Moonlight (I) (2016)
9/10
Painful, emphatic and raw. Survival is the key word.
15 September 2020
Moonlight is definitely my best picture of 2016, for how much that statement is worth. I felt really close to the main character Chiron: he suffers at home, school, life in general is painfully dramatic for him. He's lost, he hides from himself, he must live up to the real man culture and to what other people already planned for him. So he did, but, in the end i'd like to think Chiron managed to live with himself, be happy with who he is and knowing that's enough.

Juan(shout out to Mahershala Ali, what a beast of an actor) represent Chiron's only protection. He doesn't want him to follow the life he chose and wants to give him what his mother can't deliver: a safe home, but he couldn't manage to stop the cycle, as suffering is strictly part of Chiron's life and to many living in ghetto areas. It's not about living, but surviving.

Also, the ocean and water itself is a big character in the plot. Purification, reborn, solitude. When Juan teaches Chiron how to swim it consolidate his presence as a paternal figure, swimming means surving. And when he meets Kevin on the beach a little bean of sun shines, it's good to know someone else might be on your same boat.

The pressure, the antagonism and the castration on Little is definitely part of the "macho man" emblem. Blackness and suffering, you gotta be strong to stay alive, you must be a man, we know what that means, there's one definition, it's a standard and if you don't follow it, you're weird and different. So better be normal, or you won't make it out alive. And this is a warning.

Finale kinda weird and Michelle Dockery is the worst
31 August 2020
Warning: Spoilers
The suspance is there, you really wanna understand if Jacob did it or not, so the build up leads to the last two or three episodes, but the last episode is very particular. They chose a road that i didn't see coming, but still felt kinda lazy and the whole mexico thing is overlooked and rushed.

Also, Laurie is a very obnoxious character, terrible to watch, but they should've got more into her mind state instead of just scenes of her walking around confused with that emptiness on her face.

Chris Evans is very pleasant to watch, awesome guy. Even the kid that plays Jacob did a good job, although winy and afraid most time. But the plotline about his sick hobbies and behaviour is pretty good, but still they should've got more involved with that too.

Pretty decent show over, enjoyed even if it felt dragged, slow and overdrammatic at times

Also, shout out to Ben's father, did a pretty good job.

If you're lucky, you can see Kanye West around

That's the best part of the show, but only newer seasons. Sometimes he pops in, literally doesn't wanna be seen, but it's good to get a look at him

A Ghost Story (2017)
4/10
Obnoxious, pompous, diluted, greedy but poor
20 May 2020
It wants high expectations from the viewers, but doesn't reward them.

Hipster movie that tries to impress the spectator with those long sequences and scenes, but utterly fails to make us empathize with the characters and feel something except a bad taste in the mouth.

In the end, utterly boring and useless, but hey, the fotography and direction are pretty good, except for that self-important and pretentious ratio, whatever was up with that.

They need to bring this show back
14 April 2020
I understand that Better Call Saul is still airing so Bob doesn't really have time to focus on anything else, but if they do find some they should really produce more seasons of this, it's a great show!!!

The Witcher (2019– )

What a joke professional critics are now
21 December 2019
This is at least good. I see some people complaining about the pacing and different arcs and where these arcs are set, i mean, the show gives you every single little detail you're going to need. Don't be lazy and just keep up, it's no harder to follow than GoT season 1, they are building a world with this season and introducing new characters, of course it's gonna be hard to follow. And about GoT, this show might be your answer to the new big fantasy television mania, but DEFINITELY it's not GoT, and it doesn't want to be at all. It doesn't completely follow the books page per page, but it has respect for the source material a lot, you might argue about some stuff, if you have eyes you can see it. The cast is excellent. Music is great. Direction is kinda strange at times, but pretty solid overall. Maybe the first episode is kinda boring during the first 30 minutes, but it's the first episode and it needs to build a story.

Might 10/10 be too much, definitely. But it's a great show in my opinion and i absolutely love it, it really has a persona and an inner voice and look, but critics are just blind, we've seen it many times now, we can't trust them anymore unfortunately.

Real, true, where emotions find their way up in dialogues and feel palpable.
7 December 2019
It's not about realistic things, but more about realism. All right, all right, let me explain.

Marriage story simply deals with the split of this couple that had very happy years, but now they don't feel as connected as before. The thing with Noah Baumbach is he really likes to tell human stories, stories about an everyday problem that is not necessarily dealt with realistic encounters and dialogues(in a way they perfectly do, but they also thrive from being on a screen and develop their own world), but the general realism of a story like this gets translated through the script and camera. Does that make sense? Does it have a ground? Seriously, i'm sincere right now, i just lack the words, but i hope you get me.

