Minimalism: A Documentary About the Important Things (2015)
People are being way too hard on this film
I had to laugh at the reviewer who thought minimalism is mainstream just because it's trendy in silicon valley or the social media sites they frequent. The world is much bigger than that, here in the south nobody talks about minimalism or any of the other trendy things from social media, because a lot of us are poor and we spend most of our time working manual labor jobs and taking care of our families. I hadn't heard anything about minimalism before I saw this documentary, and I thought it was really well done and informative.
Insatiable (2018)
Hilarious and Relateable
I don't understand all the controversy with this show, as someone who was overweight and lost weight after adopting a healthier lifestyle, the show perfectly captures the huge shift in how a person is treated by society after they lose weight. It can make a person bitter and lose hope of finding real connections that aren't about physical appearance, and they show this in a very raw and honest way. It seems that a lot of the negative reviews online are, ironically, not seeing past surface appearances with this show. It's much deeper than it appears, and I love that the characters and relationships are so flawed and relateable. As a society lets not become so neo-victorian that we can no longer enjoy a good dark comedy, often dark comedies are uncomfortable specifically because they show truths that everyone is trying to deny. It's important to be honest with ourselves and realize that the discomfort comes from our own unhealed baggage, and going on a crusade against an innocent comedy show because we find it triggering isn't going to do anything to help us feel better, it will just skew our viewpoint toward more hatred and pain. In short, I'll definitely be tuning in for season 2 if the show is renewed.
