Vivegam (2017)
Only for Ajith fans, not for the general audience
Even if I'm not an Ajith Kumar fan, my expectations were high for Vivegam since it was advertised as a "Hollywood" level action-thriller movie. But after watching the movie, it is was a huge disappointment for me.
The movie starts with a funny note, yes funny, Ajith Kumar after telling his punch dialogue in Tamil Language (to non-Tamil speaking people !), jumped off a bridge (horrible intro for an 'international spy thriller'). There are lot of loopholes in the script. The romance scenes between Ajith Kumar and Kajal didn't work out, zero chemistry between them, Ajith Kumar looked too old for Kajal. Vivek Oberoi's role was interesting in the first scenes but his repetitive hero glorification became cringe worthy at one point. The interval twist was highly predictable : the villain is none other than Vivek Oberoi (meh !). At least the first half of the movie was watchable but then came the draggy second half and the worst was the climax. At the end of the film, Kajal Agarwal starts to sing like Paravai Muniamma in Dhool to motivate Ajith. As expected, Ajith rips off his shirt and reveals his muscular body, and destroys Vivek Oberoi.
Technically, Vivegam has good Music/BGM, good cinematography, some high-voltage action sequences, Ajith did a great work here, has given his heart to the movie. Unfortunately, the direction/screenplay/story of Siva was bad, very bad. To sum up, this movie is all about (too much) glorifying Ajith. This movie can satisfy Ajith fans but not the general audience.
