Fair Play (2023)

Equal opportunity flick.
9 October 2023
Warning: Spoilers
A couple reviews implied the movie was solely about how men are jealous of their successful partner/spouse. I don't agree, it also showed how modern women are sex maniacs as well. Because Luke didn't have sex with Emily, she went to a strip club with all men and popped pills and came home wasted. Seems like the modern common justification. And he was right that you shouldn't be leaving at 2am to meet with a coworker or take calls at midnight. Which opens another can of worms when it's the opposite sex calling you or the same sex if you're gay. Then the ending where she makes a whole fake story to her boss that she was the victim, lol.

So much was left on the table. Great theme, actors, and cinematography, just flopped in crucial areas. Like it didn't need the blood in the beginning and it didn't need the blood at the end.

I really liked it.

Warning: Spoilers
No it's not a movie you'll watch more than once, but it made me think a lot about life. Do we go to purgatory and then have to figure out where we belong? Do people go into something similar during a coma?

The acting was on par with all the recent super hero movies. The special effects were basic yet believable. The plot was easy to figure out, but the ending could have gone 50/50 which I guessed wrong. Rachelle Goulding is stunning and fit her part very well. You always have to watch out for the pretty ones LOL.

I understand people want to rebel against religion nowadays more than ever. However, it doesn't mean you can't watch something about religion.

Cheap Furniture Instructions...
14 October 2022
This film reminded me of buying cheap furniture where the assembly instructions are lacking detail and too confusing. I grew up watching these actors and most of their movies so it was even tougher to watch.

After having more twists than a Milten Bradley game, I believe what really hurt this film was the main actress. She doesn't have that beauty that can "get any man" nor could she pull off the super sophisticated I know everything role.

The rest of the cast was decent. I wouldn't purposely put this movie on, but it were on HBO or something I would watch it again. And by the way, RIP Ray Latoya, I always enjoy what he brings to the table.

I have a bone to pick with the ending...
9 October 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Great overall film however it's a little too long like others have mentioned. I have a bone to pick with the ending. I was sexually abused by a family member when I was a child and didn't say anything until I was 33 years old. So for her to break off the wedding and leave him when he was a good person makes no sense after she came out. She didn't open up to him, but opened up to the newspaper lol. She just used him. With the length of the film, they should have evolved her previous relationships and then it would have made sense. The big picture is this film is going to help a lot of people to speak out and keep your head up.

I liked it.
21 April 2022
The other user reviews are spot on this one however I liked the film. I actually want to see a part 2 lol. The thing that irked me is they could have set a car or house on fire and that would have provided enough light, come on.

Enough is enough...

So tired of black movies about racism or being gay. Stop trying so hard.

Besides that the cinematography was very nice, horror like. It was good to see Regina play a serious role even though she cracks me up in the Scary Movie series.

There's 2 Post-Credit Scenes
6 January 2022
I seen people saying things in their reviews that aren't true. There is two post-credit scenes. I won't mention what's in them so I don't mark this review as a spoiler.

Great movie. Brings me back to when I was a kid and renting VHS's at Blockbuster on a Saturday Night was like getting a new toy. As other's said, the comedy/dialogue between Podcast & Phoebe really made the movie. The little Marshmallow guys were cool too haha. I also like how the commemorated the other Ghostbuster as Fast & Furious does to Paul Walker, very classy. Only reason it wasn't a 10 is the ending seemed rushed and the ol' timers acted like my grandpa when he didn't want to do something, but was obligated to.

The title should be "The lost doll"
5 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I had to use this as a title from reading another review haha.

I didn't see what other's saw in this film. Olivia Colman's acting was good, but not great. I mean she mostly stared at people and acted like a reclus. Which didn't fit since she was married and still humping around.

If anyone should win an award it should be the father that took care of the two daughters that she left for 3 years. As a father of 4 kids that works from home, I know the trails and tribulations of parenting. And that's why I gave the film a 5, it did have some touching moments that I can't recall I've seen in another film, it was just too vague. Reminds me of the Russian song people are doing TikTok's with their family and don't know how what the song is saying.

I didn't get it....
14 December 2021
Just like the other review, I didn't get the film and I watched it completely. Very nice scenery and acting was ok, but LifeTime movies have a more meaningful script.

Misleading...
12 December 2021
Don't let these people that liked the film put you down because you didn't like it. Good acting hands down. But come on, this films leads you on like a topless stripper. I would have liked it more if it didn't give the X-Files vibe.