Anyway, this realism really connects with the watchers, you kind of feel inside the story, it' a "well, that could've happened or could happen to me". Of course you draw your mentality from there and you feel you could handled that situation better than the characters, but it's not about that, you don't know it because the emotions of this characters are real, palpable, almost like if events and reactions like that really happened and were simply recorded like a documentary, but highlighted. We're very very different, we don't all express our feelings the same way, that's why it differs from each individual. What i'm trying to say is that it's a relatable story, but still made for entertainment and i love that.

Going more technical, Driver and Johansson are MAGNIFICENT, at the prime of their talent. Writing, direction and production overall, it's all up there and if i didn't make myself clear, it's a top notch work, the really embodied the spirit of this story. Oscar worthy? Hell yes, everything about this movie is good, i honestly can't see anything wrong with it, at first i was afraid of some forced dramatic acting, but, well maybe there is, but it definitely doesn't take anything out of the story and overall quality.

In so many categories this movie excels, can't just pick one. Also, i've just realised now it was over 2 hours, they flew away.

Top Boy (2011–2023)
9/10
Terrific writing and realization.
9 November 2019
It starts wonderfully, and it gets better. Top boy is drama tv show that talks about the crime life in London.

The show started back in 2011 and aired for 2 seasons on channel 4: much praised, much loved, so, no idea why it got cancelled. It gets picked by Netflix for a season 3 and damn, the maturity and evolution of this show is outstanding.

Dialogues and events are realistic, i mean, as realistic as they can get. The depth of certain chracters and how they act in all these different situation, and you can see how they change through time. I'm not british and certainly no gangaster, so i'm not actually in the place to judge how grounded the show is to reality, but from an outsider like me, and i guess 99% of who's watching, the show holds on with no problems.

Outlaw King (2018)

People simply can't appreciate it
3 November 2019
What a great movie, awesome in every way. I don't know if it's historically accurate or not, but definitely more than Braveheart. But you see, you can't really compare them, one is an adventure revenge movie, this is pure drama and history: cruel, cold, real, doesn't mess around even though it takes its time. Brilliant production and music, Chris Pine is simply awesome. As i said, pity people won't appreciate this gem. Go and watch it, it's 2 hours of full Scottish immersion.

This is history
2 November 2019
Great writing, and it takes you back in time and you feel part of. But what is the most great about the movie is the historical accuracy. Every little detail was thrown in: how people behaved, what they wore, what they talked about, what they ate, if they ate, the hairstyle. Many many thanks to who developed this project. Another similar movie is definitely Outlaw King, always on Netflix, check that out too.

Who cares about Gemini?
18 October 2019
What's better than Paul Rudd? Two of them. This show is awesome, it's just likeable in general and pretty straight forward, it doesn't take time to develop useless stuff, it just gets you into the story. Do yourself a favour and watch it, first season is just 8 episodes and you'll have a great time, maybe watch it with some friends or with your lover. Extremely happy i started it.

Joker (I) (2019)
8/10
One of the best movies of the year
11 October 2019
I don't care about movies based off comics, i really don't. They are big blockbusters: full of action, some drama, epic moments and Marvel perfected their formula with putting some jokes. DC tried and failed(honestly they needed just some humor in their movies, like Shazam or Aquaman). With that being said, i'm gonna say it now as the first and last time, Joker is not about a character from a comic book, you can change the name of 4-5 characters and you'll be able to think at it as a new IP. The production doesn't care about that, they care about showing great acting, great direction, great production, GREAT CINEMA and that's all.

It's a modern Taxi Driver as many said, and i agree, maybe not on the same level, but on a parallel route. Joker is the story about a sad sad sad man, living in a sad city, doing a sad job, with a sad income and taking care of a sad mom. This and the discovery of old secrets put him in a spiral of mental illness and sickness. And that was the last his mind could take.

Todd Phillips, i don't know, the guy went from simple, but sufficient shots in some of his previous and mainstream works to making an incredible movie full of some really good angles. Really, clean and thoughtful direction, maybe nothing super exciting, but definitely worth appreciating. While the cast in general was awesome, as good as it can get. Deniro once again shows he's not just a mafioso, but he can put himself in many roles and be very diligent about them. Of course Joaquin Phoenix gets the stand, he was simply magnificent, the kind of range of that actor is incredible and we all love watching him on the screen: Gladiator, Her, The Master, i mean he doesn't have to prove himself no more, this movie should get him an Oscar, or at least a nominee.

