Kathal: A Jackfruit Mystery (2023)
Made me chuckle a couple of times. Writing was very smart.
It was a fun ride start to end. The whodunit case kept me intrigued.
The makers have smartly woven a couple of stories into one to show a simple but effective mirror to the society. Caste issues,
politics, journalism, patriarchy, misogyny are all touched up at one time or the other. It didn't seem too preachy too. All the actors have given a good performance. The
The low rating is probably because of the sensitive topics that it touches. Caste topic will have haters on one side or the other.
Very light movie but very smart.
I think this movie should have 7 stars but I giving it 8 to compensate for the already low ratings.
Jiok (2021)
Fun, gripping, eerie and thought provoking
The show made me think if the world that they had setup was an utopia or a dystopia. And that made me nervous. It made me keep wondering if I would want to live in that place or not.
I don't like the overdramatization that many Korean shows that I have watched tend to make. The actors are always hyperbolic with their dialogues. It's probably just how Korean shows and movies are I guess.
The music seemed haunting and the action scenes were high quality. Camera work seemed excellent as well. No issues with the CGI too.
It's a small show with only 6 or so episodes. But it was a thrilling ride end to end. The script seemed tight.
I would definitely watch out for the next season.
Mimi (2021)
A bit too dramatic, few good comedy scenes, A1 music
A R Rahman has created magic yet again with his Mimi soundtrack. Every song has its own flavor and evoked very specific emotions. The songs did not seem out of place in the movie. (edit - audio editing seemed awful though like the other reviewer pointed out)
I liked the comedic aspect of the movie more than the drama. Pankaj Tripathi my man, conveys a lot without saying much the entire movie. Loved his performance. I like Kritis performance more in Bareilly Ke Barfi more than in this movie. But no complaints in general with the acting department.
Wish they had toned down on the drama. The American couple's actions and acting seemed out of place to me. I think Western actors will continue to feel out of place because of how over the top acting has to be in Indian movies compared to the west.
Extinction (2018)
Surprised me on many occassions!
This movie is a great example of how people end up at either of the extremes of the likability spectrum and not in the middle. People either like this or hate this and that alone is reason enough to check this movie out.
This movie is anything but predictable.
Manasaare (2009)
Something for everyone!
This is a typical Yograj Bhat movie with slick comedy, thought provoking dialogues and a quirky story-line. Yograj Bhat in collaboration with co-writer Pawan Kumar, of Lucia fame, has given a family entertainer.
The many interesting and philosophical scenes give an intellectual edge. But with great music, drama and romance, there is enough masala for the average movie goer as well . Kannada industry needs more movies like Manasare which is a commercial movie with a message. Actors have done justice to the great writing.
Watch this movie with your family on a sunday afternoon. You wont regret.
We need more of Pawan, Diganth, Aindrita and Yograj's movies!