Thumbs up...
11 December 2021
Definitely worth a watch. I prefer Bullock in action movies, but she did well here. The reason I gave it 7/10 is like someone else wrote, the sister is 25, but portrayed more like a teenager. It would have been more believable if Bullock was in prison for 15 years instead of 20. + they didn't elaborate on the sister enough.

They Keep Getting Worse...
7 December 2021
Of course we weren't expecting it to be as good as the first two, but come on put some effort into the film instead of just riding the name. I regularly watch the series with my kids and couldn't get past half way on this one.

Too New Age For Me....
7 December 2021
Big fan of the Cheech & Chong movies so it was good to seem him around however this movie was too new age for me. Born and raised in SF and moved because the "forcing" of peoples lifestyles. I felt the same way watching this movie. Make it natural, not forcing it down our throats.

The reviews are a little harsh on this one...
21 October 2021
I think the hardest category for a low budget film is horror. With that being said, this film was decent. The downfall was definitely the hillbilly's. They should have casted a little better actors.

More Relevant Than Ever...
21 October 2021
Even though this film is a few years old, it's more relevant than ever. It's worth watching for anyone who is struggling with the pandemic of being indoors. It's also great to see comedians (Jo Koy) taking on more serious roles instead of the loud mouth vulgar sidekick.

I like different.....
20 October 2021
Since it's almost Halloween I've been getting burned out on the same Horror plots and this was a good change of pace. It's a very interesting concept. As others say, this movie has many holes.....like why doesn't looking at his own reflection kill him? Does that mean that others can look at his reflection like Perseus did Medusa?

If you can get past the holes, this film touches on love, death, with well placed dry humor. And if you're an outsider like I am that deals with heavy social anxiety, you can relate to both main characters.

Not A 1 Star But A 2
11 August 2021
I looked this title up for an explanation on the ending and seen it has a 80+% rating on RT lol did I miss something?? I wouldn't say it deserves a 1 star, but a 2.5 all day long. Acting was "ok" and some background scenes were really nice. But like the comments say, the script was so predictable like eating a Cup Noodles, consistently bland.

I Love Con Movies....
10 August 2021
I love con movies and this one didn't disappoint. The only negative I would say is the middle of the movie kind of loses you when the beginning grabs you. As another reviewer said, the con should have been elaborated on. However, what a phenomenal ending. We constantly are so focused on looking at one thing in life that we miss other things that are right in front of our face. If anyone that didn't have a parent or parents in their life, I bet you'll tear up.

Best Movie Of The Year Thus Far....
19 August 2019
Let me first start off by saying I'm not gay and don't typically watch movies with gay images or titles. With that being said, I'm glad I didn't pass this one up. Definitely my favorite movie thus far this year.

We all grieve in different ways, but this one hit home. I mean how many of us try to open a new door without closing the existing one.

The acting was superb. The Mexican (Ernesto) reminds me of my uncles and grandparents in his work ethic and conscious of what they're being paid for.

Not a baseball movie.
23 July 2019
I really like Sofia in and out of movies whenever I happen to see her, but she couldn't even save this movie for me. I wouldn't have known by the performance that they are actually married (thanks to reading another review lol).

If you want to know what this film is like, go to a bar and order a drink with a vulgar name...you won't know what the hell is in it.

Great movie, but seems highly filtered from the truth....
26 January 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Great acting however the story left a sour taste in my mouth. They made her out to be a decent person that just made a mistake and this is Hollywood's payback for her withholding her emails and texts. She hired models, but no sex was going on? No prostitutes? She was the only one using drugs? She didn't sleep with not one of those rich and powerful men? Lol come on.

And to put icing on the cake, they make her guilty plea at the end as honorable or a sense of integrity.

Felt like a 90's action movie.
28 August 2017
I was doing my daily paperwork while watching this flick and still guessed who the bad guy was halfway through. Definitely had a 90's feel of the bad guys want to kill just because. Would have gave it another star if Mr. Douglas wasn't in this movie, his talent is far beyond a role like this.

Typical Hollywood BS.
19 August 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Such a typical Hollywood film. The out of touch rich white male, the gossipy drunken white wives, blah blah blah. Salma has really grown on me in her past few films, but why would she take this role when she's married to a billionaire lol, go figure.

Being Mexican, obviously I don't speak for us all, but it was a slap in the face. We(more so the immigrants)wouldn't speak to our employers especially in their home in that manner. In addition after her acts and them not kicking her out or firing her, doesn't that make them more understanding and sympathetic to her than she is to them?

The actors did with they could, the script just fell short. I would have been satisfied if the film had ended when she stabbed him and we found out George Soros funded her. I gave it an additional star because 1/3 of the shots were of Salma's backside and Enrique Castillo from Blood In Blood out was the tow truck driver.