The raw and cruel world is definitely well portrated, everyone's evil, there's no goodness left. And Arthur, the protagonist just stopped trying to make things better, he accepted darkness and his character was then born. Society made him that way and he eventually accepted it. The craziness, that wasn't something wrong, that was him. Go crazy, go mad and f everyone. Before Joker, the great greek philosopher George Costanza once said "We're living in a society, we're supposed to act in a civilized way". That doesn't happen though, and Arthur fed up with stopping it at this point.

Just watch the movie. And shame on you professional critic, 58/100 for this movie is an absolute crime. I hope something changes the mindset of this so called critics, they shouldn't bring their own personal reasons and believes into their reviews since that rate is supposed to be unbiased.

The movie we thought we didn't need, but now feel it was necessary
11 October 2019
So, this movie goes around and expands a little plot: Jesse needs some cash so he can make a new life. It's all about of how he gets to these events. You feel Jesse's pain, you worry about his safety like that child you want to protect. You want to help him, tell him what to do, but you can't and still, Jesse, this man who was a little irresponsible kid, now grew to be a real man and in a way listens to your good advice. And you saw his evolution, you saw his suffering and what took him to get there and how he fought his way. I just feel like he now accepts the fact money isn't everything, he knows that if he could take all of it back, living with nothing, he would do it again. The appreciation of life and freedom. This is not just a commercial way to keep Breaking Bad going(i mean, they made money of course), but it's a real closure, now i feel i needed it and this is my ending.

This movie is great guys, i don't know if you can rate it high if you didn't watch Breaking Bad, but i mean, it's a sequel, what do you expect? Also, i read someone complaining about fan boys that randomly rate this movie 10/10, while they actually are the only ones to make a real review. To those arrogants, don't question please anybody's opinion.

It's an opened door chit chat...
24 September 2019
This show is beautiful, that's a simple, but on point word for this show.

It's not your typical late show in cable, i don't even think it's a late show. There's not a real format, but it's more like David invites friend, who is also a celebrity of course, and has with them a normal conversation: work, like, passions, future, past. And we can watch that chatting between the two and although not really part of it physically, you get involved since it's such an intimate spot.

If you like David Letterman this is just more of his brilliant, fluent, smart mind. Actually, it's just that, a dark spot enlightened by him and his guests.

Transparent (2014–2019)
7/10
Transparent is both good and bad because of Jill Soloway
18 September 2019
Jill Soloway is the writer of the show. All this, is her idea, i mean, she has created such a fresh and original comedy drama, but her mindset and political awareness ruin many moments. I understand the show is a celebration of love, pain, sexual diversity, but we can clearly see the stamp of the writer's ideology all around the show: she tells us what's right, what's wrong, what is good, what's not, what should be liked and what should we not like.

The core concept of the series is basically based on her father's story, he came out of the closet a few years ago at a certain old age, but she places these other characters and focuses on them too much that we lose the actual protagonist and she does that because she wants people to feel rappresented and change the mind of those who do not accept the LGBT community, but no, everyone has the same mindset in the show: liberal, modern and open-minded, which are all good elements, but the other side is missing.

Jill is not a transgender, her father is and we watch the show through her eyes while we should be watching through his. I'm not saying he should've wrote the story, what i'm saying is, although she got into his trousers, that was not enough, because she focused on too many other characters, like the children, we can easily assume they're based on herself, and the show keeps going on with their side, but what's even more wrong is the fact their side is extremely politically manoeuvred, gender identity is brought in, dramatized family troubles, culture and religion.

Jill didn't bring just a story, she brought her life in and with that her views on the world. Don't get me wrong it's a good thing, but not everyone can actually releate to it, since the show in not unbiased on these themes, but has a very strong agenda.

The Spy (2019)
7/10
It's good, but it definitely takes sides
11 September 2019
Warning: Spoilers
A theme so delicate as this is hard to portray and to talk about. Which side is in the wrong? Which is in the right? No side is either wrong or right, because war isn't about being good or bad, but it's about people making decisions. Those decisions are made to help their own country and will be seen bad and evil by the other country.

I had to skip the last 10 minutes of the show, not because it's heartbreaking or whatever, but because it's not right torwards the Syrian counterpart in my opinion. The whole show isn't actually. I'm not Syrian, i'm originally from Morocco, but born and resident in Italy. I am not a Muslim since i don't belive in a god. Whith these premises said, i do not take a specific side on this matter, but i have eyes and i see that Syria is pictured as this undeveloped, eager on war country, that wants to hunt and exterminate every Israeli, while Israel(a modernized and civilized country)sent Eli to save lives of children and civilians by boycotting the evil syrians.

