obviously curry favour. That is something which would happen to a King just as easily, especially a young King.

And therein lies the problem, everything that happens to Victoria is presented in a way that suggests it is because she is female. It couldn't just be a case of... politics being played out?

We also have to endure all the usual modern day SJW causes being thrown into a different time as well.

Oh well, poor Vicky, so wealthy and powerful and yet apparently oppressed....

15 December 2018
Although an adequate film it is still rather boring without any real surprises or innovations. Once it ended I didn't care at all.

Good performances and a promising story line but it was still all dead on delivery. Although a film noir it still has nothing on the classic film noir era.

I think I lasted 10 minutes...
30 October 2018
...so due to that this will be a short review.

It starts off with aircraft in flight but it looks like a cheap video game, honestly I would have preferred balsa wood models at least they would have looked real.

Then the Chinese start talking and it is overdubbed in the standard no expression at all over dub voice.

I can't recall if I saw Bruce Willis or not.

It wouldn't have mattered. A total turkey of a film. I guess this is why Hollywood are trying to sell themselves to China.

Supernatural (2005–2020)
5/10
Was great at first but like many shows will be run into the ground rather than end properly.
26 October 2018
America has a way of running shows into the ground rather than let them play out a story arc and end them properly and on a high.

Supernatural was great for the first 5 or so seasons, after that it lost it's way many times. It has become repetitive as well. How many more times are one of the boys going to be possessed/become evil or get banished to some kind of hell? It just keeps happening over and over.

Why do we need the long boring story arcs? I would be just as happy with the original monster of the week stories.

And how about more funny? The crazy episodes they did were always my favourite, recently the Scooby Doo inspired one was great.

Keep it funny guys and stop trying to be so damn serious all the time. It has become boring.

Bull (2016–2022)

NCIS was ruined so Michael could do this?
26 October 2018
I really liked the DiNozzo character on NCIS and so when Michael left it has caused a huge gap which they still can't fill. In fact the show is boring without him.

That said, "Bull" is terrible. Not only do we see the same story every show it just isn't anywhere near as intelligent as it likes to think it is.

The worst aspect of the show is you can tell you are watching a TV program. Example: Bull rides into a small town with his crew. Cue oddball local (yokal?) who just happens to know him, seconds after that a pick up stops and the hot chick driver yells out to him. She knows him too.

And so the tried and true and very boring formula goes on and on. Sometimes the episodes aren't even about the cases, they are just padded out with crap.

No thanks.

Someone needs to sweep Will Smith's leg.
20 October 2018
As a lover of the original film I was very disappointed in this terrible remake. There really isn't much to say. It isn't even Karate that is being practiced.

Not to mention Will Smith's brat of a kid is so obnoxious you want him to get the snot beat out of him.

Watch the original and Cobra Kai instead.

Forrest Gump (1994)

An idealized walk down memory lane for baby boomers.
6 October 2018
Warning: Spoilers
A simple minded, or perhaps straight up retarded Southerner flukes his way through life. That in itself may have been ok-ish as a premise. But it isn't enough for this film, not only does Forrest fluke his way through life he also witnesses or even engages in major parts of history as well as meeting key people of the era.

Oh, he also instigates some of the biggest trends as well. The smiley face t shirt, the s**t happens slogan.

The most interesting part or theme of the film for me is his undying love for his childhood sweetheart Jenny or "Jenn-ay" as our bumbling hero pronounces it. Despite him chasing her throughout the film she beds anything that moves as well getting involved in all the moronic Liberal causes, picks up a drug habit and when she has lost her looks she comes back to Ol' Forrest and finally beds him after she turns down his proposal.

Apparently Forrest isn't very smart but he "knows what love is". Well, maybe he does but she is a manipulative bitch. After sleeping with him she runs away yet again. Then a few years later she invites him to her place and tells him that he has a kid! He believes it of course and the reason she tells him is she is dying.

Ain't love grand?

The idiot accepts it and takes custody of the kid after she dies. So he has millions but zero in the sense of smarts.

A film which is meant to be heart warming but I found was cynical in many ways.

Starts off good doesn't last for long though.
5 October 2018
Warning: Spoilers
What starts off as a good and slightly different modern Western revenge film quickly turns into some kind of horror/slasher flick by the start of Season 2. The downfall is a character called "The Swede" even though he is Norwegian.

It seems that this man has super human powers and just won't die. The show loses track of it's original premise, also killing off most of it's more interesting female characters along the way.

By the time The Swede finally gets taken care of I called it quits. The show for me had ended and I wasn't interested even though there was most of the final season to go.

Full of boring PC lecturing too. Never helps.

Paranormal Lockdown (2016– )

Paranormal Letdown
2 October 2018
Nick always struck me as the deeper more intelligent one on Ghost Adventures. I guess that is because Zack just dominated and the little we saw of the other 2 speak I just got a limited amount of information to base my perception on.

Watching this I can see I was wrong and there aren't any deep or intelligent people on GA or this show. Katina is nice to look at but even she seems a little lost in this show. I think she may want something better.

It seems every episode a ghost calls out their names?! Ok... despite having a 24 hour lockdown they still sleep? What is the point in that exactly?

The EVP's are just garbled noise but they force a meaning out of it regardless.

