The Curse (2023– )

gross pp flash
21 November 2023
I was mildly interested for about 19 minutes until they threw some random genitalia in my face.

Made absolutely no sense.

I'm suddenly seeing someone's ding dong peeing and is it supposed to be funny? Attractive?

The pointlessness of this scene threw me out instantly.

I can't comment too much about the show overall except that if a director finds this kind of flashy scene beneficial to include, then I can safely assert that they are compensating for their poor quality film in a pornographic sort of way, catering to an audience who wants to see that, or they have no sense of humor and a lack of emotional intelligence when it comes to grossing people out.

To be clear I have no issues with nudity. I couldn't care less if everyone was nude throughout the entire film. But only if it is contextually appropriate, not done just for the sake of the nudity. And you can show someone at a urinal without zooming up on their PP, so I can only assume this was done for the sake of the nudity and perversion element.

seems marketed towards gore fetishers ....
15 October 2023
It had some amusing moments. Little too strong sometimes with the humor to the point it seemed too intentional to be funny. It came off as very linear ... again and again, brutal creative death with a touch of humor, edited to give you all the nastiness with a bit of light-heartedness. I have known some absolute freaks in my lifetime who would love to see this movie, and probably think about it in the shower afterwards. Makes me sick to think people will watch and laugh as heads get crushed and feel excited rather than disgusted at such things. I kept watching to see if anything changes and in the end just felt disgusted by the movie. The plot was very dry. Suddenly they just interject an explanation for it all based on some vague cliche and that's that. So if your idea of a great night is seeing skin get pulled off, gore and blood and guts spatter, people dying in funny ways, and virtually little else, then enjoy and hope I never meet you.

Horrible
28 June 2023
Season 1 was fine in the sense that it gave us an interesting situation with decent characters and writing, though virtually no explanations for anything, which made me wonder if Season 2 would deliver. Instead, Season 2 was extremely slow, full of exhausting drama reiterations every episode, stuff I really didn't care about, very unrealistic character choices like choosing to have a happy wedding while friends are being affected by imminent and deadly abnormalities, annoying monologues with characters "in their imagination", terrible acting, cringe "I'm so deep" quotes interjected throughout. I was convinced that completely different people must have been in control of Season 2 but I am not interested enough to verify.

Funny and tense, I would recommend
5 March 2023
It kept me at the seat of my pants. They did a great job showing the reality of horrible things without actually showing them. I thought the dialogue was quite funny. Some scenes I thought would be progressive for people to watch; I won't spoil anything but just basic teachings of what to expect from gaining transference from strangers and so on.

The ending gets a bit strange, not so straightforward at all, and more up for interpretations. Maybe you would understand it. But I at least felt satisfied after watching it, and find myself thinking about multiple scenes in the following days, which cannot be said for many movies which leave me confused (I am the type to really dislike occult messages).

5 Episodes in and it's very good. I think people complaining about the Chief revealing his face are superficial and no bad review has actually substantiated itself. People who aren't aesthetic zealots over the game will probably enjoy this movie. It has an interesting lore and keeps you guessing about the characters, with an underlying emphasis on the importance of emotions and not letting others turn you into their pawn.

3 Seasons in
20 February 2022
I like following the plot, but the main issue is how much they like to break immersion with loud and almost completely unrelated music throughout. Maybe not so much in s1-2, but s3 is especially bad. Horrible music. Felt like every episode there'd be 4-5 big scenes that were completed ruined by someone's pompous musical playlist.

The morals can be a bit wacky and some characters/scenes a bit unrealistic, but 2 stars for being entertaining enough to sit through the jarring flaws that should never have made it to production.

Music was loud and distracting.

Was pretty tense and engaging during some parts and detached and mundane during others.

Did make me think about how messed up meat and dairy are and what we put livestock through.

Ending scene was confusing, melodramatic, unrealistic.

Good until otter. Don't watch dubbed
20 December 2020
The first 10 minutes dubbed was ridiculous compared to the first 10 minutes of subbed. I recommend watching the original Korean language with subtitles.

The movie was serious and good up until the strange otter character decided to show up. Things just get stupid after that.

Decent, then plummets hard
19 November 2020
I liked Season 1 for the most part. Had good themes and tolerable levels of cringe. Characters were interesting. I could never recommend it based on its ignorant advertisements for animal products (which are unhealthy, unethical, unsustainable), but I thought it was an enjoyable ride nonetheless and I was interested in Season 2.

It leaves you off on a cliffhanger unnecessarily at the end of Season 1, which is something I don't like for Netflix shows, since they often don't even realize it themselves if they will continue on. Not a big deal though.

The big deal is how weird and cringe Season 2 became in so many ways.

Everything goes downhill. Characters make little sense. Massive cringe all the time. Filler moments & empty dialogue everywhere. References to cheese everywhere. Redundant music. A scene where an animal gets physically abused just to be used as a mount in a joking manner by a purported "good" guy who acts like a total moron (strong double-standard, as a scene like this would NEVER fly if it were a unicorn being beaten up to be driven).

Overall this show was depressing to watch go downhill. I had to stop about mid-way through Season 2.

Good but can't recommend
13 September 2020
Love the theme of behaviour mattering above all, of a lack of superficiality and all that, but the movie is weighed down by slow and meaningless parts. Could be done clearer and without annoyances. Can't fully recommend

It's so horrible, slow, unrealistic, repetitive ... It goes nowhere.

My brain ...

I can't watch another movie for a while now.

been a while to see a good thriller
19 May 2020
Has one of my fav scenes in it. i love thrillers/crime shows when they excersize the ideology that predators can go die regardless of what excuses they possess.

movie had me thinking/judging a certain way for a long time. was super tired but still couldn't stop watching. now i'm paying for it in the morning :P

funny but horrible

Warning: Spoilers
I mean if a rabbit steals food they get put into a nasty cage

but if a dog steals food they get "more food!"?

such a weird speciesist message in this episode, which is ironic since the word vegan is used multiple times

Some funny, weird, or pointless scenes, but mostly sad with a good message, especially to go vegan and stop killing animals and burning forests down for your appetite.

pretty awful
19 March 2020
I got tricked by the reviews into thinking this would be good.

Instead its just got a poetically vague and unintelligible villain, tedious scenes, a few camera jump scares, a clear intention to sell breast shots a few times, a cheesiness to everything (especially the ending), and a detached-from-reality monologue 90'sness to it all.

cringe, hard to believe, shallow ...
8 March 2020
Someone told me there was a twist but i didn't see it.

not much is scary.

character monologues are boring.

rapper boy and 19th century poet girl aren't interesting or believable.

the plot is very coincidental and hard to believe.

Good atmosphere, acting, plot.

interesting theme. felt like a really candid, genuine film, where the director's narrative and intentions are mysterious and the content engaging.

wish i got to know more in the end, but i'd recommend this movie.

I like the veganish theme

reminds me of how we terrorize animals for food we don't need

but yeah the movie is an attempt to simulate the Texas Chainsaw screaming for prolonged periods of time, and it's corny, gratuitous and dull. overall it felt long to watch and full of exaggerated insanity.
