Heidi Ewing is an Academy Award nominated director (“Jesus Camp,” ) and the co-owner of New York’s Loki Films. Her work is known for special access and a bold and rich visual style. "One of Us," an unusual look at Brooklyn’s cloistered Hasidic community, premiered at the 2017 Toronto International Film Festival. A Netflix Original Documentary, the film was shortlisted for Best Documentary for the 2018 Academy Awards. “Norman Lear: Just Another Version of You,” a wholly original take on the TV legend’s peripatetic life, was the opening night selection at the 2016 Sundance Film Festival then theatrically released by Music Box Films and acquired by Netflix. In the lyrical “DETROPIA” (2012), Heidi look drops deeply into her hometown of Detroit to learn what its teetering demise and attempts at renewal mean to the rest of the nation. The haunting and rare city symphony film won the editing prize at Sundance, received an Emmy and enjoyed a successful theatrical run. “12th & Delaware,” (HBO, 2010) is a searing portrait of a street corner in Fort Pierce, Florida, where a crisis pregnancy center and an abortion clinic are locked in battle. The film opened at Sundance and was awarded a Peabody.