I did get a laugh though in one episode where Nick hears coyotes and runs off leaving Katrina in his dust. Brave Nick.

Used to scare the heck out of me!
2 October 2018
When I first started watching this show I was terrified and compelled at the same time. Sure, I knew it was probably being faked but it was interesting all the same.

It was like a boys own adventure. 3 men spend a night in a haunted location. It was simple but worked.

Over time though that seemed too simple. They had to mess with the formula. One of the team left. Zack took on more of a prominent role, talking over people, repeating things back as if they were more complicated than they really were.

The real death knell for me was the "Control Centre". No longer did they spend the whole night gathering evidence and reviewing it back later. Now they would catch something and then run back to the Control Centre and review it there. Ummmmm hello, if you did catch anything at all it would be gone by the time you got back!

And I guess that is when I couldn't suspend my disbelief anymore. If they were really serious and really gathering this evidence than why wouldn't you stay in the area and keep trying to exploit it?

And why has the amount of "evidence" declined over the seasons? Are they being more careful now about faking things?

Why are they still acting like rookies on their first mission when by now they should be a lot calmer and more used to being in dark eerie places?

What are they?
1 October 2018
I don't get this show. For a start they are the most non-military looking bunch of people I have ever seen. I know that might make sense if they are going undercover but regardless they do not act military either.

And if by chance they are civilians in the military they do not act or look like Cops.

Hettie is a terrible character and rather boring. The fear this dwarf inspires in people is quite amusing. She lacks leadership qualities as well.

Just a terrible spin off. No point in saying much more.

Like a WW2 era American propaganda film.
1 October 2018
I was just a kid when this film came out but even then watching the trailers for it, I knew it was a turkey. For whatever reason I never watched the film itself until last night simply because it starts with an "A" and was therefore the first in a list of films.

This low budget film is known now for having Sam Neil and Mel Gibson, 2 rising stars who would star in some very big movies. I doubt that if those 2 weren't in it that this movie would still be spoken about today.

It starts promising. It has a note from the Z Force Association stating that the film takes an unflinching look at Z Force operations. Hmmmm ok let's see....

Z Force was a real life Australian Special Forces unit which operated in WW2, they performed behind the lines, risky missions. All sounds great.

The acting is pretty average, standard Aussie fare. I often wonder how people like Sam Neil and Mel Gibson started acting differently in American films. There are some Taiwanese actors in the film, in fact they outnumber the Aussie ones, there is some karate scenes which made me laugh as they looked a bit out of place and like they were thrown in because karate films were still big in 1981 and the Taiwanese actor seems to know how to do it.

The action scenes are pretty small, it makes sense that these guys wouldn't fight pitch battles against huge armies they are not Rambo's but even so they are no where near as stealthy as you would think they should be.

Overall the film is entertaining but I found myself feeling like I knew nothing more about the "Z Men" and that what I just watched was a fabrication. And a poor one at that.

Warning: Spoilers
This film is about the last woman hung in England. I have read the other reviews and it seems there are some real fans of this movie. I think this is a problem when movie buffs review films. Odd, I know but what they do is focus on direction, lighting all these technical things which although good in some cases don't necessarily make for a good film.

And that is the problem here. The acting is top notch no complaints there, all the pegs appear to be in the right places. But the film is boring and pointless nonetheless. We see a woman who hosts parties and prostitutes herself. She isn't particularly mean but she isn't all that nice either. She has an affair with a younger man who in the end is just stringing her along as his parents do not approve when he says he wants to marry her. I would not approve either.

When he fails to take her abroad as promised, she gets upset and shoots him. There doesn't seem to be much more to it than that and then the film ends. No court room scenes, no more insight into her mind, nothing.

Are we meant to feel sympathy because she is a woman? She killed someone, she was executed.

I feel like I wasted my time watching this movie.

Demon House (2019)
1/10
Zak finally outs himself.
7 September 2018
Warning: Spoilers
I was a huge fan of Ghost Adventures when it first started. The show really did give me the creeps at times even though I often doubted the "evidence" they compiled. At the end of the day it was fun and like a modern day boys own adventure.

After a while though the show became old. The evidence became less frequent and the boys still act like they are brand new to it all. Surely by now they should be hardened veterans?

And so I decided to watch this Demon House anyway. I heard it was terrifying, Zak himself claims that this investigation "Fxxxed him up".

OK.. so it revolves around a suburban house that has been giving the tenants grief, they have all felt and been affected by things they claim to have heard and/or seen. It couldn't be mold in the house or coming from the semi exposed floor in the basement could it?

Well, we will never know. Zak calls in some expert to run tests on the electric frequencies in the house. We are told there is the occasional oddities. But we have to take that at face value.

Zak decides to board the house up with him inside it. Again we don't really hear or see anything. Again any sounds captured have to just be taken at face value.

We are told there is a Demon in the house, and Zak who has bought the house gets it demolished.

And herein lies the problem that an "expert" like Zak should already know.

Demolishing a house does not kill the spirits/entities with in it. Furthermore he takes some of the soil to keep in his museum! Ummm... the soil seems to be the problem and given he claims that his eyesight has been affected it seems like a rather stupid thing for a so called expert to be doing?
