The Last of Us: Endure and Survive (2023)
1 of the best episodes of TV in 23
Acting. Cinematography. Story. Execution compared to the game. Suspense. It has it all. This will be entered into Emmy & Globe considerations for awards. It starts of slow as our characters meet & get to know each other. They go through a methodical plan to escape KC A& Kathleen. All seems well until our elderly sniper appears. This starts the spiral of chaos for our fab 4 as their simple plan starts to catapult out of control. Joel takes care of the sniper only to see Kathleen & her fleet in the distance. The remaining 3 run but it's too late. As Henry gives himself up, uprooted from the ground is a zombie horde including.... A BLOATER. Unbelievable sequence which results in the young Sam becoming infected & him & his brother fate sealed. Show gets better every week. Superb.
Fargo: The Nadir (2020)
Best episode so far
This was jam packed. What action. What suspense. They even bring back lines from Season 2 that avid show watchers enjoy. To this point, Mayflower, Canon & Otis have been the brightest stars and my goodness do they shine in this 1. Huston has been down right incredible. All the plot build up has this rocket ready to launch. The last 3 should be absolutely bonkers. Fantastic. Best show on TV.
Better Call Saul: Bad Choice Road (2020)
Rhea Seehorn steals the show
Kim Wexler. This episode is the best we've ever seen in heR. Just incredible acting as she saves Jimmy & co skin. If she doesn't even get nominated for an Emmy let alone become a favorite after this season the awards are a sham. Bravo Ms BRAAAVOOO. Between her and Lalo, the acting is just so frigging good. Not too mention the opening dual cam cinematography work. This season is gonna win some awards finally.
Better Call Saul: Bagman (2020)
Best episode of BCS ever
Vince Gilligan is a genius. What he brings to the director table is nothing short of pure brilliance. He brings out the best in everyone. Rhea, Bob, Mike, all brought their A+ game. Emmy list will be long. The fear in Kim's eyes. The defeat of Jimmy. The incredible speech by Mike about going on for the ones we love. This is pure Breaking Bad esque stuff. Absolutely phenomenal.
Better Call Saul: JMM (2020)
All rise for the incredible Bob Odenkirk
"Lightning bolts shoot from my fingertips!!" Enough is enough for Saul. Pent up emotion on Howard is unleashed. 1 of the best monologues from Bob thus far. The guy can carry a show. Just wow. What an episode. These last 3 are going to be fierce. What on earth happens to Kim and Nacho in this world?!?!
Better Call Saul: Wexler v. Goodman (2020)
Saul is here, the downfall begins
We've been waiting for that 1 scene in this show for when Saul shows Kim his true self and I think we got it. The end meeting is like watching Saul Goodman from BB enter the room. Amazing acting from Odenkirk and Seehorn. Marriage?!?! Could they have been all throughout BB and that's why Gene seems even more devastated then usual? Getting good. We also see that Nacho is looking to Mike for everything even help. So perhaps his downfall has started as well. Lalo. Does he go behind bars for murder or die in the process? Best episode of this season this far.
The Outsider (2020)
Breath taking
The first 2 episodes are just incredible. The anticipation, the cinematography, the acting. HBO strikes again & for that matter, so does Bateman. Along with Ozark he just seems to have the ball rolling in crime drama right now.
Game of Thrones: The Long Night (2019)
Enjoy the Emmys
What a great episode. It had everything. Acting. Action. Sadness. Death. Surprise. Effects. It's going to take home a lot of awards. Maisie should see some as well. Arya was right up front the whole episode. You cant please everyone. But this episode I thought was superb. And the music....WOW. So so good.
Game of Thrones: A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms (2019)
Goodbye, friends
Just an incredible penultimate episode. Every character had a moment. So much rich & incredible interaction. This is goodbye to a lot of characters tonight. It's devastating. Next weekend will be like a funeral. Im terrified. And not ready. Be careful what you wish for when you want non stop action. Ep 3 will be just that and everything you've loved about this show will turn to ash in your mouth. You'll want to come back to this episode after it all just to see their faces.
Game of Thrones: Winterfell (2019)
Enjoy the happiness now it's sure to end
So many smiles. So many reunions. Just a great premiere that hits home for true die hard fans. The interactions of characters is deep & they really get to them quickly but it works so well. An incredible moment between Jon, Dany, Rhaegal & Drogon. Great scary ending. Enjoy this upbeat, happy episode now, because the next 5 will be BRUTAL .
The Haunting of Hill House (2018)
Fantastic
This Crain Hill House adaptation is something special. The camera tricks, hidden figures & cinematography are brilliant & should be recognized by every viewer particularly Ep6 with the latter. The horror aspect is really strong from Ep1-8 & the last 2 delve deeper into the characters stories & family bringing everything full circle. If you like ghost stories & jump scares this is your show. Highly reccomend. A 10 all around.