I know that the show focuses on Eli and his love for the country and the fact he died for it. On the other hand he was a trusted man and he betrayed many people who cared about him and respected him, he was a menace to syrians and helped killing many of them. Why would he be a hero? In Israel yes, he died serving his country, but why would we see him as a so? He was a spy, it was legit for syrians to do what they did because the Israelis(or any other country) would have done the same exact thing. His country and he himself put his person in danger and they knew the risks, of course they did. Why would you free a spy? Someone that stole intels from you? Why would you feel bad for someone that betrayed you in such a cold way your trust?

The show creator definitely takes a side and that's unfortunate because it's always important to analyse the two and then actually understand that both made wrongs and goods. Maybe add a character that would humanize the syrian side and not give them that horrible tone of evilness. I'm not going to get political on this, expecially because i am no expert on the matter, but these are my thoughts as a viewer.

Game of Thrones: The Iron Throne (2019)

20 May 2019
The worse has passed, episode 4 and 5 were terrible. So the finale should've logically be bad and it is actually. But, i'm okay with it, i feel satisfied, more satisfying than those two terrible episodes. It's cheesy, undeveloped and unearned, but i don't care anymore, i can live with it, expecially knowing the real finale is getting written somewhere outhere in the world. Best part: Jon's hair are back. Worst part: season 8

Glass (2019)
7/10
Good movie, maybe not as great as Split or unbreakable
23 January 2019
Strong 7.5, light 8/10(8 might be too much, but i didn't feel like giving him 7).

Objectively talking, it's a good movie, good structure, of course great acting, direction went from "pretty canon, but works perfectly" to "maybe this could had been done better(like Bruce Willis' fights, i know the man isn't as young as he was, but come on Shymalan, just put a stunt double there, or use better shots at least). But still, a very impressive job mixing the different vibes from the two first movies and putting them in only one piece. But there are some issues, very clichè stuff. Like the end, well, i mean, the last 2 minutes could have been exploited better, and even some forced scenes, i mean, that stuff wasn't there in Split, nor unbreakable: it feels like rushed at times, not so much effort was put in details or maybe too evident details at sight.

It's a pretty standard movie after all, not as good as the two first entries, but very solid overall, when you put everything together, you see how good it is and how well though the whole trilogy is. The end(not counting the last two minutes) was genius, if they stricked with the "before the end" the trilogy would've felt a little bit pointless, i mean, 20 years to get here, so i'm fine with the finale. Finishing, a more in depth execution was needed to resemble at best the first two movies quality, but it's still very good film. Definitely against the general critics mind, they failed this movies for stupid reasons, and i feel ashamed that people like that can give such an influential verdict.

A wonderful discrovery to BINGE and ADORE
29 December 2018
Just binged it on Netflix and i must say, what a pleasant watch it was. The characters are well written, all of them with certain personalities and they evolve through time and in each episode they face something that change them because every episode talks about modern and actual arguments. I like how they treat the tension between Ireland and the rest of the UK, expecially because the series is set in the 90s and a big break happend in those years. About the 90s, how they kept the vibe of the time period is brilliant: being it physical or psychological, and a big mention to the sountrack, old classy jams from the days. The acting...i didn't know anyone of the cast members, but they are hella good, even if the protagonists are in their late 20s but they are impersonating teens.

A very well written show, high comedic value, the brits released only good tv series this year, can't wait for season 2. Hope it'll release around January. Just please put more than 6 episodes, the series has too much to talk about and i want to hear it, it's definitely a future classic and standard for british comedy.

Narcos: Mexico (2018–2021)

It's Narcos, of course it is good
24 November 2018
Nothing to really say, the feels are different in this season. You chear for the good guys all along the series and in the last two episodes you're grieving for every fucking narcos to get caught, because even if some bad guys are really likable, they need to pay for what they have done.

Probably the story was a little bit weaker than the other seasons, but i think it was so because the main events inspired from didn't have enough information so they just milked this cow as long as they could, and they did a good job in the end.

Definitely worth watching, Diego Luna and Michael Peña are some great actors, but in general the acting is just top notch like in the previous seasons.

Script is pretty anonymous and generic.
10 October 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Nothing new under the spotlight. We already know that star wars really died 30 years ago, still i enjoyed this movie. And here's why i did and why it's however still bad.

First of all i was afraid, afraid of not having a good Han Solo performance from Alden. Yet, i think he was pretty good, not Harrison Ford good, but that's more a script issue and now we're getting to that.

