Ted Lasso: International Break (2023)
One of the worst episodes of television I've ever seen.
Wow, this latest Ted Lasso episode was an absolute dumpster fire. Shockingly bad. Honestly, it was the worst episode I've ever seen. It actually feels like it was written and produced by a child. The characters? Barely recognizable, acting all sorts of weird and out of character. And the so-called emotional climax, with the corniest voiceover, had me cracking up. Nearly every time the episode wanted me to be emotional, I found myself laughing out loud at the absurdity. I'm talking deep belly laughs... This isn't just a low for the show, it's a deep, deep dive into the Mariana Trench of TV blunders.
Ted Lasso: 4-5-1 (2023)
Don't be fooled by familiar faces.
Don't be fooled by familiar faces, this is not Ted Lasso. Unfortunately, this season so far (303) just doesn't have the charm or more importantly the nuance that we've come to expect from the show. It feels a lot like the creators read one too many glowing reviews and allowed that classic self parody to creep in.
This season feels almost cartoon like in certain moments, silly beyond reality, in ways that pull you way out of the experience. Especially the stuff with Zava. I get it, they're making fun of our God-like treatment of these egotistical soccer heroes, but they're doing it exactly how some film student would do it. Zero nuance, zero originality, just over our heads like a hammer.
Keely doesn't feel like Keely, Ted is still insecure about his ex wife, Roy has somehow regressed and is insecure about his emotions for a bit to the writer, and Rebecca is still insecure about her ex husband even though she already confronted and overcame that thread last season. Panic attacks? We really have no knew stories to tell about these characters?
A lot of scenes go on for way too long and feel like cut scenes that shouldn't have made it. Pacing is extremely weird, I'm taking bizarre and amateur.
Overall, I'm watching because I've committed to this show but it's not even close to the same show or quality. Sad.
The Santa Clauses (2022)
So creative and full of heart.
It's extremely creative and full of heart, maybe better than the films in my opinion. The show isn't afraid to take risks and try new things, even after 3 films.
And it's actually pretty funny in moments too.
It's inventive and builds on the franchise, explores the world in new ways, while being true to it and without stepping on it. Not an easy task, especially when changing the format so drastically in the move to television.
Great show for kids, fun for adults too. Wonderful energy for the holidays. I can easily watch more seasons of this. The filmmakers should be proud of what they made here.
The Lost City (2022)
Bad pacing makes for an oddly quiet movie considering the genre
Most of these blockbusters treat their audience like morons and use music to force feed jokes and pacing. But this one has the exact opposite of a problem. Moments that seem to be communicating a joke have zero SFX, visual or musical punctuation and it makes for a bizarrely paced movie.
For an example of one of these moments, take a look at the moment where Channing Tatum early on in the film falls off a stage in front of a crowd. No music, no nothing. Just really weird silence that tells us almost nothing.
Oddly enough, it's something I've noticed in other Sandra Bullock films. 🤔
Obi-Wan Kenobi (2022)
I understand that this is technically television, but does it have to feel like it?
Look at something like Game of Thrones or Breaking Bad, True Detective. These are shows only technically, but they feel like movies.
Why would you SET OUT to make a new Star Wars show FEEL like a generic tv show? Especially one as unbelievably anticipated and iconic as this one?
Btw this is pretty easy to avoid. Stop hiring TV directors and showrunners.
But fine, it feels like a tv show. Whatever. At least don't be boring. At least don't be that.
Spoiler alert: it is.
Moon Knight (2022)
Not great, unfortunately.
Not great, unfortunately. And it could have been truly great. I think everyone who doesn't like it would probably agree with that. That the subject material, the locations, the original IP. It all adds up to what should be greatness, but it just fails.
Tries to be funny and fails. Tries to be a fun adventure and fails. Tries to be a love story and fails. And with this one it's hard to pin down exactly why it all fails so badly, because Oscar Isaac did fine.
The problem is, it's boring. If it was bad, we could rally behind bad and have fun with it. But it's just boring.
Boring script. Boring plot. Boring characters. BORING villain. Boring action. Just boring :/
The Matrix Resurrections (2021)
This is embarrassing. What is this??
Possibly the worst movie I've seen in my entire life, really not exaggerating. It's so bad that it's hard to imagine somebody actually tried to make something decent here.
It feels like a parody of the matrix made by a C level television director. Like it was made to air on CBS next to NCIS. It seems intentionally bad, like that's what they were going for. That's the only way I can imagine filmmakers with this much experience can produce something this horrendous.
What we're they thinking?
I mean you have such incredible source material, solid actors, unbelievable resources at your disposal and a global stage and you make this?
I do admire the little crumbs of a concept that's hidden here, but it is overshadowed by vapid, plastic writing and television grade cinematography.
Please stop giving hacks money. How many starving people could we have fed with this worthless movies budget?
Santa Inc. (2021)
Inspired me to cancel my HBO max
When did Hollywood stop being subtle? I mean if you're going to spew propaganda, at least don't make it BLATANT propaganda. I could at least respect that a little. Or even if it's blatant, make it good? Entertaining? Funny? Remember those things?
But this? This is sad and embarrassing to everyone involved. Really just sad and embarrassing and I have zero interest in actually paying money for a service that hosts this kind of garbage.
Reminiscence (2021)
Cheap
What's with this new, horrible trend of films that feel like cheap TV shows? Is this the direction we're going in? Count me out.
The Suicide Squad (2021)
Oh My God, This Movie Is Terrible
Don't waste your time, seriously. Shot terribly, horrible pacing. Parts of it feel like a B-TV show w/ generic music laid over poorly made scenes.
Hard pass.
Loki: Journey Into Mystery (2021)
Extremely disappointing and amateurish
I've really been enjoying this show... till now. Horrible pacing, horrible editing, horrible dialogue and structure. Honestly embarrassing and in parts, like if a film school student was given a big budget.
Disney has clearly hijacked this review section, don't buy it.
I've never left a review before, but this was exactly that bad.
I mean, multiverse Loki's?? This could have been insane and epic and iconic. No Thor Loki? How do you make this episode with these characters and these actors and these incredible sets this impressively bad?