Godless (2017)
A great new century western
The story is rich. The characters are vibrant & full of life. This mini series was so good. Jeff Daniels is unbelievable but the entire cast really sets the tone for how truly awesome this was. If you love westerns, gun fights, love & revenge this is for you.
Ozark: The Gold Coast (2018)
Wendy....White?
The darkness of this series has taken a turn for the better. Linney is ruthless, smart, decisive & the mastermind. She has transformed from housewife to organized crime boss. Anybody who has watched "Breaking Bad" knows how we watched Walter deteriorate into a man who didnt just orchestrate chaos, but welcomed it. Wendy Byrde has now entered the same path and it is a joy to watch. The family is just beginning.
Better Call Saul: Piñata (2018)
You get 1 warning, and that was it
Oh the sweet taste of revenge!! Jimmy sets up those 3 punks that robbed him in the most Saul way possible. Huell and his partner are ready for some bashing time! That was so satisfactory and Saul is on his way to fully emerging. Cell phones at the ready. Howard's life ticks away with every second as his firm is plummeting. Kim made a deal that finally benefits her and leaves Jimmy behind. Loved the Chuck flashback. Mike is running things full go with ththe laundry as we meet the german team behind the brilliant BB lab. And, some of the best dialogue of the entire series given by Giancarlo foreshadowing his torture of Hector who we all wait to awake. GREAT episode.
Better Call Saul: Talk (2018)
Banks steals this episode
Mike is a great focal point when we get it. Banks delivered another compelling performance as his daughter in law talks about his deceased son, we see him anger up like the hulk, then take it out on the group and some jerk shlub within the group. We also catch a glimpse of him laying cement with his boy in the beginning which was a great nod to when he did it back in S3. The reason i gave this episode an 8 was because I wish we could've seen the bad-assery the Salamanca twins did but alas, we see it from Nacho's eyes and catch the tail end. I understand guns and killing are not the focal point of BCS but it would've been cool to see. The little we got was solid. Good episode, slower side, butgreat acting from Banks and the action we got was good.
Better Call Saul: Something Beautiful (2018)
The return of the dancing chemist
The directors and writers of BCS promised us a cameo we wouldn't forget and boy BB fans weren't disappointed. As soon as Gus enters the classroom and we hear the singing of elements we know exactly who it is. None other than the tea drinking, child singing whacko chemist, GALE! The scene was done brilliantly with the reveal, acting as always and some fun Easter eggs. Gale mentions how he wants a job badly and Gus responds "not right now, you're meant for better things." How cruel! (Considering we in now jesse pinkman shoots him in the face because of his job.) I don't think this will be the last we see of this relationship materialize. On Jimmy's front he finally reads the letter from his brother but in the most Saul Goodman way. He could care less what Chuck has to say from the grave while his love breaks down from her stress enduced job and watching her man slip slowly away from the man she cares for. Saul is here. Nacho Vargas is playing both sides while barely escaping with his life. The salamanca twins saved his behind. Imagine that. That story is getting juicier by the minute. All in all a very strong episode of acting and the cameo was done superbly. 'To W.W. My star, my perfect silence."
Better Call Saul: Breathe (2018)
Gus Fring is BACK
Up until this episode the ruthless Gus we all know and love hasn't emerged. Well, HE'S BACK. He viciously jumps Arturo and ties a plastic bag around his neck with a zip tie, strangling him. The words he utters to Nacho are classic Fring "I know what you've done....from now on...you are MINE." Esposito delivers....again. But how about the girl power from Kim?! This was a moment ALL of us BCS lovers waited for. Her explosion on Howard and boy we weren't disappointed. She seems to twist the knife Jimmy set into Howard's chest in episode 1. Acting this episode was solid. Tension seems to be mounting with Salamanca twins. Cant wait to see what's next.
Better Call Saul: Smoke (2018)
A premiere done right
The first 10 minutes of this episode are so incredibly suspenseful it's as if Breaking Bad lives on. Gene feels as if there's somebody around every turn and this time, he may be right. Jimmy in the past steals the show with his depressive state over Chuck's death, which turns cruel & uneasy at episodes end toward Howard. Don't look now but Saul is emerging. Mike is starting to envelop everything we've learned to love about his BB character, attention to every detail. And Gus, is just smarter than everybody else. Fantastic episode. Sets up what could be the funniest BCS season yet.
Den of Thieves (2018)
Decent heist flick
Big bank robbery movie guy and this 1 is pretty goos. It's very slow and uses its acting and cinematography to perform. The action scenes though small do come out with a bang. The plot twist at the end is worth seeing it and young Jackson is solid. Decent movie and if you love heists I would recommend it. Just understand the way it's shot is for a reason and you won't be walking into Heat.