So, the script is incredibly bad. It was like watching any other 2000s 007 movie, i felt like watching a Ride Along sequel at some points. It's a pattern, the classic pattern that we've been using for years for avarage money maker movies, but Star Wars(spin off or not) surely doesn't deserve it. Good guys, bad guys, a betrayal from one of the good guys, random people die(i'm not even kidding, Val and that other guy died for no reason, just to set the fact that Tobias had lost everything and he doesn't care about what would happen to him at the end i guess). The finale was lame, soooooo lame and Tobias' and the scars guy death were not a big of a moment, no pthos, i was waiting for 50 minutes for their death because i knew it was gonna happen, same goes for the other deaths.

Useless characters like L3. Why? Was she necessary to the plot? Her death was so contextless, she's a robot for god's sake, why would Lando feel so bad about that, i don't know, people there can fly from planet to planet in 10 minutes but changing a motherboard or having a backup memory for a droid is so hard?

But what saves this movie? The actors i must say, the fact that it's a star wars movie and it's impossible to do something stupid bad with that name or at least something badly received. Good peromances, shout out to Donald Glover and Emilia Clarke, and freaking Warwick Davis...why was he there? Just as an extra basically, they gave him one line guys. Bah, never mind that. Woody Harrelson did a good job, even if his character was so predictable, especially the scene where he talks about being predictable but yeah.

Venom (2018)
6/10
It's gets better after the first part
7 October 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Critics killed this movie. 30/100 on metacritic? No film should deserv this, exspecially this one.

Let's talk about the beginning, it starts pretty bad. We get the landing of the symbiotes on earth and riot just starts to kill random people because yes, every 2000 movie had that scene at the beginning, but for 2018 nah, that was unnecessary.

Aaand then we get Tom, yes, ma man. Cheesy dialogues, they wanted to show us the relationship with his girlfriend but that last something like 5 minutes because then we get the interview with Riz. They basically didn't introduce us that Brock wanted to frame this science guy Drake, we don't even know what drake does actually, but everything happen so fast. In 5 minutes this happen: Brock frame the guy because he randomly finds a confidential email about the dead people of the crash at the beginning on his girlfriend's laptop, he gets fired from tv because drake got the money and he doesn't want people to know his evilness, his girlfriend leave him because she got automatically fired from her job since that email should be confidential.

Do i care about her leaving him? No, why? Because they didn't introduce us their relationship, years of engagement were summond in 2 minutes at the beginning.

Drake starts doing his experiments with the symbiotes, he gets a guy named Isaac as a subject to bond with a simbiot. So, Drake, as every villain, he starts quoting the bible, because isaac is a biblic name. NO, why are you doing this? It's not 2003 HULK, at least you could've made Isaac interrupt him, saying that what is saying is dumb or something like that. It's 2018 guys, blockbusters cannot afford this cheesy shit.

Ok, second part that's where the movie gets better, from a 5 to a 6.5/7 i guess. Still mediocre, but better. But we aren't meeting venom now. So i'm gonna sum up some ridiculous stuff.

Brock is pretty bumbed out about everything and he meets this Doctor that want him to get into Drake's company and collect proves about the experiments on humans with the aliens. He does so, one of the guinea pigs is a friend of him, he tries to free her and she attacks him, actually venom attacks him and he bonds with him. He get the super man powers and he can super jump, he's strong and yatta yatta. He gets home after escaping the place and he meets venom. Drake break down the Doctor that got Brock in and she dies of course because Riz Ahmed is EVIIIIL in this movie. Drake send his men to get Brock and he crashes them because he's got the big V. He starts questioning a little bit everything, but he does seem accepting the reality of an alien inside him, pretty normal, everyday routine.

Venom wants Brock to take Drake's rocket so he can go to his planet and bring other symbiotes in. They first go to Brock's former workplace and he leaves his phone with all the photos of Drake's experiments to his boss. While getting out of there a bunch of swat members is waiting for him, he kills them all, and his ex girlfriend, while searching for him, randomly gets there and she sees everything. She scream once, Brock tells her:"it's not me it's venom" and she's like:"oh yeahh, that makes sense, let's go to the hospital and try to figure everything up, ok?" "Yeah, sure".

They get to the hospital and they tweek with the frequency and venom gets out of brock's body. He leaves, but Drake man get him. Venom escape and get in a dog(they introduced that dog before and now venom is in him, so funny -_-). From the god he passes to Brock ex girlfriend and she willingly takes him, no problema, routine again. They got to free Brock, venom gets in him again and he now decided that he doesn't want to bring other aliens. Drake has a simbiot of his own now, wich is Riot, the one they introduced us at the beginning and he got there with a toddler's body. Riot wants to got to space, venom stops him and Riot dies. Blackout. End of the movie.
