All Nighter (2017)
Sweet little film
Nice buddy-film that isn't full of gross jokes and ridiculous, over the top situations. Nothing new here just reliable storytelling, good acting, and a charming storyline. Great if you need something that will make you smile. JK Simmons is always wonderful and Emile Hirsch is again a quiet charmer. Don't miss him playing Bob Seger's Night Moves on the banjo over the end credits. Worth the price of admission alone.
The Space Between (2021)
Has Its Own Charm
It's another aging musician finds redemption story but the writing is solid, dialog witty, and actors very good with depth and substance. If that's the kind of movie you like, you'll enjoy this one. Don't hate it because it's not ground-breaking or doesn't have relentless action and hot sex. It does, however, have Kelsey Grammer singing and acting as good or better than you've ever seen him and some new faces you'll want to remember and see again.
Better Things (2016)
Crass and boring
No judgement. Just not my thing. Would have been easy to overlook the crassness if it was intelligent or funny but didn't find that here, either. Also, don't have children.
Hacks (2021)
Jean Smart is a National Treasure
Subtle, insightful, hilarious in a non-stupid way. Jean Smart can do anything. She shines here and manages the detachment and observational life a true comedian must inhabit with skill and ease. Love her! Love it!
