beautifully done tribute
14 October 2023
What a lovely film. I was crying through the whole ending. I have such fond memories of Mr Dressup, Casey and Finnigan. We lived in a chaotic household, Watching Mr. Dressup, gave me that precious time to just be a child. The amount of love that his family had for him is so apparent. His children and grand children are beautiful people. He was not just an entertainer, he was an incredibly strong man and a consummate person. He lives in the hearts of so many Canadians and we need that wonderful, calm, loving, and most of all kindness in our lives in our world right now.

The film is beautifully done. You won't be disappointed.

Secrets of Playboy (2022–2023)

enlightening
9 July 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I'm the same age as these women. I grew up with Playboy magazines. My Dad hid them between his mattress and box spring. We kids found them of course and would hide in the bathroom discovering this fascinating world.

I gave it an 8 because of the repetition. It could have been allot shorter.

I'm not sure why an educated, informed person would leave a review berating these women. Many of the women, the majority most likely did not experience the abuse these women suffered. That doesn't mean these women are lying. Other women who participated in the "orgies" moved on most likely were married had kids and while standing at their kids soccer game with another mom are not bragging about their times with "Hef".

The information on grooming is very clearly defined in this series. The women admit they are/were vulnerable. They admit going back to the mansion as times went on and don't understand why. They were children when they went there! Being 19 doesn't make you an adult. They were used. They were groomed. It's obvious that some of these women exhibit signs of mental illness, that doesn't mean they are not genuine, they are more vulnerable.

Hundreds of women got nose jobs, boob jobs, and hair bleaching all according to "Hefs" demands. This man was a genius, manipulative, and a monster in disguise.

Important story
11 June 2023
I had no idea this happened in my neck of the woods. It's an important story. "Mr. Big" is very controversial here in Canada. I've interacted with police over the years in a work capacity, and I don't really like them. Policing needs to change. There remains an aura of "we will have our way".

The series could have been done perfectly in two episodes ..there was so much repetition. The set "scenes" were ridiculous, shabby retro, lampshades tilted, etc. Not necessary. The panning in and out of objects was really annoying. The last episode of the series is the best.

Overall this needed to be told.

elephant in the room

This is so disturbing. My focus for this review is on the mother. Yes the "powers" of media, took advantage of this young man and then dropped him at the first sign of trouble. One look at this "mother" tells you the true story. The mere fact that when she was informed of his arrest for murder, she smirked and gave a chuckle , enough said. Abuse. It's very clear all the way through this documentary that Kai was sexually abused at one point is his life. With a detached abusive mother and no support, his mental health is not surprising. Everyone ignored this kid. His suffering is obvious. He's muti-generational Canadian First Nation, already at a disadvantage.

There is mention of how good this lawyer "gentleman" was.... no talk of really how much a predator this lawyer was. The murder of him was not ok for sure but for Kai to rot in prison as the sole perpetrator in this disastrous life is not the answer. The depiction of Kai's life in this film is deeply disturbing. He didn't stand a chance.

Dark and interesting and a few small spoilers
21 March 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I was bored and selected this series and happy I did. The really low ratings I find on here are ridiculous and uneducated. If you go into a series, movie with expectations you will be disappointed. Just sayin.

I never really liked Andy Warhol's art. It just isn't for me, although I was interested in his character. It is incredibly obvious that he suffered with PTSD after he was shot. In those days it didn't get treated. I felt sorry for this sad, morose, very troubled man. The series and direction did an excellent job portraying this fact. It is obvious that in his two serious "loving" relationships he never dropped the control or gave himself wholly. They actually depict how mean and nasty he truly was under certain circumstances.

Not being at the side of his lover as he suffered and died of aids was pretty telling. He was a very selfish person. That era of aids was frightening, misinformed, cruel and unforgiving. Men were suffering because of their sexual orientation and the single minded self righteous WASP population.

The series did very well depicting the sad, angry, manipulative side of Andy Warhol. He really wasn't a nice person at all.

Great docu series
1 November 2021
I had no idea this event even happened. The time this was going on I was a young wife working full time with children and living in Canada. We Canadians seem to be a bit sheltered in life, but that's a different story.

By the end what struck me the most is the lack of remorse that "Sheela" and her main co hort,Jane the good shot" had.

Humoured, to witness the typical mid country rancher mentality I understand the need for this "utopia". But it never works ..... there will always be "someone lurking for power" It is a really well done series that takes no sides. Kudos Netflix!

Great series, light, fun, humour. I really, really enjoyed it. Fresh, something different. Great acting, the interplay between English and Swedish is phenomenal and smart. Hope they make some more. Enjoy.

So good

This series was an incredible watch. The actors, brilliant. It's not very often anymore that I am totally absorbed in a series, this was the exception. The mood, the undertones of sad and serious issues. The length of the series was perfect. My heart was focused on Marie. Deserving of some merit.

Best mini series
7 September 2019
I gave up years ago watching American made film of most kinds. I love British filming. This series hands down is the best series I have ever watched, and I've watched allot of them. The acting is some of the best I have seen in a very long time. The dark mood and flow of the drama, mesmerized me and I was very emotionally invested. Excellent.

Addicting
18 October 2018
Just finished binge watching this series on Netflix. It is spectacular and so so addicting. The period costuming is dead on. I collected at one time and studied vintage and Victorian linen and clothing , and this production did their homework. The lace is spot on for the time era and the sewing is meticulous. I would stop the video and enlarge the screen to look closely at the beautiful dresses. The " hotel " setting is phenomenal. Historically good. I think that the best actress in this series plays Belen. I felt angry with her, felt sorry for her, felt she was a victim and then hated her! So well done. The twists and turns kept you wanting to find out more. The humour is awesome, it is perfectly executed in the craziness of this family. You will thoroughly enjoy it.
